LO: Discussing and understanding words in context.

Read yesterday’s text again with prosody (expression to show you understand the meaning of what you read).

Let’s practise our Viktor Vocab skills. Look at the phrase- ‘prize that awaits me'What does it mean? Can you see some words which can help you figure out the meaning. That’s right waits. Now read the whole section to help you figure out the meaning: 'Galloping across the moors, images of my sweetheart fill my mind. Pockets full of gold will surely impress the prize that awaits me. Imagining her innocent face only makes me want her more; she has to be mine.

Your activity

Today, you are going to create a text map to help you continue to learn the poem.

Remember.....Draw pictures of words from the text that are important.Draw pictures that make sense to you and remind you of words.Only write words that are really important. There should be more pictures than words.

Take a look atmy text map onthe next page.

Here is the start of my text map to give you some ideas.

Galloping across the moors, images of my sweetheart fill my mind. Pockets full of gold will surely impress the prize that awaits me. Imagining her innocent face only makes me want her more; she has to be mine.

Outside, the sound of hooves on the cobbled yard

announced his arrival. An impatient tap at the window,

followed by a sweet melody freed me from the monotony

of my life. Inside, peering through the locked shutters, I

caught a glimpse of my hero. His assertive voice lulled me

into a false sense of security; he had to be mine.

Wider Curriculum Day 3

This week you can have a go at a different experiment which explores how to get clean water. However, you must ask your parents/carers first as you will need their help/supervision and permission to use some kitchen equipment.

First you need to pinky promise to tidy everything up after you’ve finished!

Page 16: learning at home! Wednesday

The Vikings had very limited fresh water. You need to think about how you could help them.

The tools we have available, from the wreck and found on the island are:

Can any of these help us? Think about how materials change...

Filter paper or kitchen roll

heat sieve

Saucepan with lid

Bowl

Mixture of water, dirt, sand and twigs or whatever you can find in the house or garden

Page 17: learning at home! Wednesday

How might you separate the mixture with the tools you have to hand? What ideas have you got?Now take a look at how the BBC do it!https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zb9c87hIf you cannot open this link look at the next page

Page 18: learning at home! Wednesday

You need flash player to open the bitesize link.Open the link in chrome

Click on the padlock and select settings

Go to flash. Click on the drop down box and select allow flash.

In your home learning book, plan how you will do the experiment. You can write this as a step by step set of instructions or a series of diagrams. Predict what you think will happen. Look at this example.
