The forthcoming EMO 2017 in Hannover is presenting itself not only as a world-wide milestone in production technolo-gy, but also as a mood barometer for the in-topic Industry 4.0.
Evolution instead of revolution: how the current KROMI Tool Management is al-ready changing manufacturing in line with Industry 4.0.
KROMI Managed Inventory (KMI) is tool management in a class of its own: KROMI will be showcasing innovative services for the complete supply of tools at EMO 2017.
BOOSTER Precision Components: how the northern German manufacturer of high-precision impellers saves costs with KROMI Tool Management.
OBD Precision GmbH manufactures high-precision parts. KROMI Tool Management solutions are deployed to significantly reduce the share of costs for tooling.
A comprehensive use of tool data brings many advantages. That‘s reason enough to expand the KROMI/ZOLLER partner-ship through joint project days.
From individual performance to team per-formance: KROMI employees ensure a good atmosphere at this year‘s team relay race organised by the Hamburger Morgen-post.

Production technology meets Industry 4.0:connecting systems for intelligent production
We warmly invite you to visit our stand!
Around 150,000 specialist visitors and over 2,000 exhibitors are expec-ted at EMO 2017 from 18 to 23 Septem-ber. On an area covering more than 180,000 net square metres, the fair will not only be showcasing the latest machines and tools, but also high-lighting topics such as digitalisation and data-driven process automation in line with Industry 4.0.
EMO Hannover 2017 shows practicable
paths and presents workable navigation
aids for the data highway towards the
smart factory of the future. Cloud solu
tions are in: digitalised data in app-
based cloud castles aim to automate pro-
cesses and make them more efficient. As
the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufactu-
ring Engineering and Automation (IPA)
maintains, an intelligent system optimi-
sation that detects faults in interlinked
production processes and shows their
causes and propagation in an automated
manner could, for example, enable a
technically detailed and at the same time
automated analysis of the downtime cau-
ses and fault correlations in a production
line.
“The most important tasks for manufac-
turers and users of machine tools arise
from digitalisation,” as EMO General
Commissioner and VDMA President Carl
Martin Welcker explains. “It is precisely
this topic that is being addressed by EMO
Hannover 2017.” As he sees it, the trade
fair helps to remove hurdles on the path to
digital transformation. He regards Indu-
stry 4.0 as a mindset: the way of thinking
promoted should give employees ideas as
to how they can implement Industry 4.0 in
practice. “The path towards Industry 4.0
will lead nowhere without data from pro-
duction resources and tools,” insists Dr.-
Ing. Götz Marczinski, the Managing Direc-
tor of Cimsource GmbH in Aachen. “The
ability to deliver such data and deal with
them effectively will be essential for futu-
re competitiveness.”

We‘re looking forward once again to demons-
trating our unique understanding of Tool Ma-
nagement to you at the upcoming EMO 2017
in Hannover. Needless to say, everything‘s
completely “Ready for Industry 4.0”. Until
then, with my best wishes for your success,

... everybody‘s talking about Industry 4.0,
or about the 4th industrial revolution, as
it‘s also called. A special feature of it, ho-
wever, is that, unlike the first three revolu-
tions, it‘s manifestly the first time that such
a revolution has been proclaimed even be-
fore it‘s actually come about. Nevertheless,
it‘s still worthwhile grappling with the is-
sues involved so as not to lose sight of the
well-intentioned objective behind it.
According to Wikipedia, Industry 4.0 is a
term that emanates from the Science and In-
dustry Research Union of the German federal
government and a project of the same name
in the high-tech strategy of the German go-
vernment in 2011 to promote the computeri-
sation of manufacturing. With the help of in-
telligent and digitally networked systems,
industrial production is to be interlinked
through modern information and communi-
cation technology. The goal is a largely self-
organised production: people, machines,
plants, logistics and products communicate
and collaborate directly with one another in
the Industry 4.0 environment. Through net-
working, the intention is to facilitate the opti-
misation not only one single production step
but of the entire value-added chain as well.
The network is also to embrace all phases of
the product life cycle – from the product idea,
through development, manufacturing, use
and maintenance, to the final recycling.
So far, so good. We at KROMI have gone a
slightly different path, but it seems no less
successful: we have continually enhanced
our Consulting, Logistics, Controlling and En-
gineering services with the latest develop-
ments on the software side and have adap-
ted them to the needs of our customers. As a
result, for example, we offer not just tools,
but also their 100% digitalisation via our
KWM tool data sheet. Our databases can be
networked to 100% and are also available in
the cloud around the clock on request. Our
data analysis tool – we call it KROMI eControl
– provides you on request with up-to-date
key figures and performance indicators for

