Construction of Latrines Units in Bersive 1 Camp in Zakho District

1. Introduction/Background

Caritas Czech Republic (CCR) is working on the construction of latrines blocks for IDPs families living in Bersive 1 camp in Zakho District. The service includes the construction of latrines blocks and the construction of septic tanks. In addition to the installation of sewer lines and network in the camp. Furthermore, CCR aims to support vulnerable families in Bersive 1 camp by providing the opportunity to participate in the construction activities in the camp through Cash for Work methodology. CCR will select workers and recommend to the contractor.Cash for Workers’ incentives will be paid directly by CCR.

2. Scope of Service:

The contractor will build and install 800 latrines (400 units of 2 latrines) (676 of latrines will be built by the contractor and 124 latrines are available at the camp warehouse for the contractor to install and connet) in Brsive 1 camp in Zakho District as per of the following BOQ:

1.1 Excavation works: excavation in all types of soils (hard and soft) and in all types of surface (asphalt, concrete, etc.) of (W) Width 0.3m and (D) Depth 0.4m, by using machine such as excavator, cutter machine, jackhammer, air compressor and using axes and shovels for hand excavation in narrow areas; according to the specification details and drawings. The service includes backfilling the trenches after the installation of the pipes- using clean and soft excavated soil- and compact the soil after backfilling to assure that the surface of the walk paths is back to its original status. The service also includes removing all rubble outside of the camp border site and in a place that the municipality approves. Approved dumping sites will be appointed

by the site engineer after consultation with municipality of Zakho.

2 Latrines structure Pre-Fab :

2.1

Supply and install latrines units (1 unit comprises 2 latrine); dimensions of the unit: 2 x (1m x 1m).Latrines shall be made by sandwich panel; thickness = 5 cm, height of the units: 2.2 m. with steel frame made by square pipe (2*2) inch 2mm; the frame's angles should be made of steel' dimensions: (3 x 3) inch; thickness: 3mm.In the bottom steel plate (3 mm thickness) for ground flooring installed using framed plates of steel 2 mm. 2 ceramic eastern latrine (squatting latrine pan) one per per individual latrine good quality. The ground flooring plate will be carried on steel pipes 8 x 4 cm.The service contains installation and welding of cross steel bar carrying the roof for reinforcement, the reinforcement is made to enable the roof of carrying the water tank on top.The price includes installing 2 PVC doors (80 x 200) cm with locks inside, in addition to internal window (30 x 30) cm provided with glass 4mm. the window should be openable.The service also includes all electrical requirement for 1 lamp and 1 switch.

3 Septic Tank/ Cesspit

3.1 Supply and installation all materials machine to excavation of cesspit (septic tank); excavation in all types of soils (hard and soft) and in all types of surface (asphalt, concrete, etc.) ,Width (W) 3.8 M, length (L) 2.8M and (D) Depth 2.5 M. excavation should be made using machine such as excavator, cutter machine, jackhammer, etc. and removing all rubbles and remaining materials outside to municipality border, rubbles must be dumped in

approved site by municipality. During excavation, the contractor should be using warning tape (around excavation sites). The contractor is responsible for relocating any object (caravans in the camp) by the crane to another place (including the electricity wires reinstallation) under the supervision of the supervisor engineer.

3.2

Supply and installation of materials and building of a concrete block walls as specified below.Specification of the wall that will be built by concrete blocks for each septic tank (cesspit): length 10 m, thickness: 40 cm and height 2.5 m.After building the walls, the service includes cement plastering for internal faces of the walls (of the septic tank) using sand and cement 1:3 .and the work according to the instructions of the supervisor engineer.

4 Water tank

4.1

Supply and installation Overhead tank capacity 500 Liters, the design of the tank should be cubic. The tank is made of steel plate; thickness: 1 mm. The tank should be equipped with floating valve and all required fittings. the tank should be fixed on top of the latrines units by welding on roof of latrines according to attached drawing design and instruction of supervision engineer

4.2

Installation of overhead water tanks 500 liters. The tanks are available in the warehouse and the service includes the relocation of the tanks from the warehouse, the installation on top of the latrines units. In addition, the connection to the water main pipes.

5 Installation of prefabricated Latrines (available in the warehouse)

5.1Installation of prefabricated Latrines that are available in the warehouse using crane to allocate them to their locations. This service includes only the relocation.

Pipe connections: Provide all required machines, materials, manpower, etc. for installing and connecting the pipes as per of the following items. The work includes supplying all required fittings such as (elbows (45, 90), Tees, reducer, coupler, etc.) and according to the instruction of site Eng.

4" PVC sewer pipe. The pipe will be installed between the latrines units and the main sewer pipe. The Length of each connection will be 5 M between the latrines and the main sewer pipe (connection should be made with gully trap 4" PVC to the existing main manhole) the work includes supplying all required fittings

6" PVC sewer pipe. The pipe will be installed connecting the latrines units with the septic tank (cesspit). The length of each connection will be 100 M connecting all manholes of the latrines with the septic tank. The work includes supplying all required fittings

1" plastic PVC water pipe. The pipe will be installed connecting the main water line in the camp with the head water tank. The length of each connection is 100 M connecting the water tanks with the main water lines in the camp. the service includes supplying all required fittings.

6.41/2" plastic PVC water pipe. The pipe will be installed connecting the water tank with the water points inside the latrines units. Each unit needs 4.5 M. the service includes supplying all required fittings.

