In a single night, 564,708 peop le experi ence homelessness. This c an me an anything from sleeping outside, in an emer gen cy shelter or stahousing progra m. Emer gency shelters, while a resource for the homeless populatio n, are ofte n limited to a numbe r of beds. Ea ch night, turn hundreds o f peop le away. They are also only single night solutions which do not a d dress the pro blem of homelessness. Transitional hthose in need and generally provides tem pora ry housing for the homeless populatio n. It also acts as a resource for the e mploye d homelessinsufficient wages who are having trouble affording long-ter m housing. Outside of generalized housing needs, transitional housing also assifleeing an abusive relationship and the homeless population suffering from mental illness or substance abuse issues. It is a short term solution transitioning residents into perman ent, afford able housing. The duration of time an in dividual stays in transitional housing c an vary from ayears.
Around t he c ount ry, there a re a mul titude of resources av ailabl e for those that require trans itional housing . The Committ ee to Aid Abused which is located in Reno, Neva d a, has a case manager that helps with goal planning for women who need to find employment or want They also run support groups that are offered in both English and Spanish. Additionally, they have a program that provides referrals for thabuse programs. As the pop ulat ion of children co ntinue to grow in transitional housing, CAAW is also looking to a d d childrens support grc ate to their progra m. They h ave partn ered wi th Noahs Animal House to build an animal shelter on site. The shelter will provide a place as well as allow housing for their famil y pets while living in transitional housing. Florence House, which is located in Portland, Maine, offers and resources for those in need. While Florence house primarily provides temporar y housing for the female homeless population ; their sebeyo nd tha t. One of their largest programs is the Maine Hunger initiative which expands to all of Cumber land c ounty. This progra m helpfoo d needs, offset supply shortages as well as deve lop long term solutions to hunger. The Clinic al Intervention pro gram is an additional pdress the nee ds of the homeless populat ion suffering from ment al illness or substance abuse problems. This progra m link s individuals wit hPeer Naviga tor who can identi fy the indi viduals goals an d link them to treat ment programs th at will directly a d dress these issues. Florence House tries to reaobvious issue of homelessness and a d dress the core issues within each indivi dual so they c an eventual ly find their way t o perm anen t hprograms which are ope rat ed under the YWCA around the cou ntry offer initiatives with a variety of timelines which address case by case

There is also a Cortez Family Center for homeless families which is a 90-120 d ay pro gram to help secure a hfor the famil y while individuals in the ho usehold work. The common deno min ator in all these housing programs is that transitional housingstepping stone where the homeless population c an take roots, regain a foo ting and move on to a happy and successful future.
The goals and ambitions of these organizations vary depending on their location and population served. One of the major differences beand the YWCA is that Florence House exclusively serves the f emale homeless popul atio n wher e as the YWCA serves both men a nd womelarge percentage of wo men but strives to bring communit y awareness to the fa ct t hat men also nee d help as well as members of the LGBTQof Florence house are relatively simple: get young woman off the street and into a safe environment, p rovide a safe haven for women flesituations and provide accessible housing for short and l ong te rm solutions. CAAW is a little more specialized wit h theihelp wom en leave their abusive situation and are working towards ending do mestic viole nce. The design at Liberty Gardens, located in Boston, Massachusetts centers entirely on community and individhome is welcoming from the moment you pull up to the curb. The interior acts as a continuation of the Feexterior with classic architecture and understated details. The interior opens to period dcor with warm gl
woods, muted tones on the walls and period furniture and accessories. Federal architectural details are nothroughout the building in the doors and windows from the framework and keystone caps to the gridded dwindows and the brass door knockers and delicately carved details. The entry way includes a seating area, adesk and incorporates some of the traditional elements of the Federal style. A large gilt mirror, simple portrbeautiful chandelier enhance the entrance feeling. Muted blues and greens bring both a sense of calmnessmodernity while being a tribute to the subdued colors of the past. Minimalist style artwork adds more colspace while providing a sense of home. Unique textiles bring texture and movement to the space. Fabrics ccommercial quality and rated for heavy traffic situations yet are inviting and comfortable. Soft cushy fabricsthroughout to give a sense of home and warmth. Furnishings are clean and modern so that each space feeuncluttered. Flexible materials such as luxury vinyl tile and custom wood cabinetry are used for minimal maand long term wear.. While the traditional elements of the Federal style are respected; certain elements femodern lines to suit budgetary requirements as well as present day needs. The fusion of styles allows the saccessible to those in need of transitional housing. The unique mixture of modern and historical elements each of the tenants living in Liberty Gardens Transitional Home. This helps the women and children create identities and it gives them a launching ground for success. Liberty Gardens Transitional Home is a beacon otransformation. Life is treasured at Liberty Gardens.
