What kind of system and which approach solves my multichannel publishing challenge? Which
approach fulfils the requirements to get my message across and to communicate my products
to the intended target group? What kind of system optimises my processes and provides the
long-term flexibility, which today is required?
These are key questions many companies address when they consider their options to
approach their customers in today’s Web 3.0. New methods of communication have to be
implemented and Publishing 3.0 is the answer to meet all requirements.
In today’s paradigm shift from Publishing 2.0 to Publishing 3.0, companies should set the
right course at an early stage.
Information and contents have to be up-to-the-minute and enable multiple, effective and
consistent use for various channels.
This is required by increasingly shorter product lifecycles, new trends im Web 3.0, statutory
regulations, common sense and customers in increasingly global markets who are becoming
more and more demanding – not only in the B2C sector.
Minimising process times, increasing publishing competencies and reducing costs at the same time are no longer in contradiction to a PIM system.
Product Information Management
-Product information has a direct impact on improving product quality-A correct and consistent product description is always part of the product.
In today’s global economies, quality and competence in product communication are extremely important to be suc-
cessful and to stand out from global competition and discounters. Extra cost for brand-name products compared to
cheap merchandise, unique features and product qualities can be optimally argued for and justified by comprehensive
product information.
Stand out from the crowd of providers, as the target groups have become increasingly more demanding. Your custo-
mers inform themselves through a wide range of channels and expect to be provided with the same comprehensive
facts everywhere.
-Up-to-date and straight forward product communication-To appeal to customers and to secure market shares in a fast moving, competitive world of international trade,
management and organization is a great challenge for companies whatever their size. Even though on the one hand,
communication and information technologies create transparency, they also create a higher level of complexity on
the other.
There is still a wide range of eBusiness standards applied to the exchange of information, and only too often existing
IT structures are not suitable to effectively manage and easily exchange all product information.
However, central product information is the key requirement for making consistent, up-to-date and multilingual
material available in various publication channels. Hence, underlying Product Information Management (PIM) as part
of the corporate strategy is a basic requirement for targeted operating and communicating at international level.
Therefore, a PIM system is by definition the right choice.
-More communication at reduced costs-The sustainable and effective acceleration of all eCommerce and multichannel publishing processes, accompanied by a
simultaneous reduction of cost and effort, is only made possible by a PIM system.
Management and publishing processes without PIM system do not only cost a lot of time and effort, they are also
highly vulnerable to errors. Different market portfolios in various language versions hugely increase effort and sour-
ces of error. Apart from that, it is mandatory that national and sometimes also regional legal requirements as well as
copyrights and other intellectual property protection - in particular in respect of product liability - are met. Errors in

Less communication is probably one strategy to save costs - however, whether this, in view of today’s competition, is

The infuniq® PIM-Suite
- infuniq®pure -infuniq®pure optimises processes and provides the long-term flexibility, which to-
day is required. The basis system infuniq®pure provides you with all options to pool
a wide range of product information as well as master data, catalogue data, price
lists and files such as PDF, technical drawings, product images or videos in a single
information system in a media neutral manner and to manage these effectively.
-Process optimised workflows and permanent data availability-Based on this central data source, not only all aspects of data management
processes are significantly simplified, but the subsequent publishing workflows
are structured and optimised. Whilst some data can already be updated within the
workflow, other data can already be published. If any product information contains
errors, it can be corrected simultaneously in all publications in a minimum of time.
This saves time, protects against unwanted costs and effectively supports compli-
ance aspects.
-Platform-independent and open for integration-infuniq®pure is platform-independent and browser-based and can be operated
independently of a location via modern web browser. It runs as native Java applica-
tion on PC, Mac and Linux, and supports any relational database.
The PIM system is installed with a MySQL database as standard.
infuniq®pure works as integrator of distributed data sources, amalgamates impor-
tant product information and provides efficient options to refine information. Based
on bi-directional communication of infuniq®pure with surrounding systems it is
possible to carry out updates and corrections in all areas without losing data.
The open interface architecture enables direct bi-directional communication bet-
ween infuniq®pure and the professional DTP tool Adobe InDesign®, any Enterprise
Content Management systems such as OpenText or FirstSpirit , Enterprise Resource
Management systems, Translation Memory systems or Digital Asset Management
systems such as Celum.
-Intelligent functions to make work easier-The integrated table configurator enables the preparation of even complicated pivot
tables for a later edition directly in infuniq®pure.
This does not require any interconnected, proprietary template generators for the
production of DTP documents. This in turn enables the simple creation of templates
without restriction and time consuming programming. Extensive search functions
guarantee the identification of information and the location of datasets and con-
nections. Hence, all information will be transparent at any time.
By connecting your enterprise resource for example, you can significantly optimise
the immense effort of creating a new article in an ERP system by infuniq®pure.
The simplified management of a shadow range and long-tail products in a PIM
system is particularly efficient for retailers. Inheritance functionalities, duplicate

