Leadership Community Advocacy Change Citizenship Action Acceptance Participation Vision Awareness Justice Civility ANNOUNCEMENTS 2012 ACC STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Center for Leadership and Civic Education is now accepting participant applications for the 2012 ACC Student Leadership Conference. This year’s conference will take place in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at the University of North Carolina from Friday, February 17 to Sunday, February 19. The 2012 ACC Leadership Conference is a threeday leadership learning opportunity for students to engage with peers across the Atlantic Coast Conference. Over the course of the conference, students will learn through interactive and dynamic sessions, keynotes, and handson group activities to apply the Social Change Model of Leadership to campus life and personal passions. This year’s conference theme centers on The Ethics of Globalization with a special focus on water. Click here for applications. All applications are due by Monday, November 29 at 11:59pm to Nathan Bunch at [email protected] . RSO SPACE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE The Center for Leadership & Civic Education has space available for new registered student organizations that would like to be housed here. Applications can be picked up and turned in to the Center located in the Dunlap Student Success Building. All applications are due by Friday, November 18 at 5pm. LEARN MORE ABOUT GARNET AND GOLD GOES GREEN The Garnet & Gold Goes Green recycling program provides fans the opportunity to recycle their beverage containers with the intention of decreasing the large amounts of waste and litter surrounding Doak Campbell stadium. G4 volunteers act as the friendly face of recycling to the thousands of fans who attend FSU football games each year. All G4 hours qualify as service hours for the ServScript program. Approximately 20 to 40 volunteers including individuals and organizations are needed for each home game to assist fans. Participants are asked to arrive at the stadium 2.5 hours before the start of the game and stay for a little while after kickoff. Sign up today by emailing [email protected] with your name, contact information, and the dates you'd like to help out. TRAVEL AND SERVE DURING SPRING BREAK 2012 Looking for a new adventure for Spring Break 2012? Florida State Alternative Breaks creates extended experiences for students to impact a community outside of Tallahassee through quality service trips. An alternative break is an opportunity for a diverse group of students to serve others while creating a new bond. Participant Applications are due December 1 and can be found at the Center for Leadership & Civic Education website . ENGLISH SPEAKERS NEEDED TO TUTOR OTHER LANGUAGES If you would like to help newcomers develop their English skills, become a member of a great organization, meet people from around the world, and learn new skills from an accredited non-profit educational organization, then this is the workshop for you. Become a volunteer tutor. This workshop will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 1 to 5pm in the Literacy Classroom on the 3 rd floor of the Collins Main Library at 200 W. Park Avenue. For more information please contact Literacy Volunteers of Leon County at their website or call (850) 606- 2644. This event is eligible for Global Pathways Certificate Sustained Experience. GET INVOLVED WITH FLORIDA STATE CROP! The Florida State CROP (College Reach-Out Program) is looking for mentors who have tutoring experience in math (pre- algebra), science (chemistry/biology), and writing/reading. The mentors will report to one of two schools: East Gadsden High or West Gadsden High. Mentoring will take place between 2 and 5pm. Mentors will also assist students in college prep workshops, which includes helping students fill out college applications. The application can be found on their website . LEARN ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICE PROGRAM The Environmental Service Program is a student-run organization which aims to engage students and community members with the environment around them through education, service, and advocacy. They focus their activities on the Red Hills bio-region surrounding Tallahassee, conducting educational service field trips and hosting speakers on pertinent environmental topics, encouraging sustainable lifestyles that connect humans with the environment. Environmental Service Program takes an active approach, empowering students to take action on important issues they feel strongly about as well as volunteering for causes. Their next meeting will be on Monday, November 21 at 7:30pm in Oglesby Union Room 311E. