    JUSTIFICATION OF FABRICS/FURNISHINGS

The furnishings and fabrics chosen for the Stark household centered on the idea of easy sophistication with a warm, welcom

key. Since the couple loves to entertain friends and family, the plan was to have plenty of seating in the open floor plan 1st floo

of visitors. While the dining room table only seats 6, 2 additional chairs can be placed on either end to easily accommodate 8

    STUDY MODEL ANALYSIS

I really struggled with this model. Foam board is a difficult material to work with and in hindsight I probably should have chose

Having a sharp blade seems rather crucial and although mine were brand new-they did not perform well. This made items li

and not as clean as I would have liked them. I opted to create the entire first floor and I did this because it was important to m

this open floor plan. Since the living, dining and kitchen areas are in such close proximity; they have a close knit spatial relation

considered. The kitchen is large and I wanted to see how it affected the choice and placement of furnishings. Personally I thin

absolutely absurd in an apartment like this, especially with so little dining space but I cant modify that for obvious reasons.

After completing this model, the furniture plan that I worshiped seemed rather impractical to me. With the two chairs in the

with no real rhyme or reason, there is a fair amount of space wasted. The coffee table and the sofa in front of the window co

After moving some things around, it appeared as though my other furniture layout where the sofas face one another on opp

is actually quite strong. The plant, while placed there with good intention, makes getting to the stairs a li ttle tricky. I placed a s

walk through each circulation pattern and found that the plant was the most obtrusive piece in the design. Go figure. I may c

    chairs in the living room.

The actual size of all the furniture seems to work really well. Everything seems proportional to one another as well as the stru

concerned about the size of the sofas but they work well within the space. They respect the very linear orientation of the 1st f

living room to fall flat. Having the dining room table working opposite of the natural direction of the 1st floor helps to break up t

furnishings to scale was really important for this model because it allowed me to literally walk through the space and unders

relates to one another. In a flat environment such as CAD (well the arrangement we are currently working in) it is easy to marelative to a 3-D environment. Seeing these furnishings pop up in scale has allowed me to figure out ways to advance my de

    gaps in future assignments.

The dominant forms unfortunately have nothing to do with my furniture selections. The kitchen looks huge compared to eve

for the kitchen, I would consider the dining room table to actually be the dominant feature. The height and width as well as th

cause it to stand on its own in the space. The subdominant forms are the two living room chairs and the coffee table.

This model has made me critical of my furniture layout and has caused me to think certain items need revisiting. Prior to adv

accessories, I want to really make sure I nail this so that everything feels very organic and respectful of the structure itself. In t

the minimalist approach is respected here. Pieces selected were all necessary. There isnt anything placed within the environ

space. I think there is just enough to fill the rooms without feeling as if they are overdone.

It was important that the art and accessories chosen for Rob and Brienne be bold, vibrant but not overly distracting. Each piec

In the dining room, the large piece of indigo art is meant to be a conversational element. It adds texture and color in a space m

    JUSTIFYING THE SOLUTION

  • 7/25/2019 INTA212 W6A1 Morrison Jennifer

    76/77

From the very beginning, I was extremely excited about designing his Scandinavian Modern space; particularly because its a

really delve into. I began my process with completing quite a bit of research so that I could identify the characteristics of this

discovered was that Scandinavian Modern is best known for its minimalist approach and often evokes either a black/white

muted palette with pops of color. My intent was to connect both of these palettes to create a space that changes and grow

through the space. The client profile really led me to create an idea of who these people are and what would be important

that they love traveling, music and collecting tokens from their adventures; I wanted the space to showcase their interestinpersonalities. To me, when you walk into a space, it should always feel as though you are being a voyeur and by entering, so

allowing you to look behind their curtain. Every l ight fixture, fabric and piece of furniture was meant to bring visual interest to

every item selected connected to the color palette and design intent in some way so that i t didnt feel out of place.

As the class moved forward, I kept pushing and changing my design which allowed room for new ideas that would push th

end, this is a light bright space with a series of black and white dominant features that are tamed by the soft colors around

art that are conversational and accessories that bring forth texture and height variation. The natural elements that I incorpo

connection to nature and allow the space to feel very organic rather than overdone.

I thought the idea of schematic plans was really fantastic. Pushing through the plans and considering human factors and ho

really played into the final product. My initial floor plan was not very user friendly and would have made my clients displease

people) for sure. I had rooms situated in places that would have made life extremely difficult for them such as the laundry ofeedback from classmates and the instructor really helped my plan to evolve into a space that is practical and functional. Ac

furnishings in the space as I was choosing items was very helpful. There were certain pieces that just did not fit and so they

design. If I hadnt seen that in CAD, I may have created a very costly mistake.