Digitalisation as the basis for the 4th industrial revolutionKROMI delivers not just tools, but also the “digital twin” in DIN/ISO-format

KROMI also makes all the data available
in the DIN/ISO 4000/4003 standard for-
While in 1993 only 3% of the global tech-
nological information capacity was digi-
tal, this figure was already over 90% in
2007. Experts estimate that it was first
possible in 2002 to store more informati-
on digitally than in analogue form and
they like to call this specific point in time
the beginning of the “digital age”.
This so-called digitalisation is also the
basis for production within the frame-
work of Industry 4.0. One of the most im-
portant production resources in machi-
ning is undoubtedly the tool itself. With
regard to data transparency and data
continuity, Industry 4.0 therefore de-
pends on the digital image of the actual
tool. This so-called digital twin with all
its relevant data not only helps in the si-
mulation of the machining process or the
visualisation of the supply chain in the
factory, but above all facilitates the con-
sistency of the data within the entire
CAD/CAM process chain. For this reason,

In most companies, the time intervals
during which an evaluation of tool con-
sumption and tool costs is usually car-
ried out lie in the region of weeks or
even months. With KROMI eControl, ho-
wever, the actual withdrawals from the
individual cost centres are determined
directly online and logged in a databa-
se. Up-to-date information is then at the
disposal of the customer for monitoring
tool consumption. As an optional part of
the comprehensive KROMI Managed In-
ventory KMI, the new app “KROMI eCon-
trol mobile” provides the customer with
all key figures about tool consumption
and costs directly to the smartphone or
tablet. Through a secured registration
procedure, the user receives encrypted

individual consumption f igures. Via a
simple menu, individual cost centres
can be selected and the corresponding
consumption f igures can be subse-
quently displayed. Customers who have
given their approval for KROMI to analy-
se the tool costs per part (target data)
can also compare these consumption
data with the actual production volumes
of the machines. In such cases, the real
tool costs per part can be reliably deter-
mined and compared with the target va-

“We at KROMI specialise in machi-ning issues. Our aim is to organi-se the complete supply of tools in a cost-optimising manner. To this end, we have developed models that turn 1,000 tool positions into 500 with-out the work results suffering in the process. We have controlling instruments with which we can re-liably monitor the costs per com-ponent. We possess analysis tools to develop concrete proposals for cost savings. And we have exten-sive experience in the reorgani-sation of purchasing processes. Particularly important is that we are manufacturer-independent, in
contrast to other providers, and that we supply our customers not only with powerful and effective data-base systems but with all the data needed for successful produc-tion as well.”

“Experts estimate that in many firms up to 15% of orders are halted or interrupted due to a lack of tools. Despite high stock levels and the latest warehousing technology, machining tools and related acces-sories are often lying around in a disorganised fashion at different locations. KROMI therefore offers to take over the complete inventories of its customers (buyback) and then provide optimal logistics for every item. “All the tool stocks and tool with-drawals can be seamlessly docu- mented through the KROMI supply systems. With the help of KROMI eControl, the actual consumption levels of the individual cost cen-tres are calculated directly online and stored in a database. Up-to-date information is then available to check tool consumption every 10 minutes. When these data are compared with the actual produc-tion volumes of the machines, the actual tool costs per compo-nent can be reliably calculated and compared with the planning figures. Thanks to the closed-loop
control system and the short ana-lysis times, the online-controlled tool cost monitoring system KCo provides an ideal basis for a conti-nuous improvement process to op-timise the costs per component.”

