Location

The epicentre (the point on the earth’s surface directly above the Hypocentre) was located about 11.8 miles northeast of Muzaffarabad and 65 miles northeast of Islamabad, the capital city of Pakistan.

The Hypocentre was located 16.2 miles below the surface.

The earthquake occurred on October 8th, 2005 and had a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale.

Causes The earthquake was the direct result of a collision between the

destructive plate boundary of the Indian and the Eurasian plates, the plates that are also responsible for the formation of the Himalayan mountains. There has always been unstable seismic in that area.

Emergency Response Countries, international organizations and non-

governmental organizations offered aid Given through donations, pledges, supplies (food, medical,

tents, blankets) The army and emergency services arrived to