infuniq®print for the print channel
- infuniq®print -On the one hand, infuniq®print consists of various function expansions for
infuniq®pure and of the plug-in for InDesign® on the other.
Function expansions enable to define product compilations directly in the PIM
system, which then serve as data source for catalogue production. Page and other
templates created in Adobe InDesign® can be stored in the PIM system. In addition,
an interface for has been designed for the priint:comet InDesign® plug-in used to
enable a bi-directional connection to the PIM system. The Adobe InDesign® plug-in
priint:comet of our long-term partner Werk II is the first choice for data based
publishing with Adobe InDesign®.
-Bi-directional connection to Adobe InDesign®-The combination of infuniq®pure and infuniq®print creates new options. Thanks to
the bi-directional connection to Adobe InDesign® , you are able to store and retrie-
ve layout changes and any templates you prepared in the central im PIM system at
any time in order to achieve central data storage also for templates.
If required, product information can also be changed directly in Adobe InDesign®
(via SOAP). The product information editing function can of course be deactivated,
for example if the person responsible for DTP is not permitted to make changes to
product information.
-Creative and automated print products-The professional DTP program Adobe InDesign® provides you with all creative
options you need to produce your product catalogue or your brochure, applying
your corporate design, in an expert manner.
In contrast to proprietary template generators, this also has the advantage that
you can easily change any designs or simply create templates without any program-
ming effort and scripting.
You can create PIM-supported print products with focus on design, design sequen-
tial and semi-automated brochures and catalogues, and generate fully-automated
catalogues, spare parts lists or price lists.
There is no need to confine yourself to individual application purposes when choo-
sing a system - everything is possible and there is no limit to your creativity.
-Creating a catalogue in a fraction of the time normally required-Creating a catalogue starts with gathering data. Ideally, departments would provide
the technical editor with new or updated information. However, practice shows a
different reality.
Either existing catalogues are time and again checked whether they are still up
to date or they are adjusted on the basis of laboriously organised information or,
equally laborious, the editor receives various Excel lists, drawings, images, price
information, marketing texts and more from different departments and in different
formats. Both methods are extremely vulnerable to errors and require a lot of time
and effort.
Product information errors are often carried forward over several print publica-
tions, and there are many time consuming media breaks. Work on a catalogue can
only begin once all information has been gathered, followed by correction loops,
acceptances, translations, editing, checks. At worst, information is outdated by the
time a catalogue has been produced - or the competition has caught up with you.
This process not only requires huge resources and time, its error rate is also high.
And you have to start all over again if a new catalogue is required.
Avoid this unnecessary waste of time with infuniq®print and infuniq®pure and
process information in a team parallel. Generate “on demand” up to date and multi-
lingual information for your catalogue - and all other communication channels.
- infuniq®edit -infuniq®edit is another optional expansion level for infuniq®print in form of an
online editorial component. The module enables the user-friendly creation of adver-
tising documents. It provides cross-platform support for editorial processes during
the creation of advertising publications.
infuniq®edit provides detailed page planning and processing for publications. The
publication is divided in page sections (single or double spread). Each page consists
of 1 to n templates, which in turn group a number of elements.
The format of a prototype resp. a whole page is defined by raster, sample pages
and templates, which have been created in advance in Adobe InDesign® by
infuniq®print and the plug-in priint:comet.

infuniq®print for the print channel
- infuniq®web -The online catalogue engine displays your products and documents professionally
on the internet. infuniq®web is both another expansion option within the
infuniq®-Suite and an individually available web application to use other PIM
systems as a data source.
Hence, infuniq®web, independent of the respective conditions, provides you with
the advantages of effective and user-friendly online product communication.
-Latest database technology in the new infuniq®web Version V.4-The module release infuniq®web v4.0 is based on the latest NoSQL database tech-
nology (not only SQL), which is also used by the major global search engines, social
networks and online market places.
Even though relational databases are safely transmitted, they nevertheless suffer,
in case of data-intensive applications - such as indexations and frequent write and
read access - , from technically-related performance deficits. The database model
SQL is better suited when the focus is placed on high transaction security and large
batch actions.
NoSQL is far better equipped to deal with a large number of write and read re-
quests. A feature, which is particularly welcome on the web.
Transaction and failure protection in case of a high level of access is guaranteed by
redundancy.
Data is processed in an extremely agile manner and without the limitations of a
relational database model. With this kind of database, easy scalability is also a
significant advantage over SQL data base models.
Overall, the infuniq®web catalogue engine lets you display a vast number of pro-
duct information in various portfolios and in different languages for a wide range
of online catalogues - both efficiently and failure-proof.
-Define portfolios for target group and country specific Markets-Are you and our products represented in various markets all over the world? You
operate several websites with product information for different target groups?
Market und country specific product information in a localised online shop or mar-
ket place must be offered in different languages to address users in their respective
languages. However, this alone is not sufficient. Even though multilingual product
presentations are important, they do not automatically meet all requirements of the
international market.
Products and product variations, which are not offered in different countries and
markets, must also be considered. If relevant portfolios were not compiled, choo-
sing the German language in an online shop located in the US would be accompa-
nied by German product configurations, even though these product variations are
not available in the US.
Increased support, mispurchases and returns, general customer confusion and disil-
lusioned online customers no longer willing to take the risk would be the expensive
consequence.
Apart from that, a market specific portfolio facilitates the integration of relevant
languages. Hence, the product range, adjusted to country specific environment
variables, will be compiled in the languages required - both market specific and
tailor made for individual target groups. Market access becomes significantly easier
and safer.
-Seamless ECMS integration -A special feature of infuniq®web is also the way catalogue contents interact with
Content Management systems. This was already implemented with ECM systems such
as OpenText and FirstSpirit.
Whilst some prefer using CM systems to manage extensive product information,
infuniq® takes a more flexible and - in our opinion - a more sustainable path.
As in particular flexible and fine-grained information management of mass data and
the possibility of multichannel publishing based on it can be best implemented by
a PIM system.
That is why static HTML contents from the respective ECMS are combined with dyna-
mic product information from infuniq®pure via the catalogue engine infuniq®web.
infuniq®web assumes the display of all product information, whilst online editors
use the familiar ECM system.