“KROMI Engineering is concerned with the optimisation of all machi-ning tasks entailed in production. Along with determining a techno-logically and economically optimal process chain, this also includes the optimisation of tool deployment plans and NC programmes as part of work preparation. This is where the KROMI Engineering Process (KEP) comes into effect: the costs of tools are analysed through the NC pro-gramme and the key cost drivers are identified. Specially developed software tools enable a systematic approach, allowing various scena-rios to be compared. The costs per component are then optimised step-by-step through targeted technolo-

E R For a long time, the Brazilian economy
was one of the fastest growing countries
in the world. However, this trend has be-
en declining for three years. In 2015, the
country had to report the worst result in
25 years, with a decline of the gross do-
mestic product by 3.8%. So, automotive
production fell in the last three years
from around 3.1 million to 2.1 million.
The Brazilian subsidiary KROMI Logistica
do Brasil was quite dif ferent. Here,
growth could also be continued during
the crisis. In 2016 the Jenis diz Acosta
team achieved the best result since the
founding of the company in 2009 with a
growth of 41%.
The reasons for this positive development
are manifold. While the companies
showed relatively little cost awareness in
the growth, the recession forced many
production companies to austerity mea-
sures. For this reason, the costs for admi-
nistration and operating equipment were
particularly under scrutiny in this time of
crisis. And particularly in this respect,
KROMI offers a strong added value with its
many rationalisation approaches. Cost-
effective, unique tool management solu-

tions not only provide for signif icantly
simplified purchasing processes, but al-
so help companies reduce inventory and
unnecessary resources. For many new
customers, the KROMI managed invento-
ry concept KMI therefore came just at the
right time.
Another important aspect was the ope-
ning of a third office in Rio Grande do Sul
in the South of Brazil. With its three lo-
cations within the country‘s most impor-
tant production regions, KROMI gua-
rantees its customers a high quality of
delivery. As a result, the KROMI team
was able to lay the basis for the enor-
mous growth in sales over the last two
years at the right time with new supply
contracts.
Such a strong growth of course also re-
quires sufficient and qualified personnel
to ensure a high quality of delivery and
customer satisfaction. In the meantime,
almost 40 employees are dealing with
old and new KROMI customers at the
three locations. Only recently, the team
was streng thened by t wo new col-
leagues, who particularly represent and
promote the KROMI concept: Alessandro
Q. Becker as the new head of the office

The Spanish company Nagamohr S.A. is
specialised in the manufacture of com-
plex precision turned parts for the auto-
motive industry. The plant in Getafe ne-
ar Madrid came about through the relo-
cation of a small production site from
Germany to Spain in 1993. It has since
developed into one of the leading Euro-
pean companies in this segment with
almost 100 employees and an annual
production volume of over 20 million
shafts.
Nagamohr products are distinguished
above all by their high quality. This is a
key prerequisite for maintaining a com-
petitive position at the top to supply the
premium brands in the auto sector.
High-tech production resources, flexibi-
lity in production planning, highly quali-
f ied personnel and competitive prices
even attract export orders from Eastern
Europe and China for the company. With
just under 60 machines, Nagamohr con-
centrates mainly on the production of
large series.
Typical products of Nagamohr include
solid and hollow transmission shafts,
armature shafts for electrical motors,
shafts for power train and distribution
boxes, throttle shaf ts and valves for
gas recirculation systems from 6 up to
38 mm in diameter and 250 mm in
length. These shafts are used in winds-
hield wiper systems, electric window
lif ts, motorised seat adjustments and
sunroofs, power train systems, exhaust
air management systems, and other si-
milar applications.

