“El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo” Este domingo celebramos la Solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo o Fiesta de Corpus Christi. En la Tradición católica usamos la frase "Cuerpo de Cristo" en tres formas distintas pero interconectadas. El primero es refiriéndose a Jesús mismo, haciendo hin-capié en la humanidad plena del Hijo Encarnado de Dios, que se formó en el vientre de su madre, nació y creció. El mismo que fisicamente tocó al leproso intocable. El que caminó por los pueblos y campos de su tierra natal. El que proclamó la palabra de Dios de una manera humana. El que comió y bebió. Sufrió, fue torturado, asesinado y muerto y enterrado físicamente. El que sin embargo, ya no está muer-to, sino que ha resucitado y glorificado en su cuerpo, ya no está limitado por el tiempo y el espacio como nosotros, y como él estaba en su vida terrenal. Él está vivo y con nosotros y en nosotros. Él es el Señor que reina activamente en su propia creación. El segundo uso de esta frase es referirse a los hombres, mujeres y niños que forman la encarnación de la vida de Jesús en cada genera-ción. Él, el Señor viviente, es la Cabeza de su Cuerpo, la Iglesia. Por el bautismo, cada cristiano tiene la seria vocación de encarnar a Jesús en el lugar, la situación y el tiempo de su propia vida. Con sus vidas deben hacer presente su reino y revelar su presencia. Y lo que es verdad del individuo es aún más vibrantemente verdadero del Cuerpo de Cristianos bajo la dirección activa de Jesús Resucitado. "La Eucaristía hace a la Iglesia, y la Iglesia hace la Eucaristía" (Ecclesia de

Eucharistia, 2003). La Eucaristía es poder para la misión. Mientras comem-os otros alimentos para que se convierta en nosotros, con este alimento que el mismo Jesús nos da, nos convertimos en él porque es él al que estamos recibiendo. Entonces los tres significados se unen. El mismo Jesús del que lee-mos en las historias del evangelio se nos da a sí mismo para que po-damos convertirnos en él y en miembros el uno del otro en la sagrada comunión y misión de su Iglesia. Cuando venimos a celebrar la Eucaristía, llegamos a ser partícipes del espíritu de Cristo. Venimos a compartir su espíritu de compasión, su espíritu de perdón, su espíritu de amor. Al celebrar la Eucaristía, cele-bramos ese espíritu que nos llama a vivir en comunión unos con otros, un espíritu que revela una nueva vida porque nos llama a compartir su vida, su pasión, su muerte y su resurrección; un espíritu que nos llama a hacer una nueva alianza con Cristo. La nueva alianza que estableció al ofrecer su cuerpo y su sangre por nosotros. La nueva alianza que a su vez estamos llamados a establecer entre nosotros como cristianos. La nueva alianza que tiene como man-damiento supremo un amor fraternal mutuo.

“The Body and Blood of Christ”

This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ or the Feast of Corpus Christi. In the Catholic Tradition we use the phrase “Body Of Christ” in three distinct but interconnecting ways.

The first is to refer to Jesus himself, stressing the full humanity of the Incarnate Son of God, who was formed in

his mother's womb, was born and grew. He physically touched the untouchable leper. He walked through the villages and fields of his native land. He spoke God's word in a human way. He ate and drank. He suffered, was tortured, murdered and was dead and bodily buried. He is no longer dead however, but risen and glori-fied in his body, no longer bound by time and space as we are, and he was in his earthly life. He is alive and with us and in us. He is the Lord actively reigning in his own creation. The second use of this phrase is to refer to the men and women and children who form the embodying of the life of Jesus in each and every generation. He, the living Lord, is the Head of his Body the Church. By baptism every Christian has the serious vocation of being the embodying of Jesus in the place, situation and time of their own lived life. Through their human bodies they are to make present his kingdom and reveal his presence. And what is true of the individual is even more vibrantly true of the Body of Christians under the active Headship of the Risen Jesus. Every parish community, or group of Christians, has the on-going duty of being an embodying of Jesus in this particular place and this particular time. It is the uniqueness of each Christian life that is essential in the building up of the Church and the fruitfulness of its mission. But how can we live up to such a calling unless we were constant-ly nourished by Jesus himself? Hence the third use of the phrase “The Body —and Blood— of Christ” to refer to the celebration of the Eucharist at the heart of every Christian community. 'The Eucharist makes the Church, and the Church makes the Eucharist' (Ecclesia de

