About Windows XP Mode in Windows 7
Windows XP Mode is a new benefit of Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate and provides additional application compatibility. It allows you to install and run many of your productivity applications for Windows XP directly from your Windows 7-based PC. It utilizes virtualization technology, such as Windows Virtual PC, to provide a virtual Windows XP environment for Windows 7.
Below are the steps to install Windows XP Mode feature in Windows 7 Professional :
System Requirement
CPU:- 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit RAM:- Recommended 2 GB HDD:- 15 GB of hard drive space
Step-1. To install XP Mode add-on by follow the link given below

Step-2. After visiting the above link, you have to select edition of Windows 7 and then select language as shown
Step-3. After selecting windows edition and language, it will show you three option, choose first, option i.e. Download/Install Windows XP Mode as shown
Step-4. As you click on Download/Install Windows XP Mode option, it will validate the Windows Genuineness first and at last show you below page:-

While windows genuineness validation complete then go ahead by click on Continue, it will show you download page, click on RUN then it will provide you option to SAVE or RUN the setup, here we chose RUN and then download process begun :-
After completion of download, setup will launch itself, if we choose the run option at the time of downloading. Click on Next :-

On next page, it will show you the installation path (you can change the installation directory or path), here we click on Next to proceed further:-
This will install the Windows XP Mode in the system, then click on Finish to complete the installation

Step-5. As the Windows XP Mode installation completed, Go to the next step and download/install Windows Virtual PC as shown
As you click on Download/Install Windows Virtual PC option, it will download and extract the Virtual Hard Disk on the system and setup will start itself

After setting up the Windows Virtual PC, it will install an update KB977206 and required a restart so restart the system after installation of update.
Step-5. After restarting the system, Visit the above mentioned link and choose next step to download/install Windows XP Mode Update

Click on Yes to install the update
While update installed, restart the system. Now Windows XP Mode function installed in the system.

1. Click on Start button ==> Click on All Programs ==> Find there a folder Microsoft Virtual PC ==> under this folder, two options are available first is, Windows Virtual PC and other is, Windows XP Mode

2. Accept the licence terms as shown and click on Next

3. After accepting the licence terms, it will ask you for the password credential, give password and confirm it then click on Next as highlighted

4. After providing password, it will ask to install automatic updates, then select it and click on Next

Running IE6 from Windows 7
Follow the steps below to run IE6 from your Windows 7 desktop:
Start your IE6 Virtual Machine by double-clicking its icon in the Virtual Machines folder Go to Start > All Programs
Windows Virtual PC Virtual Machines. Youll need to log on with the XPMUser ID and password you entered when installing XP Mode.
Next we need to copy the IE shortcut Right-click the XP Start button and select Explore All Users.
Any shortcut you copy into this folder will be replicated in the Windows 7 Start menu. Therefore, create or copy an IE
shortcut as necessary, like in Figure, Creating an IE6 shortcut.After a few moments, a new folder containing the IE6
icon will appear in the Windows Virtual PC Start menu.

To start IE6 from Windows 7 click Start > Programs > Windows Virtual PC, then locate the newly created VM folder,and
click the IE icon. The first time IE is run, you will be prompted for the XPMUser password, as shown in Figure, XPMUser
password promptenter it, tick Remember my credentials, and click OK.