KROMI Tool Center as “one-stop-shop”Interview with Nagamohr manager Patrick Bosch
.KROMI newsletter: What is your current
state of implementation and what have
you planned for the future?
Bosch: The implementation of the KROMI
Tool Management system at Nagamohr is
fully developed, and the next steps aim at
Mexico. Nagamohr is a Second Tier sup-
plier to the automotive industry. In our
sector one has to be constantly dynamic
and on the move. With this in mind, we‘re
currently building up a further production
site, namely in Mexico. New machines ha-
ve already been installed. Our plan is to be
production-ready starting in the last quar-
ter of 2017. The implementation of a tool
management system from the very outset
will help us ensure an orderly production
start. Initial discussions with KROMI have
already been carried out.
KROMI newsletter: What was Nagamohr ‘s
main reason to introduce Tool Manage-
ment?
Bosch: In the past, the purchase of our
tools was decentralised. Each machine
department or group leader was indivi-
dually responsible for procuring the ne-
cessary tools. This is an efficient organi-
sation as long as a company remains
small. Since our production has regularly
grown, a situation arose in which it beca-
me difficult to maintain an overview of
the tooling requirements. As soon as we
learned about KROMI and acquainted
ourselves with their system, we knew
straight away that this was the ideal so-
lution: a “one-stop shop”, both within
the production hall and for our accoun-
ting department.

BOOSTER Precision Components is one of Germany’s innovation- driven production companies. Founded in 2004 in Schwanewede, Lower Saxony, it now produces more than 10 million compressor wheels and other complex compon-ents for the automotive industry every year.
The fact that a company can be a global
player and manufacture mass-produc-
tion parts Germany is relatively rare gi-
ven the comparatively high wage levels.
But in Schwanewede, northwest of Bre-
men, it‘s a normal part of life. The factory
covering almost 8,500 square metres
has been specifically designed for the
production of complex components, in
particular compressor wheels for tur-
bochargers in large-scale series. At pre-
sent, 350 employees are responsible for
the productive operation of the state-of-
the-art plant and machinery around the
clock and 365 days a year
Alone in the turning machine section, 55
horizontal and vertical lathes are con-
stantly in operation and reliably providing
their services. Arranged into more com-
plex turning cells and equipped with a ro-
bot, they are able to produce up to three
different products at the same time. The
milling shop contains around 80 modern
milling centres, which are also fitted with
a 6-axis robot. Especially for the compres-
sor wheels, a further 15 fully automatic
balancing cells are available to meet and
ensure the high quality standards the cus-
tomers require. A special feature of the
company is that it also possesses 5-axis
tool grinding machines so as to be able to
produce high precision form cutters.
It‘s therefore no surprise that the interest
in the subject of tool management and
the contact with KROMI Logistik AG ini-
tially arose mainly for logistic reasons.
For executive partner Jonas Keune the
specific question was whether he should
expand his own purchasing department
in the wake of the company‘s ongoing
growth, or rely from the outset on a ser-
vice model in a best-in-class partnership.
In particular due to the high technologi-
cal standards of the company‘s in-house
production, a certain degree of scepti-

company‘s employees towards the con-
cept of a “vendor-managed inventory”.
But since the company is generally sub-

ject to great cost pressure, a comparison
was indeed worth making. Important ar-
guments in the decision-making process
were, of course, provided by the merits of
KROMI services like the takeover of the
tool warehouse, the automatic stock ma-
nagement and the adoption of full supply
responsibility.
Within the pilot phase, the electronic
tool catalogue was created and the first
tool dispensers were installed to start
with. For the purposes of an initial cost
comparison, however, there are a num-
ber of factors that play a significant role
in this particular stage of the transition.
For instance, the takeover of the tool in-
ventory by KROMI and the subsequent
repurchase of the tools results in a one-
off extra charge for the client that tempo-
rarily burdens the cost side. In return,
however, the usual “idle inventories” or
obsolete stocks that have been built up
are removed from the warehouse shel-
ves. In addition, the notional personnel
expenses that would normally occur for
maintaining a separate company pur-
chasing department are elements that
should not be ignored in any cost compa-

Employees: Around 350
Sector: Mechanical engineering
Processes: Turning, milling, balancing, tool grinding
Products: Turbine wheels, compressor wheels, prototypes

