Judi Rose Right from early childhood I loved drawing and painting. Growing up on a country farm in Dorset meant that I spent a lot of time immersed in nature, which has always been the main influence in my art. After University I found myself working as studio manager in the Art department of London’s largest college of adult education, where I was given the opportunity to combine work with the study of painting and other art modalities. I went on to become a teacher and later a therapist, using my creative skills to enable and empower others. I first came to Albany in 2008 and immediately fell in love with its beautiful wild coastline and the surrounding natural beauty. The granite rocks here remind me of Cornwall and also of Scotland, two places close to my heart. I decided to move here and make it my home. I was very excited to hold my first solo exhibition in Albany in October 2016 where I focused on circular and cyclic patterns in Nature and the form of the mandala. Mainly large abstracts and semi-abstracts, the paintings incorporated the use of mixed media such as texture, collage and layer-on-layer techniques. I find much of my inspiration while out walking in nature and get very excited by the patterns, colours and textures found within the landscape and how I might translate these into my work. I love experimenting, and use a variety of mediums, including watercolour, inks, acrylics, charcoal and pastels. More recently I have been working on a series of seascapes inspired by the stunning local coast, using palette knife and a combination of oils and cold wax.
