Structure & VarietyWe include a variety of activities to keep young minds and bodies active and challenged. Free choice and relaxation time provides a chance to enjoy low-key activities between more in-depth, structured projects and games. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced. Field trips to natural areas, recreation sites, and cultural centers are fun learning experiences. We create an environment that is structured and supportive, but also fun and flexible.

We spend our days engaged in active, creative, and social activities that involve very little or no screen time.

THE BENEFITS OF PILATES:

“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it’s completely flexible at 60, you are young…the only real guide to your true age lies not in years, but by the degree of natural and normal flexibility enjoyed by your spine throughout life” - Joseph Pilates 1939

Until exercise science caught up with the Pilates exercise principles in the 1980’s, and the surge of interest in Pilates got underway, it was chiefly dancers and elite athletes who kept Joseph Pilate’s work alive.

MDCC instructor, Debora Tramposh, graduated from PSU with a B.S. in Phys. Ed and Dance, and began teaching fitness and dance classes in 1979. “It wasn’t until much later that I discovered Pilates, and I was hooked! It gave me such an inner strength and flexibility that carried over into every aspect of my life. I became certified as a mat Pilates instructor through Balanced Body University in 2008. It’s very rewarding the feedback that I get from people in class about how much Pilates has helped them. I love to share the health!”

Fitness - Pilates Mat age: 14& upThese non-impact exercises work the deep abdominal muscles to help achieve efficient & graceful movement. These precise motions help to strengthen & stretch the body without adding bulk. Improve posture & experience a lowered risk of injury.

The nonprofit Portland Parks Foundation has launched a scholarship fund to make community centers affordable for all children this winter, regardless of financial means.

Make a donation in honor of a friend’s name, and the Portland Parks Foundation will send them an e-greeting card. It’s Portland’s most sustainable holiday gift program: promoting healthy families while conserving resources.

As a token of our appreciation, scholarship fund donors and their honorees receive 30%-off special offers from Columbia Sportswear, Mountain Hardwear, and Icebreaker, for staying warm over the holidays.