As was expected, selected time studies
also showed with regard to the optimisa-
tion of machining processes that the pro-
duction experts from BOOSTER already
possess highly sophisticated NC pro-
grammes and production processes.
That‘s no wonder: if it were otherwise,
the costs per part would certainly not be
internationally competitive in the world
market. For Jonas Keune, process opti-
misation within the framework of the
KROMI Engineering Service is not yet the
final priority: “As soon as we‘ve conver-
ted and stabilised all the logistics proces-
ses so that availability and quality of sup-
ply are effectively optimised, we‘ll then
concern ourselves with further savings.
We know, of course, that we‘re already
very well positioned. But when it comes to
engineering, KROMI is a manufacturer-
neutral provider that will definitely be
able to give us further valuable tips.”
Tool Server module replaces KTC control panelNew electronic drawer cabinet becomes standard module for the KROMI Tool Center KTC
the KROMI Tool Center. Although it remai-
ned unchanged on the outside, progress
inside didn‘t stop developing. From the
CRT to the flat screen monitor, from the
keyboard and mouse as input media to the
touch screen, from the PC to the thin net-
work client, the rapid progress in commu-
nication technology has taken place in-
side the respective housing or enclosure
practically unnoticed by the user. On the
occasion of EMO Hannover 2017, KROMI is
now unveiling a new solution as a comple-
te replacement for its classic KTC control
panel. One of the reasons for this is that
almost all KROMI Tool Center dispensing
units now require a drawer cabinet. With
the cabinet designated the Tool Server
Module TSM, including PC, all KTC modu-
les can now be controlled via the tried-
and-tested and effectively proven KROMI
user interface.
With a spiral cabinet and a control panel,
the history of what has probably been the
most successful tool management con-
cept in the machining sector began more
than 20 years ago at the auto supplier Car
Top Systems CTS in Hamburg. Originally
designed primarily as an automatic dis-
penser for indexable inserts, the desire
gradually increased to integrate other
articles into KROMI‘s complete supply sy-
stem. After the KROMI Kanban system
was initially integrated with its standard
drawer cabinets, an electronic drawer ca-
binet was incorporated in 2011 for the first
time in order to adopt large tools into the
supply system as well. Individual, lockab-
le compartments inside a drawer gave
customers access to an extended range of
articles. The control panel, however, re-
mained unchanged up to now and has
therefore become a distinctive feature of
The Tool Server Module will in future replace the control panel in the KROMI Tool Center. The drawer cabinet will therefore become the standard unit. (Photo: KROMI)

Industry 4.0 is more than just a empty phrase for OBD Precision The serial manufacturer for the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and other sectors relies on a high level of automation
OBD Precision GmbH manufactures and dis-
tributes high-precision turning and milling
parts, primarily for the automotive industry
and the mechanical engineering sector. With
a modern machine park and innovative pro-
duction processes, the German company
from Swabia has a leading position in this
market. For its two managing directors Dr.
Ulrich Ahrens and Michael Bölling, the topic
of Industry 4.0 is more than just an empty
phrase. In order to maintain their success in
Germany, they are both counting on a high
degree of automation enriched with modern
information and communication technology.
OBD Precision conducts its manufacturing
with over 150 production machines. With such
facilities, the company offers its customers
flexible options in the production of small-
and large-scale series with highest precision
and quality. Almost all machining processes
interlink seamlessly in such processes. Heat
treatment and coating processes are also part
of the company‘s product and service capabi-
lities. If required, assembly tasks are also
carried out on customer request. The goal is to
achieve the highest quality through precision
for all manufactured products.
OBD Precision sees itself as a partner with ma-
ny years of experience in project management,
production and measurement technology. The
company‘s success is based on its experienced
sales and project engineers along with techni-
cians who support customers in the operatio-
nal implementation of the respective projects.

KROMI newsletter: So how did you arrive
at KROMI?
Bölling: The systems operated by the indivi-
dual tool manufacturers chiefly offer solu-
tions for their own range of products. In con-
trast, we definitely wanted to exploit syner-
gies that occur by combining suppliers, i.e.
one contact person and one monthly invoice
for all the items. In addition, we also consi-
dered it important to reduce warehouse ca-
pacities and, above all, to minimise our own
stocks so as to improve liquidity. In such
respects, KROMI clearly stands out with its
solution in all the relevant test criteria.
KROMI newsletter: Mr. Bölling, how did
you initially come to approach the topic of
tool management, and what was the main
motivation for your company?
Bölling: As far as we are concerned, the intro-
duction of tool management does not just
mean a different kind of tool supply. On the
contrary, it‘s of great importance to us as a
medium-sized company with around 300 em-
ployees to relieve our purchasing depart-
ment, which is not directly involved in value-
adding activities, as far as we possibly can.
And, it‘s also essential that we continue to use
all the suppliers important for us.
”The goal is to reduce the tool cost share below 5%“Interview with Dipl.-Ing. Michael Bölling, Managing Director of OBD Precision GmbH
KROMI newsletter: What is the volume
we‘re talking about?
Bölling: We had a tool turnover of around
7.5 million in 2015. During our implemen-
tation of KROMI Tool Management, we
were able to reduce this figure to around 5
million, whereby sales declines in this
segment also influenced the result. Never-
theless, significant savings were measu-
rable. The goal is now to permanently red-
uce the tooling cost share to below 5%. To
achieve this, however, we‘re still interve-
ning technologically in the manufacturing
processes.

