President Jim Burns is back from the International Convention in Nashville and he said,"How impressive it all was!" He loved the new voting technology they used with 7000 Kiwanians from all over the world participating. He also brought back some lovely pins which he gave out: an apple Kiwanis pin for all educators, a Wild Bill Kiwanis pin for Bill Heuring, and a Mayor's pin for Brian Snedecor.

Thanks, Cas for doing this job.k Kay Moody passed out the Railcats tickets for our July 17th Kiwanis Day.k Nikki Rodriquez said to please help out this weekend with the Pet Parade and Baby Olympics.k Mike Adams announced all of the various activities for this whole 4th of July week.PROGRAM: Nikki introduced Gavin Mariano from the Crisis Center who told us of the 39 years that this wonderful program has helped children everywhere. He began his interest in this organization because he used it for himself when he was 17. He is proof that it works. His pamphlets told of their many free services. One symbol that we were all interested in making better know is the yellow "Save Place" sign seen in this picture on the right. Tell your children about this. They can walk into a place that displays this sign and ask for help, and the hotline will be called. 219 938 7070. A second silent prayer was offered by all later as well. Cards were signed to them from all present. Our sincere sympathy goes out to all who knew and loved George Ginter.GUESTS: Cheryl Herrick, two grandsons of Judy Candiano (there was too much noise for me to catch their names, Judy. . .sorry), Bill Brown and Sylvia and speakers: Kim Eldridge & Len Schmidt.HAPPY BUCKS:( Sam Hicks collected them today.) Her history explained how her need to get help from nearer than Indianapolis led to her work with ASK. Toni told us about About Special Kids as the organization you should call when you learn that your a child or love has a disability or a chronic illness. Toni's flyer tells that these special needs kids are given help, support and access to many resources: insurance options, government programs, community programs, support groups, respite, medical equipment and special education law. PROGRAM: Rosemarie Ehrhardt introduces Susan Mareno who has been an inspiration for their family in dealing with autism. Susan then kept us laughing and tearing up with her personal story about her anguish-ing times with her daughter, Beth. Her trying times for the first five years with a screaming child caused her to seek and create help for herself and others. She thanked our Kay Marcus for her insistence that Beth should learn to play piano, and that helped Beth. Beth has a masters degree and speaks three languages, and sings in seven! She thanked us for our help in financing this trip. We are all so very proud of this lovely ambassador for our countryand for Kiwanis.PEANUTS REPORT: Bill Cope announced that the Moodys will head up the peanut drive this year. He also said that the team who brought in the most money from sales last year was the Linda Buzinec team, with the Kay & Cas Wiseman Team second. For the 5th year in a row, Janet & Charlie Deal made the most personal sales, selling 55 cases.

The important thing here is: the cards and addresses for your previous sales will be ready next week. Get those out and start the contacts for this, our biggest fund-raiser each year. Getting to know her:Rose Hoffmann is a high school business teacher at Lake Central High School in St. John. She is also the Founder and Director of Ambre House, a maternity home for pregnant teens. She is a licensed realtor with Ginter Realty in Hobart. She has one son, John who is a senior at Purdue University in West Lafayette.
