Our Educational Preschool Programs are based on the philosophy that children learn through play, by exploring, and by manipulating their environment. The goal of our programs is to provide opportunities for children to develop & grow at their own rate. To enhance this experience, our classrooms are set up in learning centers that enable children to explore different areas of development, such as fine motor, socialization, pre-math, pre-reading & listening skills.

The Matt Dishman Early Childhood Education Program Includes our Preschool (3 year olds) and Pre-Kindergarten (4 year olds) classes. These programs run September - May with students typically starting in September. Children must be the proper age by September 1, 2016 to be eligible.

Our program follows a developmental philosophy that children develop and grow at their own rate. To enhance the learning experience, our programs feature learning stations that enable children to explore different areas of development. Occasionally, we have mid-year openings.

For specific information on our preschool program or to register your child, please call Matt Dishman CC at 503-823-3673. The material fee is due at initial registration & will be used to secure your child’s spot for the school year.

Class Format Our daily schedule consists of a curriculum that encourages personal development & social interaction with both structured & informal learning opportunities.

Free Choice Time Learning stations allow children to choose an educational experience providing opportunity for individual exploration and personal expression, while encouraging active learning.

Carpet Time Social and cooperative skills are integrated, shared in a group setting. New information is introduced through stories, songs, and the introduction of themes.Physical Activity Children naturally love to move! Gym time, swimming and group games improve gross motor skill development, cooperative play and increase the ability to listen and follow directions in a group setting.

Creative Class work Art & craft projects lead to an un-derstanding of basic math, science and pre-reading concepts, while incorporating fine motor and cognitive skills.

Open Enrollment begins 9:00am

Meet the instructors!Don Beadling has taught for Portland Parks & Rec for over 15 years. He studied music theory & composition at Portland Community College & performs a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from metal, jazz, acoustic finger-style blues & bluegrass. Teaches Thursday.

Max Brinster is a well educated guitarist, performer, educator, producer, and composer who started his music career in Homer, Alaska at the age of 11. He has an extensive education in jazz and classical music, as well as the blues and more contemporary styles. He currently works giving private lessons, as well as local performances in Portland Oregon. Teaches Wednesday.

Sam Cooper’s expertise is in the folk/rock/pop realm. He has toured internationally as a multi-instrumentalist in other people’s bands, and has toured nationally with his own music. Proficient to expert at guitars, vocals, keyboards, banjo, electric bass, mandolin, violin, and drums. One aspect of his philosophy as a private music teacher is to let the students participate in programming their own curriculum. He finds lessons are much more fun and much more productive when the student has an active role in determining what instruments, styles, and skills they work on. Teaches Mondays and Wednesdays.

Within the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) of 1990, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) provides accommodations to individuals with disabilities/special needs, so that they may receive an equal opportunity to participate in programs offered citywide.

How it Works1. Choose the activity you would like to

participate in, and then the PP&R site where the activity is being offered.

2. Register for the activity. You can do this in person at a PP&R site, or on-line at www.PortlandParks.org. When registering, let the person know that you will need accommodations in order to participate in the activity (online, check the box.)

3. Once registered, please contact Inclusion Services at 503-823-4333. If this is your first accommodation through Inclusion Services you will need to do a phone intake with a staff member. At the end of the phone intake, it will be determined whether an assistant will be needed on the first day of the activity to provide on-site support. Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs.

Important DetailsA general program may be adapted using

auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. Accommodations are made as needed, and can be flexible and creative. Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. Personal care is provided for activities in the pre-school and youth category, up through age 12.

If you have questions about Inclusion Services, please call 503-823-4333 V/TTY. A minimum of 10 business days (Monday-Friday) advance notice is required. The Inclusion Services staff will do their best to accommodate each participant.