KROMI growth lies well above the market level Continued good business in Germany and success in Brazil and Spain abroad are particularly contributing to growth
In the first nine months of the 2016/2017 fi-
nancial year, KROMI‘s growth course has
been maintained with a positive sales and
earnings development. In line with the strate-
gic objectives, the company has managed to
further expand its customer business and
build upon the good development in Germany
and abroad. Domestic sales rose by 5.0% to
EUR 33,051 thousand and sales outside Ger-
many improved by 8.5 percent to EUR 21,219
thousand.
“With the positive sales growth in and out-
side Germany, we are continuing our profitab-
le growth path. Within Germany, we have be-
en particularly able to increase our sales
through the acquisition of new customers. In
the European countries outside Germany, the
turnaround has continued, not least in Spain.
Outside Europe, our business in Brazil has
shown an exceptionally positive develop-
ment. In Brazil we achieved a sales growth of
60% in the national currency of Brazilian real
– despite what remains a challenging econo-
mic climate,“ reports Jörg Schubert, Chair-
man of the Management Board of KROMI
Logistik. “The results attained over the first
nine months make us optimistic that we can
achieve our operational targets for the
2016/2017 financial year. In order to further
exploit our opportunities for growth in the
future, we have invested in our human resour-
ces and in our organisation during the period
under review. The introduction of SAP was
successfully achieved within a very short time
and further IT measures have been imple-
mented to optimise the digital integration of
customers and suppliers. Over and beyond
these activities, we are progressively orien-
ting our spectrum of products and services
towards the requirements of Industry 4.0 so
as to further optimise the value-added chain
of our customers in our capacity as a data ma-
nager in the production domain.“
KROMI newsletter: What‘s the current si-
tuation and what‘s next?
Bölling: The pilot phase has been com-
pleted, and the task now is to pursue further
implementation. The important thing for us
in the first step was that the new business
processes based on the automatic KTC dis-
pensers and the KeC procurement system
ran smoothly and stably. Of course, we have
already achieved significant savings with
these systems. This can now be extended to
other operating equipment such as grinding
wheels or cooling lubricants. It will, of
course, be interesting in the technological
domain to see the extent of the savings that
can be attained from ongoing processes in
terms of costs per part. Needless to say, we
hope for positive effects in this area as well.
KROMI newsletter: What else was impor-
tant to you when you introduced KROMI
Tool Management?
Bölling: Definitely important for us was to
ensure a high availability of the tools di-
rectly in production at the machine level.
We have very demanding production sta-
tions with expensive machines and a high
degree of automation. Downtimes due to
missing tools are an absolutely no-go. We
also wanted to retain our own experienced
employees as tool managers in a new
sphere of responsibility. To this end, KRO-
MI is now operating its own office within
the plant. In our view, a functioning part-
nership is indispensable in such a close
form of collaboration, and this has already
been effectively achieved. esse ein.

