THE embattled Eastern Cape scholartransport programme continues to failneedy learners in theKougadespite the
millions Bhisho has pumped into it.
Some 240 Lungiso High School learnersfrom the informal settlement Tokyo Sexwalein Jeffreys Bay, depend on one 60-seater busto get them to school in Humansdorp on timein the mornings.Although some learners arrive late at
times, contributing to the already escalatingproblem, it is impossible for the bus driverto complete four trips to and from Hu-mansdorp between 07:00 (the first pick-uptime) and 08:00. It takes approximately 20 to25 minutes to drive from Jeffreys Bay to theschool on the outskirts of Humansdorp.
This results in a vast number of learnersbeing late for school on a daily basis.Of great concern to school principal, Seben-
zile Hoko, is the eleven grade 12 learners whostarts writing their final examination thisMonday.“People like to point fingers at the bus dri-
ver, but he, unlike the learners, is at the pick-up point at 07:00 every morning during theweek,” says Hoko.
According to Hoko, fetching learners anytime before 06:45 is not a possibility.“They live in an informal settlement and
we would be putting their lives at risk if wehad to pick them up earlier,” says Hoko. “Wemake sure that the first trip consists of grade10 to 12 learners.”According to Humansdorp Secondary
School principal, Peter Peterson, their lear-ners do not have a problem with transporta-tion.“We start class early and our learners are
at school before 07:30.”Loyiso Pulumani, the spokesperson for theDepartment of Education, says they only
provide the number of learners in need oftransportation, as well as the routes to betravelled, to the Department of Transport.“It is their responsibility to determine
the pick up times and number of busesneeded.”No comment could be obtained from theDe-
partment of Transport at the time of going toprint on Wednesday afternoon.
. There is currently no government highschool in Jeffreys Bay. The long wait for Jef-freys Bay’ first government high school willsoon be over as construction is in full swingsince the beginning of February 2013.The school is set to be completed in June
next year at a cost of R80 million. The schoolwill cater for both academic and technicalsubjects. It is specifically built between Tokyo Sex-
wale and Ocean View to be central and caterfor all residents of JeffreysBayand surround-ing towns.

UNSUSPECTING electricity consumers fromJeffreys Bay to East Londen, have allegedlybeen scammed out of thousands of Rands bya salesman who is pretending to be acting onbehalf ofEskomselling energy-savingdevices.
After Die Burger reported on Wednesdaylast week that an Adcockvale resident wasscammed out of R20 000, another Adcockvaleresident, as well residents from Jeffreys Baytold the newspaper that they had also fallenvictim to the scamster(s).According to information Die Burger re-
ceived at least nine cases which are being in-vestigated in the Eastern Cape, as well as onein Durban.Die Burger established that the company’s
business address in Durbanwas vacated aftertwoweeks “after the police visited and startedasking questions,” said a business owner op-erating from the same premises. The landlinenumber is connected to an answering ma-chine but at time of going to print no one hasresponded tomessages left byDie Burger’s re-porter.A police official of the Bluff police station
in Durban, who was not allowed to talk themedia officially, confirmed toDie Burger thata fraud case is being investigated against Sus-tainable Energy. The alleged scamster’s modus operandi ap-
pears to be the same in all the incidents re-ported to Die Burger and it seems as if theyare targeting senior citizens. The smooth talking sales man says he is
from a company named The Sustainable En-ergy. He allegedly constantly asked to one ofhis victims, “You think I’m skelm?”The Adcockvale woman (76), who does not
want to be named, described him as a tall, thin, athletic looking Indian man with shorthair and light complexion.“I havenever seen such shiny shoes.Hewas
dressed very smart.“I told him that I was going to phonemy son
and in those few seconds that I had left mylounge, he had managed to convince my hus-band (80) to put in his pin number and R2 000was gone.” The man also asked for R150 incash for an “electrical inspection”.AnotherAdcockvale resident (74), who also
doesn’t want to be named, also believes shehas been scammed out of R20 000.She said the man phoned her and made an
appointment to inspect het electricity con-sumption “on behalf of Eskom”.“When he arrived I did not think twice
about letting him in. He was so professionaland at ease that I believed him,” she said.He gave her a “free” electricity saving de-
vice which she could plug into any electricitysocket. She also had to pay a “transfer fee”of R250 to start receiving prepaid electricity. Then he worked out that she could save even