Eucharistia, 2003.).The Eucharist is power for mission. Whereas other food is eaten so that it becomes us, with this food which Jesus him-self gives us we become him because it is him we are receiving. So all three meanings come together. That same Jesus we read about in the gospel stories gives himself to us so that we might be-come him and members one of another in the holy communion and mission of his Church. When we come to celebrate the Eucharist, we come to be partici-pants of Christ's spirit. We come to share his spirit of compassion, his spirit of forgiveness, his spirit of love. As we celebrate the Eucharist we celebrate that spirit which calls each one of us to live in commun-ion one with another —a spirit that reveals new life because it calls us to share his life, his passion, his death and his resurrection; a spirit that calls us to make a new covenant with Christ. The new covenant that he established as he offered his body and his blood for us. The new covenant that we are in turn called to establish among ourselves as Christians. The new covenant that has as a supreme commandment a fraternal love for one another.

The Eucharist transforms us and provides a center of our being and a driving force that impels us to go out and “be” Christ to a broken world. We are nourished and strengthened in a profound way in order to build up the Body of Christ and carry out Jesus’ command to be his missionary disciples. Ve tu vida Pregunta para los niños: ¿Por qué te agrada recibir la Sagrada Co-munión? Pregunta para los jóvenes: ¿Qué significa para ti que el pan y el vino se convierten en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Jesús durante la liturgia de la Eu-caristía? ¿Qué sentimientos o ideas surgen? Pregunta para los adultos: Al recibir la Sagrada Comunión y escuchar las palabras “El Cuerpo de Cristo... la Sangre de Cristo”, ¿qué pensamientos tienes y qué sentimientos evoca? What in this reading touches your heart? Look into your life Question for children: Why do you like receiving Holy Com-munion? Question for youth: What does it mean for you that the bread and wine becomes Jesus’ Body and Blood during the liturgy of the Eucharist? What feelings or ideas does it surface? Question for adults: When you receive Holy Communion and hear the words” Body of Christ...Blood of Christ” what are some of the thoughts and feelings that you have? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: To celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord, share with your child remembrances of his or her First Commun-ion day. If your child has not yet celebrated the Sacrament, talk about what that day will mean for him or her. Hum a few bars of your favorite hymn about Jesus’ Body and Blood and have the members of your family try to guess the song. Sing together a Eucharist song the family knows. Using plain paper place mats have your family sit together at the dinner table and design a place mat for each person. Deco-rate each place mat with a symbol of the Eucharist. As a family, prepare a meal in which each person helps in the preparation. Talk about what each person contributed. Before eating the meal, say a prayer to thank God for all God’s gifts and to ask God’s blessing on all.

The bishop’s stewardship pastoral letter reminds us that “the glory and the boast of Christian stewards lie in mirroring, however poorly, the stewardship of Jesus Christ, who gave and still gives all he has and is, in order to be faithful to God’s will and carry through to completion his redemptive stewardship of human beings and their world.” The same pastoral letter asks, “And what do Christians bring to the Eucharistic celebration and join there with Jesus’ offering?” The answer: “Their lives as Christian disciples; their person-al vocations and the stewardship they have exercised re-garding them; their individual contributions to the great work of restoring all things in Christ.”

Please Help us Feed The Children The Soup Ministry of the Our Lady of La Salette St. Vincent de Paul Conference is again, partnering with the MUST Ministries Summer Lunch Program by preparing sack lunches for hungry children in Canton and Cherokee County. Every year with your help we are able to provide many lunches throughout the summer. During the school year many children are able to qualify for the reduced or free lunch program. For some of these children this is the only meal they will eat that day. In the summer many of these children would go hungry without the Summer Lunch Program. This year we have been asked to prepare Peanut Butter and Jelly Sand-wiches along with providing juice boxes, single serve bags of chips or snack crackers, and fruit snacks or fruit cups. Every one of us can participate in this very worthy ministry through donations of time, food items or by financial donations. Please place donated food items in the Saint Vincent de Paul tub in the Parish Center. Checks should be made payable to: Our Lady of La Salette SVdP Soup Min-istry. Remember your time to help make sandwiches and prepare bags is also greatly appreciated!

stewardship—sharing God’s gifts We want a few more Ushers — Hospitality Ministers!

Ushers extend hospitality by greeting and welcoming Mass attendees at the Church entrance ways. They assist attendees as needed with finding a seat, are responsible for passing around the collection baskets, and at the end of Mass are responsible for distributing the weekly bulle-tin. In addition, during communion, they assist the eucharistic ministers by pointing out those who cannot proceed through the communion line and therefore need communion brought to them. The goal of the usher is to provide an orderly environment for the community during our celebration of the Mass. Please consider joining the Usher Ministry.