Cumbersome data input by hand? That‘s
no longer necessary in future: all the tool
data made available in the KROMI eCloud
are just a mouse-click away from the ZOL-
LER TMS system. Thanks to the standar-
dised digital data in the KROMI database
system, a separate database can be set
up. A direct data connection is possible
via the open interfaces of the ZOLLER Z.
ONE database. The data are immediately
available and communication with all
CAM systems is directly possible. For ex-
ample, realistic 3D tool models can be
generated and the CAM system can be
supplied with complete tool data in 2D
and 3D along with technical characteri-
stics. Such data are then also available
for simulation systems.
The advantages of integrating these two
system environments are obvious. With
KROMI, users benefit from an optimisation
of the production costs per part through:
• 100% availability, 24/7 delivery service
• manufacturer-independent supply with
tools
• automatic tool dispensing via the KROMI
Tool Center
• monthly collective invoices
• component-related cost control
• extensive consumption statistics
• optimisation of tool use (CIP)
Digital tool data and open interfacesPartnership between KROMI and ZOLLER is being deepened through Joint Project Days
With ZOLLER, users can avoid machine down-
times through:
• automatic tool measurement
• control-friendly data output
• organised tool management and tool
identification
• complete documentation of workflows
with setup sheets
• traceability ensured for follow-on orders
• better work scheduling and documen-
tation
• direct transfer of the tool data to the ma-
chine tool
Those who want to use the comprehensive solutions of the ZOLLER TMS system need digital tool data. With the KROMI eCloud, the data of all tools can be easily imported and used for all subsequent processes in the work scheduling and preparation. (Photo: KROMI)
This creates a stable basis for efficient tool
management: while KROMI supplies exactly
those tools that are really needed for the
production process and takes care of the
input or import of faultless tool data in the
DIN 4000/4003/ISO 13399 format struc-
ture, the ZOLLER systems ensure precisely
measured tools and the consistency of tool
data from the technical drawing through to
the finished component.
Differences and similarities: the graphic from the Joint Project Days presentation clearly shows the potential of the cooperation between the KROMI and ZOLLER systems. (Graphic: KROMI/ZOLLER)

August 30th 2017 was the date and the starting
gun fired at 5:30pm to kick off the team relay
race organised by the Hamburger Morgenpost
newspaper. Around 2,000 teams participate in
this event every year. The 5 km route winds its
way through the beautiful Hamburg city park.
All those taking part were full of sporting ambi-
tion and, more importantly, had a lot of fun
during the run. In the end, it was the overall time
of the group that was recorded. The winner of
the internal KROMI challenge was the team who
gave themselves the title „Running Gag“: they
came out on top with a respectable total time of
2:09 hours. The other teams called „Selbstläu-
fer“ („Running like Clockwork“) and „Slow Mo-
vers“ also reached their goal with a highly repu-
table overall time of 2:23 and 2:44 hours re-
spectively. Everyone on this warm late summer
evening looked forward to a new race in 2018.3 teams comprising 5 KROMI Logistik AG staff members took part in this year’s Hamburger Morgenpost relay race. Team spirit was just as important as individual sporting performance. (Photo: KROMI)

As a result of the company‘s strong grow-
th, the number of employees is also stea-
dily growing. The company already has
more than 150 employees. In Brazil alone,
Jenis diz Acosta, Managing Director of the
local subsidiary KROMI Logistica do Bra-
sil, has expanded his staff to almost 40
employees after the opening of his third
location. Reason enough for the Manage-

Steering group augmentedThe Group Executive Committee is the corporation’s central management body
nagement body of the AG. Last year And-
ré Bartels, as the new head of Back Of-
fice, took over the position of Bernd
Möller, who had left the body. At pre-
sent, seven employees are represented
in this extended steering group. The task
of the committee is to discuss, elaborate
and implement strategic decisions for
the company. The members of the Group
Executive Committee meet at least twice
a year to exchange their respective
views, ideas and experiences and to
discuss the current situation..

Water-jettingInnovation for the customer
Innovation on the customer’s behalf: Catcher Cups from KROMI made of solid carbide. (Photo: KROMI)
As a specialist for carbide tools, KROMI
is also one step ahead in water-jetting.
So-called Catcher Cups are used for the
back-catching of the water jet during ver-
tical and horizontal water-jet cutting and
are mainly produced from solid carbide
metal. They are guided by the cutting
head during the process and enable the
water and the abrasive to be removed
directly in the water-jet cutting process.
The new KROMI design generates up to
25% savings and allows the use of water-
jet technology in large-scale compon-
ents such as those produced in aircraft
construction.