6.5Water tap (BUTTERFLY HANDLE BALL VALVE) 1/2" . The tap will be connected to the 1/2" pipe outside the latrines. The work includes supplying all required fittings.

6.6Gully trap 4" PVC (siphon). The siphon will connect the latrine to the 4" PVC pipe. The work includes supplying all required fittings.

6.7Plastic Manhole 30 x 30cm. The manhole will connect the 4" PVC pipe coming from the latrines with the 6" PVC main swrer pipe. The work includes supplying all required fittings.

6.8

Supply and install 1" ball valve. The ball valve will be installed on the 1" PVC pipe at the connection point with the main water line. The valve should be covered to avoid damage and make is accessible for any future maintenance. The work includes supplying all required fittings.

6.9

Supply and install 1/2" ball valve. The ball valve will be installed on the 1/2" PVC pipe inside the latrines units’ connections (before and after the water tank connections and the water tap) for any future maintenance. The work includes supplying all required fittings.

3. Duration: The Contractor shall complete and deliver all the works referred to in this document within 90 calendar days starting from the date of signing the contract.

4. Scope of Work: The contractor will carry out the construction and installation work in Bersive 1 camp in Zakho District.

5. Cash for Work:The contractor must involve the selected Cash for Work workers sho are selected and recommended by CCR. Each worker will work for 20 working days (1 month) and their attendance will be managed by CCR which will be responsible for the direct payment to them after the end of their working period. The contractor is requested to consider the involvement of Cash for Work workers schedule in the work plan. The following table shows the number of workers and their scope of work:

The contractor is expected to consider the availability of workers as per of the abovementioned table during the budgeting of the project as the workers’ partipation cost will be covered directly by CCR.Each worker will work for 20 days (1 month considering 2 days weekends per week).

6. Terms and procedures during implementation and Handover:

A. Site Handover: Upon signing the contract, the contractor shall be aware of all the work sites, including the infrastructure (water network, sewage network, pre-paved road…). The contractor shall maintain the infrastructure and restore the situation to its first. The contractor must carry out the repair of any damage to the infrastructure that can happen during the implementation of the project under the supervision of CCR’s field officer and repair the damage successfully. If the contractor fails in performing required maintenance, CCR reserves the right of applying a fine equal to 3% of the total value of the contract.

B. Excavation Works: This line includes to all excavation works either done by excavator or manual for all ground soil types “loose or rocky” as per the dimensions mentioned on the drawings and the plans.

C. Reinforcement concrete C20:

The contractor should cast reinforced concrete for the roofs of the septic tanks. The concrete should have the specification of C20 quality.

Contractor should be precise during the installation of the frames for casting concrete and the contractor should make sure that the concrete surfaces are levelled well. Contractor should spry water onto the newly casted concrete regularly and contractor will carry full responsibility of re-casting the concrete in case of negative tests results.

D. Construction works:

Brick walls Building with solid (none hollowed) bricks as per the drawings and plans attached. Bricks have to be at least 20 days old, bricks have to be put together and fixed technically and required as per the supervising engineer.

E. Plastering: The walls of the tank should be plastered internally using cement 1:3 and the contractor should spry water at least two times per day after plastering to ensure the quality of the plastering process. The plastering should be fine and smooth and free of any cracks. The measurement of plastering will be per square meter.

F. Installation works and accessories: Contractor shall undertake the installation and delivery of all accessories within the blocks in accordance with the assessment and guidance of the supervising engineer as required technically.

G. Landfill and settlement works:

The contractor shall return the situation to what its first in accordance with the instructions of the supervising engineer.

H. Finishes - These works include all that the contractor is required to including scraping and taking away

the remnants of the drilling and constructions, levelling and compacting with all the necessary. Contractor should take the remnants away to the approved sites by municipality.

- Handover of the work site. Testing the sewer line

Delay fines: The delay fines are calculated at a rate of 2 per thousand of the cost of the entire contract for each unjustified delay day. The delay period can be justified if the delay is due to compelling circumstances out of the contractor's and management's control. This is to be applied when the reasons for the delay are stated in a written letter signed by the contractor and approved with CCR’s field officer.

Other Terms:

The Organization has the right to increase or decrease the contractual quantities of the works specified in the TOR and BOQ under the framework of a contract amendment if the organization sees this in accordance with the contract prices, without any increase. And the contractor is not entitled to claim any increase in prices.

Note: All terms of the TOR are contractual and the contractor must comply with them once the offer and the contract are signed, the organization is not responsible for changes in prices of materials (diesel, cement, iron, all components of the project) during the implementation period.

The contractor shall submit a workplan showing the sequence of time of work for each line with its overlaps, indicating the quantities to be implemented during the period. And the percentage of completion

The work plan will be evaluated as per of the following elements:1. Implementation period.2. Percentage of the completion (VS time).3. Logical sequence of the works.

4. Material Quality: Contractor should commit with the following points:

- The sand used shall be hard, dirt and substances free, and with a suitable grading the source is to be mentioned and approved by the supervision body.

- The rebar is Wrought iron made from the best quality available in the market.- Provide a sample of all the raw materials will be used in the project and that are mentioned

in the drawings and the conditions book.- Provide the required materials for the project including diesel quality and quantity and

testing it before starting the works.

5. Machines:The contractor should ensure that required machineries are available for various works (excavator, hammer, dumping truck…etc.)

6. Safety equipment:The contractor should commit to provide the following safety equipment in the construction sites: first aid kits, safety helmets and shoes, caution signs and traffic signs if necessary.
