Who’s it for?Luiss Summer University is open to students interested in jump starting their university experience, Luiss bachelor’s or master’s students or students from other Italian Institutions who want to enhance their personal profile by taking courses that interest them, and international students who wish to spend a summer in Rome.

Students will earn 4 CFU course credits.

Luiss students can find out how to enter the credits on their record by consulting the SUN website.

Program DatesThe SUN programs run from mid-June through July, with dates of individual courses posted on the website.

Luiss Summer Univeristiy Courses will be held online.

Course OverviewMade in Italy is synonymous with the finer things in life, from designer apparel, to luxury destinations, to slick objects from eyewear to eye-catching furnishings, to cars, yachts, scooters, hi-tech and cuisine. Students will dive into these luxury industries and their business models, and hear from various people across the luxury industry. The course is designed for future managers, or future entrepreneurs in the field who wish to share their unique vision with the world. We’ll look at how to execute the latest marketing and innovation strategies and how to build and manage a successful luxury business in the digital era.

Main TopicsThis course introduces students to the latest business strategies of luxury niche and global players in industries where creativity, innovation and exclusiveness are key factors to success.We’ll analyze operations and innovation strategies, examine company marketing prowess and the ways Italian companies implement their vision and adapt to stay ahead.

OutcomesBy the end of the course students should be able to:

Course OverviewWhen it comes to running or starting a business, effective marketing makes the difference. This course enables future Marketing Leaders to identify marketing opportunities, select the right tools and methodologies, and evaluate the interaction of different approaches to effectively utilize exceptional marketing prowess to improve a company’s performance.

Main TopicsThe course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of Marketing Management, as it is applied across a specific brand or product to maximize results attained in marketing initiatives.

Learning objectivesThe course aims to:

I Provide students with specific professional skills, knowledge and awareness of applied brand and product management, including the evolution of tools and techniques and their application to maximize brand and product value as part of a Marketing Manager toolkit

Course OverviewStarting from an understanding of the current digital marketing landscape and digital consumer behavior, students will be exposed to the digital marketing toolbox – the set of tools companies might employ to interact effectively with their customers – and ultimately reach their objectives. From here, we will learn how to build a digital marketing plan, starting with strategies and goals, working on real world cases and applying our knowledge in groups.

Main TopicsThe Digital Marketing Course introduces students to the key topics in digital marketing, familiarizing them with core issues surrounding content management: from paid, owned and earned digital platforms, as well as with the pillars of mobile marketing and social media management.

Course OverviewBased on the premise that purchase behavior is largely driven by processes that occur outside consumer’s conscious awareness, students will learn to understand these unconscious processes so as Marketing Managers, can predict consumer behavior with greater accuracy.Students will examine consumer cognitive and emotional responses to marketing actions by employing insights and methods from consumer psychology and neuroscience. The main focus will be on the consumer as an individual, but through a lens of their specific social context and other social variables that can influence consumer behavior.

Main TopicsThe course introduces students the interdisciplinary field of neuromarketing, whose purpose is to reveal information about consumer behavior that traditional marketing techniques cannot provide.

Course OverviewThis course offers a comprehensive introduction to the field of Euro-Mediterranean studies by drawing on a variety of perspectives. Special attention will be given to the role of media, migration, civil society, energy, trade and development across the Mediterranean. The course also provides a learning experience through field visits, allowing students to participate in crisis simulations, and discuss issues impacting civil society organizations, IOs, and politicians. Students will deepen their knowledge through group presentations throughout the course.

Main TopicsAn overview of Mediterranean and Euro-Mediterranean relations, multiculturalism in the Mediterranean basin, the Arab uprisings and conflicts, and economic cooperation in the region.

Learning objectivesBy the end of the course students should:

I have a critical understanding of major political, social, cultural, and economic influences in Euro-Mediterranean relations

Course OverviewThis course introduces students to the analysis of party systems, party competition, and voting behavior in contemporary times through the presentation of recent theories and analysis of empirical findings and through interactive data analysis labs.The course also provides students with networking opportunities, through meetings with leading figures and observers of Italian politics and institutions.

Main TopicsA comparative and longitudinal perspective across European countries through data analysis. The evolution of party systems, party competition and voting behavior in Western Europe over the last decade, with a specific focus on the disruptive changes that have taken place and their significance going forward.

Course OverviewThis program provides an interdisciplinary training for students who aim to develop a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges of the relationship between China and Europe. Students will increase their knowledge about China’s relations with Europe and Italy, their cooperation in the business, industrial and environmental sectors, their distinctive features and historical evolutions, as well as Sino-Italian major business sectors.Combining interdisciplinary and comprehensive training, the course offers a true learning experience for students who wish to know about China and its growing impact on Europe.

Main TopicsThe course will mainly focus on the following themes: diplomacy, international relations, and digital cooperation and examine their effects across a number of business sectors.

1st week: Historical, Political and Economic Relations Topics: The political and economic development of contemporary Asia; Europe and Asia: amidst political challenges and economic opportunities; Economic and financial cooperation between the EU and China: the case of Italy; EU-China environmental Cooperation challenges

Course OverviewCities are economic spaces, generating more than 70% of the world’s GDP, holding over 65% of the world population by 2030. How should cities re-invent themselves to tackle the increasing challenges they face? What are possible solutions for issues arising in cities worldwide – from security to climate change to technology and mobility and even public health in handling a pandemic? The course will cover a number of areas in which city managers play vital roles, from governance to innovation and from international policy to urban storytelling.

Main TopicsStudents will learn through interactive labs and city government officials how to understand and innovate so citizens can create dynamic cities.

Course OverviewThe course introduces students to the field of Sport Management by analyzing the sporting phenomenon from a Management, Marketing, Financial and Legal perspective. Students will experience what it means to be a manager in the sports sector through meetings with companies, corporate speakers, interactive lectures and much more, thanks to the extensive international network of Luiss University. Students will not only develop an understanding of the fundamentals of sports marketing and the sporting phenomenon from a business perspective, but also will receive practical training at one of the Olympic tracks.

Main TopicsStudents will learn to approach Sport Management from an interdisciplinary perspective, from Marketing, Management, Finance and Legal aspects. Students will look at the business of sports as well as legal aspects including Sports Law and learn to conduct both quantitative and qualitative analyses of phenomena generated by the sector.

Course OverviewNow more than ever, the world has been on a steady climb toward globalization, driven geometrically in size by the digital revolution and previously developing countries becoming economic power houses in their own right. To that, the strength of the European Union, international trade pacts and even immigration waves impact each country, organization and populace in different ways. This course will introduce the theories and evidence supporting our collective globalization and relative trade policies to handle it. Keeping a focus on policy analysis, some emphasis will be placed on surveying analytical models, but our main interest is that of applying such models to shed light on contemporary relevant trade policy issues. Finally, while the programme addresses recent debates at the frontier of International Economics, it does so in a way that is accessible to any Bachelor’s student with basic training in economics.

Main TopicsThe first part of the course covers such topics as the gains from trade, the distributive effects of trade, the recent revival of protectionist sentiments, the determinants of attitudes towards immigration.

The second part analyses the impact of various trade policy instruments and the rationale behind international trade agreements. It also discusses the current shift from multilateralism to bilateralism (and regionalism) in the world trade relations.
