In Hippocrates’ motherland, the Greek island of Kos, a well-known chain of high-end resort hotels decided to launch a spa that would try to revive the Hippocratic health program and combine it to a modern holistic approach. The importance of “topos”, the exact location and its special attributes were carefully taken into consideration for the final design outcome. Thus, the design was based on an ecological character and tried to link the interior to its surroundings and outdoor space.

The main concept was the exploration of reflections as a vital element of spatial design. The low-height pre-existing concrete slab was dealt with not as a restriction, but as an opportunity; the ceiling was covered by a lacquered fabric reflecting the pool surface and thus generating a rich imagery.




All views were strategically positioned on a central axis of movement so that as sequence of images succeed one another. The sequence of views uses the leaf picture as a striking starting point of departure and peaks with the elliptical element at the far end of the relaxation space. That is the main focal point underlining the importance of relaxation. A pair of suspended Plexiglas armchairs (design by Letti & Divani) is prominently placed in the centre of the relaxation space so to provide an additional aesthesis of luxury.

This 5* resort hotel was renovated based on the concept of thematic suites – The presidential suite was completely re-arranged in order to cover the needs for a meeting room, two bedrooms (one of them has its own private bathroom) with separate (open style) walk-in dressing rooms and living room. Mini suites were designed in black-and-white and all-beige style, maintaining most of the original furniture.

Renovation was only partial – the hotel lobby, together with lobby bar and main restaurant will be redesigned in near future; nevertheless, the a-la-carte restaurant was redesigned in order to obtain a more “fresh” feeling without completely altering the original classic character (and keeping a relative low-budget).

Village Hotel is a family hotel located by the coast of Psalidi, 4 km outside Kos Town. The layout involves approximately 70 separate buildings which are arranged so to provide a “village-feeling” and thus ensure a maximum flexibility in separate renovation projects. The current project aimed to provide a fresh and modern look by using vibrant colours and various textures – strong rectilinear geometry was used in furniture and bathroom design.

Three separate restaurants were redesigned: the Main Restaurant, an A-la-Carte Greek Restaurant and an A-la-Carte Italian Restaurant. A major rearrangement was required for the Main Restaurant since a lot of problems involved circulation, differentiation of service areas from seating area and a general negative atmosphere created by gloomy lighting and dark colours. Suspended ceilings, lighting design, spatial rearrangement were made and fresh colours were combined with proper lighting features.

This old-style resort hotel was redesigned are rebuilt in only 10-weeks time. The basic design philosophy behind the project was to maintain part of the classic style combining it with modern elements in order to provide a simple modern-classic style look. Straight lines, theatrical lighting, soft coloration in earth tones and olive green touches were combined with wallpaper patterns and decorative items. The whole 11,000 sq.m. building was completely altered and a new outdoor restaurant was built from scratch.

The main idea behind the design was to combine the already existing classic elements with new modern ones and finally provide a unique whole. The main circulation axis divides the lobby in two parts; where the axis meets the main seating area, a “ribbon” is formed. The “ribbon” is made of curved gypsum boards and brings two existing columns together. The boards are covered by stripe-pattern wallpaper creating an illusion of an ”intrusive” element in the heart of the lobby. The project involved not only the lobby area, but a new spa, a sushi-bar, the main restaurant, an a-la-carte restaurant and redesigning the pool area.

In redesigning this old-fashioned 4* resort hotel it was very important to provide a sequence of intriguing views under a special design concept. The chosen concept was that of water and waves. Circular and semi-circular patterns aimed to create a flexible idea of motion and flow. Horizontality and dynamic perspective, in combination with strong colour contrasts provide a sense of spatial directionality. Theatrical lighting techniques were applied to enhance the aesthetical ambience and furniture was placed in a way to underline the building’s relation to coastal view.

Just like the Ag.Gordios Beach Hotel, the Pelekas Beach Hotel was located on a cliff’s edge facing the western Corfu island coastline. An old-fashioned building built in the early 90’s with marble floors and a distinct dome in the middle of the lobby that had to be redesigned and refurbished in almost 12-15 weeks. The idea was to “freshen it up”, to modernize it with a tight budget and within the given timeframe. The project involved redesigning the lobby, 3 restaurants (the main restaurant, a sushi bar and an a-la-carte restaurant), the pool bar and pool area and 181 rooms.

Archipelagos Resort Hotel is a 5-star summer resort hotel outside the village of Naoussa, in the island of Paros. The project involved the landscape design and the idea was to create a “village-feeling” providing a cosy and friendly character, a metaphor of Greek tradition mingled with modern spatial elements. Simple geometric forms and smooth colours in earthy tones were chosen in combination with a variety of local plants and flowers of the country side.



This 4-star summer resort hotel is located in Psalidi, 4 Km outside Kos town, on a hillside approximately 300m far from the coast. The concept behind the renovation was to provide a feeling of “liberation”, a sense of lightness and humour bound together with a colourful and happy mood.