more money if she bought solar panels whichwould cost t R20 000. She could pay this off inmonthly instalments over four years. He was just as excited as she was when he
told her that with these sales he was on thebrink of winning a holiday in Malaysia forhim and his family. He used his credit card machine and as-
sured the woman that the bankwould honourthe down payment agreement. But she found out that the whole amount
went off at once. She has opened a case offraud with the police. At another house in the same street in Ad-
cockvale, the elderly resident (87) had a luckyescape. The sales man left in a hurry after she
told him she wanted to phone her daughterfor advice. He also introduced himself as arepresentative of The Sustainable Energycompany from Durban and that he is repre-senting Eskom.Eskom’s communication officer in Port
Elizabeth, Nomvuso Bisholo, said that theyare not aware of this campaign. Eskom on itswebsite warns consumers not to simply ac-cept it when people say they are representingEskom.According to police spokespersonW.O.Ger-
da Swart, no cases were registered at the Jef-freys Bay Police station, but reports weremade of two men in their twenties selling thepre-paid electricity saver.

THE skin is the largest organ of the body andprotects the muscles, skeleton and organs, but from time to time, small, ugly protube-rances occur in the form of skin tags andwarts.Skin tags are small growths with a stem
which are usually found on the neck, underthebreasts or in the armpit andoccuronbothmen and women. These are usually non-con-tagious, benignandpainless, but canbeunat-tractive and irritating.Skintags is specially formulated to treat
skin tagson thebody, armsand legs. It shouldnot be used on the face where it may causescarring.A single treatment of Skintags is usually
sufficient in order to remove a single skintag, but in stubborn cases, the treatment canbe used up to four times over a twoweek peri-od.Where there aremultiple, closely situatedskin tags, only two skin tags should be trea-ted at one time, with a one day interval inbetween. Results will usually be seen within10 – 14 days.Warts are hard protuberances with a “cau-
liflower like” appearance caused by the hu-man papilloma virus (HPV) and mainly oc-cur on the hands and feet. As well as beingunsightly, warts have a tendency to recur soit is advisable to treat them as quickly andeffectively as possible. WartFreezer is ahome remedy which safely treats and re-moves warts, using the cryotherapy methodwhich is mostly used by doctors.Cryoliquid is sprayed directly onto the
wart instantly freezing it and aswarts are fedby blood vessels, WartFreezer damages andkills these blood vessels and the wart thendies and drops off. A single treatment is usu-ally sufficient and some redness or blisteringmay occur, which is quite normal. After a pe-riod of 10 – 14 days, the wart will drop off, leaving behind new and healthy skin. Wart-Freezer doesn’t cause unnecessary pain andis therefore “child friendly” from the age of4, aswarts canbe treated at home rather than
in a doctor’s surgery..WartFreezer and Skintags are not suitablefor people who suffer from skin cancer or ifskin tags are larger than 4mm in diameter. If the skin tag’s colour differs from the sur-rounding area skin, or the skin is sensitiveor infected, they should also not be used. Dia-betics, children under 4 years of age andbreastfeeding ladies should also avoid usingthe product.Skintags is available from Dis-Chem,
Clicks, AlphaPharm, Medi-Rite and otherleading pharmacies for around R145.
WIN! WIN! WIN!Two lucky Kouga Express readers can eachwin a pack of Skintags. To enter, visit our website at www.kou-

stoot vir ’n stad se ekonomie is,” sê Soul.In 2013 is altesaam 700 (tydelike én perma-
