The shorter the focal length, the more field of you view you can capture. The same happens with larger focal lengths. At 350mm there's also a distortion of reality: the face of the model becomes flatter and wider – which might be more flattery for some people.
Note: For the most part, this only applies to SLRs or other cameras with interchangeable lens, but there are other photography tips that any one can use!

A good rule-of-thumb is to have your subject place their weight on the rear leg and turn 3/4 from the camera’s position (one shoulder slightly closer to the camera than the other).
Have your subject flare their elbows away from the body a little to thin-out their silhouette. Have them lean their head slightly towards you and look slightly above the camera when the picture is taken. If you are at a lower level look, have them look directly forward. Take several photos including with a flash. Flash fills are often useful. If outside, shoot in shade.
Watch out for the background. Clothing – especially patterns can make a huge difference as well. What to do with glasses?
Whatever is closest to the camera will appear largest. Shooting level to a person’s face or slightly above will reduce “double chins”.

• Balance elements out• Rule of thirds• Leading lines – where to lines and elements in your photo go? What do
they lead or point to?• Patterns • Symmetry – symmetry is pleasing, but lack of symmetry can be interesting• Viewpoint and depth of field – what does it communicate• Cropping – eliminate background noise, focusing on the subject• Color – basic color and composition theories apply to photography as well

When Google purchased picnik (and folded some of the functionality into Google Photos, but dismantled the overall product), clones popped up. Among these are picmonkey and ribbet. Picmonkey offers an easy way to make social media avatars and profile photos (like the Facebook cover image). Some parts of picmonkey are free; others are not. We’ll look at picmonkey( picmonkey.com) first.
• Image editing – resize, touchup (blemish fix, teeth whiten, redeye, weight loss (makes photos slightly more vertical) - free), autofix, rotate, sharpen, exposure, resize, filters (some), add text
• Collages, social media avatars : Crop>No fixed proportions (change to your size)
• Additions: Text, Frames, Stickers (shapes); holiday