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE The 2012 Florida International Leadership Conference (FILC) countdown has begun. FILC provides Florida college students an opportunity meet other students interested in global issues and leadership and to strengthen their knowledge about how to lead. Learn more about the conference and how you can attend as a representative of FSU at the Center for Global Engagements website . All applications are due November 28. MUSEUM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR MARKET DAYS The Tallahassee Museum is in need of a number of volunteers to volunteer at the 46th annual Market Days Arts and Crafts festival at the North Florida Fairgrounds on December 3 and 4, 2011. Market Days is the biggest fundraiser for the Tallahassee Museum. Volunteers are needed to survey Market Days guests about their experience at the event and in Tallahassee while visiting if they are from out of town. Each volunteer is required to be mature, punctual and polite. Each volunteer shift will be approximately two hours long. MOELLERSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE Florida State University students can apply for a Moellership through The Center for Leadership and Civic Education. The Moelleship program provides selected students at Florida State University the opportunity to focus 8 – 12 weeks of their summer on full-time service at a non-profit agency. Selected applicants will receive a stipend for their participation in the program. Stipend awards may be up to $4,000, depending upon the location and duration of service. Examples of past projects have included working with people experiencing homelessness in Tallahassee, being a camp counselor for chronically ill children in California, working for a food bank in London, caring for HIV/AIDS patients in Spain, constructing a technology center in Rwanda, designing and constructing a chicken farm at an orphanage in Tanzania, and serving at an orphanage in India. Applications can be found on their website and are due November 28. FSU MARKET DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Market Days is one of the Southeast’s largest arts and crafts shows, featuring the unique, handmade creations of approximately 300 artists and top quality crafts-makers. It also is a major fundraiser for the Tallahassee Museum, the capital city’s oldest museum, promoting conservation of regional history, culture and wildlife for over 50 years. Market Days 2011 will be taking place at the North Florida Fairgrounds on December 3 and 4. More information about the event is available online. Volunteers are needed to sell and collect tickets at the gates on South Monroe, Tram Road, Cox Stadium and Paul Russell road, from 7am until 5pm on Saturday and 9am until 5pm on Sunday. sign up for a shift. CHECK OUT DANCEARTH FSU Dancearth FSU is a new chapter of the non-profit arts organization. This organization is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and conservation using the art of dance. Dancearth FSU, now open to new members, is an inclusive initiative with students performing in the community and inviting audience participation. 100% organic cotton official Dancearth shirts are available for $15 in all sizes and by wearing your Dancearth shirt you can help spread its environmental message. ATTEND 2012 MULTICULTURAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT The Multicultural Leadership Summit (MLS), held on the Florida State University campus, focuses on building a foundation of knowledge that will enhance student success in leadership in the areas of multiculturalism and social justice. To learn more about the history of the Multicultural Leadership Summit, please click here. On January 28, 2012, MLS will provide students with tools to be a leader in a global society. There will be three concurrent sessions corresponding with the following

topics: Ethnic/Racial Identities, Multiple Identities (e.g., sexual orientation, gender, multiethnic identity, disability, etc.), and Leadership and Service. FLORIDA TRAILS NEED YOUR HELP! The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a non-profit organization striving to involve citizens in conservation projects throughout the nation. They are working with the Florida Trail Association (FTA) to maintain the Florida National Scenic Trail that runs throughout the entire state. This hiking trail spans 1400 miles and has been built almost completely by volunteers. Their goal for this fall is to maintain sections of trail that run through the St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge and the Apalachicola National Forest. They would like to extend an invitation to all of you and your family and friends to come out and work on these trails. The two dates they have available for service are Saturday, November 19 and Saturday, December 17; however, they are out on the trail often (including weekdays) so if these dates don't work for you, there are others. INST ON PHILANTHROPY AND VOLUNTARY SERVICE The 2012 Institute on Philanthropy and Voluntary Service at Georgetown University is now accepting applications. This fast-paced, eight-week residential program provides students from around the world with opportunities to gain the edge in today’s competitive job market and graduate school admissions, experience the excitement of Washington first-hand, and dive into a summer of service in the Nation’s Capital. Students will be accepted on a rolling basis until the Final Deadline of March 3, 2011. Students applying by the Early Deadline of December 2, 2011 will be given preference in admissions and scholarship decisions and will receive a 5% discount on their tuition balance. SPEND TIME IN GHANA WITH THE LADYBUG PROJECT The Ladybug Project Inc. and the Bediako YouthAid Foundation will be providing Health Educator Internships as well as Teaching Placements in the Jasika area of Ghana. An area known for its safety and friendliness to foreigners, yet historically rural and poor, Interns will have an opportunity to effect true change.
