From the CEO....The gallery is absolutely full of wonderful work this month! The West Coast Pastel Society and Blue Line Arts have partnered to exhibit a selection of exquisite and stunning pastels. As well, the Remastered work from Blue Line Artists are exciting depictions of the original masters with a delightful twist. Come select your favorite. I’d like to send a kudos to all the participating high school students and their instructors for submitting work for the largest high school exhibit we’ve ever had to date-102 pieces from the following high schools: Roseville, Oakmont, Granite Bay, Whitney, Rocklin, Colfax, Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, Hamilton and Woodcreek. Take a peek at this incredible exhibit to see these artists’ work before they become world renowned! On 3rd Saturday we’ll congratulate and announce the winners of the High School and Pastel exhibits.

The 6th annual Lottery for the Arts is just around the corner, April 10, 6pm. For those artists who wish to support and participate again in this popular signature event for the region, the deadline to submit work is March 17-don’t delay. We want to showcase your photos in the online gallery. Also, don’t forget to buy your ticket for the lottery they sell out fast...

Have you tried the music series yet? I was delighted to hear the sounds of Grammy winner Paul McCandless and harpist Motoshi Kosoko at the February show. The music was incredible. The next performance with Ricky Berger is on March 28, and if you’d like to become a Patron Member, you’ll receive tickets for two for the next four performances this year, along with receiving exclusive preview benefits to art openings every season. It’s a terrific value to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Julie Hirota

2014 Lottery for the ArtsYou are invited to contribute to the 6th Annual Lottery for the Arts on Thursday, April 10. That’s right, the event has been moved to the spring! Last year we reached audiences and collectors well beyond the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles region.

This year Diana L. Daniels, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Crocker Art Museum jurying the work. We hope to have the event televised on public access. Cash prizes will be awarded for top three artists selected. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity! You’re guaranteed to have one of your pieces valued at $250+ selected and is a 100% donation to Blue Line Arts.

DEADLINE: MARCH 17, 2014

Art You Can Feel As visitors to art galleries and museums, we’ve always had to fight the urge to reach out and touch the artwork we’re admiring, but this exhibit allows for the exact opposite--we’re encouraging artists to create tactile artworks for our visitors to enjoy. Visitors will be able to pick up, touch, and play with your artworks to create a tactile artistic experience.

DEADLINE: MAY 5, 2014

Mid Century MadnessThe SacMod Society and Blue Line Arts will be joining together to present an exhibition of contemporary art inspired by the Mid-Century Modern period. This exhibit will feature 2D pieces only including: paintings, prints, low-relief sculptures and photography. Providing visual contrast to the juried items. Furniture and artifacts from the mid century period will be displayed throughout the Coker Family Gallery. This year’s judges will be Jim Brown and Michelle Gringeri-Brown, publishers of Atomic Ranch Magazine.

Comments from a curator on supporting our communities: The backbone of our art world is the galleries and museums. We need to support them as much as we can so our legacies, inspirations and artistic communications live on. Being an artist, we have it a little easier then an “everyday” person. We can contribute something we have made as opposed to money. Please give to as many arts organizations that will have you, to support their programming, exhibitions and cultural inspirations.

Exciting, innovative and hands on, Warren T. Eich Middle School is emerging as one of our areas leading junior highs. Located in Roseville and catering to 6th through 8th graders, Eich offers a selection of visual and performing arts classes rivaling some high schools. From ballroom dancing to Imprint, Eich’s very own literary magazine, students are exposed to a variety of interdisciplinary classes which encourage creativity, interaction and analysis.

All this is on par with W.T. Eich’s initiative to become the first International Baccalaureate certified middle school in Placer County. The IB Middle Years Programme is designed to challenge students aged 11-16 to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The arts are one of eight designated subject groupings to form well rounded students who are prepared for life in the 21st century.

Although it can take 1-3 years to become an IB World School, the energy is already here. On February 25, Eich hosted a Visual and Performing Arts Showcase, featuring drama monologues, dance performances, musical numbers and art displays from 5 different classes. Their visual art gallery featured elaborate engineering figures, original pieces as well as renditions of masterpieces such as The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Starry Night. With each stage set came a warming and resounding applause followed by yet another wonderful performance. It is this enthusiasm for arts education which truly sets Eich apart, and Blue Line Arts is looking forward to featuring Eich’s VAPA programs in our e-zine over the next few months!
