PRESENTATION ON
INTODUCTION OF ARTHROPOD
Made by /khaled Moamed Ahmed
Under supervision of / prof.Ahmed Kamal Dyab
NAMING
Arthus is a greek word means joint
Podes = foot
This indicates that the members of this phylum
have joint limbs
GENERAL CHARACTERS OF ARTHROPODA
*segmented , bilaterally symmetrical
* Have exoskeleton for protection
* The body is divided externally , but its cavity is
continuous
*body cavity (haemocele) is filled with
blood(haemolymph)
* Internal organs bath in haemolymph
GENERAL CHARACTERS OF ARTHROPODA
* Circulatory system consists of
_pulsing dorsal tube(heart)
_vessles as aorta
* Digestive tract is divided into 3 part
_fore gut :mouth , pharynx , oesophagus ,
proventriculus, salivary glands
_mid gut : stomach
_hind gut :ileum , colon , rectum , open by anus out
side
GENERAL CHARACTERS OF ARTHROPODA
* Respiratory system is formed of
_2 main branching tracheal tubes reach all parts of
body
_opens to outside by respiratory spiracles
* Male external genitalia (aedegus , paired claspers)
* Female external genitalia(spermatheca)
Note that genital organs con be of taxonomic value
VETERINARY IMPORTANCE OF
ARTHROPODA
1- they may cause diseases
2- they may transmit diseases
3- they may cause announcement
4- for medical uses
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES BY
ARTHROPODA
1- Mechanical
2-Biological
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES BY
ARTHROPODA
1- Mecanical :arthropod is a passive
carrier
*contaminative----non biting insects
* Passive carrier---- by their wet
proboscis
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES BY
ARTHROPODA
2- Biological : in this mode arthropod is obligate
vector forming a part of life cycle of parasite or
pathogen
*this may be
a) propagative
b) Cyclopropagative
c) Cyclodevelopmental
d) transovarian
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES BY
ARTHROPODA
a) propagative
- Multiplication without development
- Occur in bacteria , rickettsia , viurus
- e.g yerisenia pestis
b) Cyclopropagative
-multiplication and development
- In all protozoa
MODE OF TRANSMISSION OF DISEASES BY
ARTHROPODA
c) Cyclodevelopmental
- Development only without multiplication
- In all helminthes
d) Transovarian
- Through the egg of arthropod
- e.g babesia , Dipylidium caninum
METAMORPHOSIS OF ARTHROPODS
1- Complete metamorphosis
2- Incomplete metamorphosis
METAMORPHOSIS OF ARTHROPODS
Incomplete
metamorphosis
Complete
metamorphosis

Similar to the adult but
Smaller in size
