Due to overwhelming generosity of the consignors in the shop, over 30 handmade items will be available at the charity auction. The Abbey Christmas Open House celebrates its fourth consecutive year this month and has always been an elegant event where friends, family and community come together and kick-start the holiday season. By: Julie Weaver Come enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas with music, an auction, entertainment, prizes, food, hot drinks, wagon rides, Santa, and the tree lighting. Christmas Under the Clock, Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, kicks off the official holiday season in Plain City. The 11th Annual Plain City Christmas Under the Clock will be held at Main Street (Rt 161) and Chillicothe Street in Uptown Plain City. The event is free to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. with the Tree Lighting Ceremony and continue until 9 p.m. with the prize drawing at Plain City Historical Society, 111 W. Main St. The Tree Lighting Ceremony at Bicen- tennial Park (Flatiron) at the clock tower will feature local carolers and choirs, baton twirlers, the Jonathon Alder Band and everyone’s favorite, Santa before the tree is lit up by our Tree Lighting Ambassadors. After the lighting your choices are to enjoy the rest of the music and displays around the uptown, head to the Plain City Auc- tion to bid on Christmas decorations and gift baskets, visit the business open houses to fill up your belly, or to set out to the horse drawn wagon rides to Santa. The perennial favorite grand prize of a $500 VISA Gift Card will be awarded again this year to visitors who complete prize drawing tickets at participating open house locations. The more open houses visited, the more chances to win. Need not be present to win. Plus, get an extra ticket for the prize drawing by bringing non-perishable food items or toiletries to the Plain City Food Pan- try at 156 W. Main Street. The event is brought to the community by the Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO) and the Village of Plain City. Proceeds from the Gift Baskets & More Auction will benefit the Plain City Food Pantry to aid the pantry in stocking its shelves for the holiday season and to Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO), a 501 (c) 3 organization, to continue its charitable efforts to preserve, revital- ize, and promote the historic business district in Uptown Plain City. www.madisoncountyohio.org Everything starts with economic development! Abbey open house a Christmas delight

Christmas under the Clock a timeless treasure

By: Amy Tiefenthaler

The warm smells of peppermint and chocolate fill the space of the old Catholic Church each year as The Abbey Gift Shop on Main Street in West Jefferson hosts their Annual Christmas Open House.

This year’s Christmas Open House will be on Saturday, Nov. 10,

from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Gift Shop is filled with food, drinks,

friends and wonderful holiday

shopping specials.

The parsonage home next door to The Abbey will be open for holiday tours. This gives the community an opportunity to tour the old parsonage home while giving guests ideas on how to decorate their personal mantles and trees for the holiday season with items that can found at The Abbey.

New this year, The Abbey Gift Shop will be hosting a silent charity auction where all the proceeds will be going to the Jefferson Township Fire Department’s Toys for Tots Charity. Due to overwhelming generosity of the consignors in the shop, over 30

handmade items will be available at the charity auction.

The Abbey Christmas Open House celebrates its fourth consecutive year this month and has always been an elegant event where friends, family and community come together and kick-start the holiday season.
