CONCEPT STATEMENTComfortability, warmth, and classicism will best describe the familiar and calming mood of the Lannister’
Clean-lined, traditional features and decorations that achieve balance, repetition, and harmony will be
throughout the home, creating an environment that is unified and familiar for the older couple. The home’s de
modest furniture containing calming horizontal lines which will balance the strong, vertical lines created
large book collection and the home’s tall, narrow windows. The home’s style will reflect the couple’s love of class
furniture and design, including Hepplewhite-inspired, wooden pieces.
The textiles for the upholstered pieces, and for the many plush cushions and throw pillows, will mainly be in
large-print washable fabrics that will keep the home from appearing outdated. They will also help achieve the ho
and warm, split-complimentary color palette of highly-saturated reddish-browns, and light-value blue
The warmth obtained from the reddish-brown woods of the home will balance the coolness of the blues and
achieve a calming effect of an outdoor environment, as well as helping in reducing eye-strain. The lightness of this reflectiveness of the wooden furniture will reflect and maximize the natural light obtained by the home’s tal
windows, creating a suitable environment for the couple’s reading and visibility needs. The home will be unified
complimentary color scheme, English-inspired wooden furniture, and repetitious horizontal lines, cr
environment that is relaxing, functional and beautiful.

Original Adjusted
In order to increase the visual appeal of the design
of the Lannister’s new home, the hue of the brown
in the original palette would be adjusted towards a
more reddish color and more heavily saturated.
This will also create a more defined split-
complementary scheme on the color wheel,
increasing the energy and warmth of the design.
The amount of the reddish-brown would also beincreased to balance the coolness of the blues and
greens. Both the blues and greens in the color
scheme would be lightened in value in order to
brighten the space and balance the saturation of the
reddish-brown and also allow the reddish-brown to
be the focal points of the design.

JUSTIFICATION
How did you develop your concept for the project? What were your design goals, and how were they achieved? How does you
culture and diversity of the client who will occupy the space?
In developing the concept for this project, I took into account the ages, genders, requests, tastes, and social and economic backg
as well as the existing floor plan of the building. My concept was developed through a circular process of identifying possible solutions, then anal
refinement. The design goals of this project included sufficient lighting, a functional and safe furniture arrangement, and an efficient and pleasing,
design. Factors that were taken into consideration to achieve these goals included the traditional, Hepplewhite tastes of my clients, their African
and their desire to maintain a modest budget. Other requests from the clients were also incorporated into the project’s design, including a custo
and storage space, a separate reading room, and a bathroom on the second floor.
The natural-inspired tones, materials, and finishes implemented in the design reflect the ethnicity of my African-American clients
furniture and accessory pieces, and the strong use of horizontal lines in the design, achieve a modest, classic appeal appropriate and familiar to th
and the retired police officer.
How may have working on your schematic plans led to revising some of your design decisions? Identify how human functions a
relationships determined your design planning.
Utilizing the schematic plans throughout the design process was extremely important for this project. If the plans were not take
achieving the correct proportions for furniture pieces and a functional furniture arrangement would have been very challenging. Revising the sch
allowed for improved choices regarding the wall and ceiling finishes. The knowledge of wall and window placement is essential when choosing fi
order to achieve maximum natural lighting from the windows.
Human functions and spatial relationships determined during the planning of this project include the necessities of opening the dr
custom cabinetry, access to both sides of the Master Bedroom bed, the placement of the chandelier above the dining room table for safety, and
lighting in the Living Room for reading needs.
