ANNUAL PRAYER BREAKFAST RESOUNDING SUCCESS
The Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery #385 hosted its Annual Prayer Breakfast on Sunday,
October 16, 2016 at Club Monarch. Our featured guest was former Major League pitcher Frank DiPino.
The Knights honored Brig. Gen. John A. Russo, who received the Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua
Commandery No. 385 Lifetime Achievement Award, and Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente, who received The Friend of
the Knights Award. Nearly 100 guests were in attendance for the event.
A special thank you is extended to sports radio broadcaster Pete Pagliaro of WKAL 1450AM Mohawk Valley Sports Watch for
leading the DiPino talk. The Knights are grateful, too, to those who donated items for the raffle including former NFL player Tim
Green, former WIBX SportsWatch anchor and current Golden State Warriors Commentator Tim Roye, the Mohawk Valley
DiamondDawgs and Frank DiPino. Furthermore, the Knights extend a special thank you to Brother Knight David Roefaro for the
beautiful flower arrangement for the Memorial Table and to all those who purchased ads in the Program Book. Finally, a special
shout out goes to Lou Papale and Bob Piperata who chaired this wonderful event.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – Lou Parrotta
What a wonderful event the Annual Prayer Breakfast was! It
seems that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves as the
food and fellowship was simply terrific! Thank you to all who
assisted in making the event the great success it was. Can we
count on more members to participate next year?
I have said it before and I will say it again, we are at a
crossroads. We need new members to keep our organization
going. As such, I am pleased to announce that former
Congressman and District Attorney Mike Arcuri has applied
for membership! This is a positive sign! Maybe 2017 will be
our year to grow our organization from its current membership
roster of 70! Please consider reaching out to family, friends,
neighbors, co-workers, fellow parishioners (remember, all
men of all parishes are welcome – many of us are not
members of the same parish), etc. If we don’t grow, we shall
die and then our Commandery will be no more. If you want
the Commandery to close up shop, we are on our way. Don’t
let that happen. Can you find just ONE man to join?
There is information on the Annual Christmas Party within
this newsletter, and I thank Vin Scarafile and Ray Cardinale
for their leadership on this. Please remember, without a PAID
RESERVATION you CANNOT attend this wonderful event.
It is that time again to recruit people to run for office. Please
consider taking on a leadership role. To be blunt, I am tired of
doing most of the work myself. If there is no one willing to
assist in more than name only than things are not going to get
done. You are a member for a reason…so pitch in. This is
YOUR Commandery too!
Pete Pagliaro of WKAL 1450 & MLBer Frank DiPino
Knight's Prayer
"In Thy strength, O' Lord the just man shall exult,
and in Thy salvation he shall rejoiced exceedingly.
Thou hast given him his heart's desire.
We beseech Thee, O' Lord, that every thought, word and
action which we offer in the memory of the sufferings of Thy
Holy Martyr, Saint John the Baptist, may by his intercession
profit us unto salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ, Thy
Son who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, God, world without end."
Amen.
Commandery 385 has a New Web Site! Thanks to the efforts of Brother Knight Dominick Pepe, our
Commandery has entered into the computer age with our very
own web site! Please visit:

The site is constantly updated so please visit it often!!

A NEW OFFICE FOR THE COMMANDERY
**** We had no volunteers – please remember this is
YOUR COMMANDERY and YOUR HELP is
needed. Please step up. The same men are tired of
doing everything all the time. Call John and offer an
hour or two – that is all it should take if enough
people sign up!
Brother Knight Bob Calli, along with his brother William
Calli, Jr., has graciously allowed our Commandery to move
into the suite of offices that were once occupied by our
beloved Brother Knight Thomas Graziano.
Under the direction of John R. Russo, Sr., John A. Russo and
Nicholas Piperata, our Commandery ins in the process of
moving our materials to the Calli, Calli & Cully Law Offices
on Bleecker Street.
While there is no firm date on our opening, I can tell you that
the office will be named in memory of Tom. It will forever be
known as the The Thomas Graziano Memorial Office.
Thank you to Bob & Bill, and especially to John, John and
Nick for taking care of this endeavor. If anyone is able to
spend some time moving some of our items, please contact
John R. Russo Sr. at 733-3804 or 725—0002. Please consider
contacting him to help.
RECRUITMENT LETTER
Brothers, as you know our Commanderies numbers are
shrinking. I mentioned at our last meeting I have put on an
appeal to friends of mine to encourage them to join our
Brotherhood.
In this edition of The Knightly News, I have put an
introduction I wrote to explain what our Commandery is all
about.
Feel free to copy and distribute to men you might think would
be interested in joining our Commandery. I have three
potential men lined up who I hope will soon join us. Who can
you recruit?
For your convenience, I am also enclosing a Membership
Application. Feel free to copy and distribute this also!

The Knights of St. John International is a society of Catholic men organized in the United States in the late 19 th Century by bonding together a number of uniformed, Catholic, semi-military societies under the title “Roman Catholic Union of the Knights of St. John.” The founders of the Knights of St. John had ideals which they desired to spread and foster among Catholic men. They understood the truth of the adage In unity there is strength. Alone, they could do little, but by uniting many groups and people under a leadership, they could accomplish much. Thus was born the idea out of which the Knights of St. John grew and prospered. In applying to the Legislature of New York State for a Charter, they stated their purposes to be:
To create and foster a feeling of Fraternity and Fellowship among the various Commanderies.
To improve their moral mental and social condition.
To aid, assist, and support members and their families in case of want, sickness, and death.
To promote the welfare of the Roman Catholic Church. The society grew rapidly, spreading across the United States and around the world. In 1992, the name again changed to the Knights of St. John International for our various overseas Commanderies. As time has gone on, the Knights of St. John also formed Ladies Auxiliaries and Cadets to make this into a true family organization. The Knights of St. John International has a commitment to assist those in need. In accordance with this mission, Brother Knights frequently donate their time and energy to numerous other organizations throughout the community. The Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery No. 385 holds monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month – with the exception of April, May and June when the meetings are changed to the 2nd Wednesday of the month to accommodate the Golf League at Valley View Golf & Country Club. There are no meetings held in January, February, March, July and August. The meetings begin at 7:00pm and are held generally at St. Anthony-St. Agnes Parish in East Utica. Our monthly meetings foster fraternalism and friendship always. The Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery No. 385 sponsors a Barbecue at the Pavilion on the St. Anthony-St. Agnes Church campus, an Annual Awards ceremony, an Annual Christmas Party, and an Installation of Officers Breakfast among other social events. We schedule fallouts for our members in which we assemble at a local parish and participate in the Mass. At these events, both are military and non-military inspections occur. Scheduled fallouts include Holy Thursday Mass, The Feast of St. John the Baptist Mass, and the Annual Deceased Members Memorial Mass. Others occur as needed. We sponsor and administer the Msgr. Carl J. Denti Foundation, Inc. which assists people with mental and physical disabilities. The Msgr. Carl J. Denti Foundation, Inc. was formed in 1994 to assist those with mental and physical handicaps. Since the start of the Msgr. Denti Foundation we have distributed over $300,000 to organizations such as HealthFriends, Children’s Miracle Network, the Central Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, Upstate Cerebral Palsy, the Jimmy V Foundation, The Special Olympics, CURE for Epilepsy, and recently funded a puppy that will grow into a seeing eye dog for a visually impaired person. The Foundation has also financially assisted many individuals with mental and physical handicaps. It raises money through the use of Memorial cards. Think you might be interested in joining? Contact Lou Parrotta at 315-793-3405 or 315-749-6808 TODAY!
