Wow! What wonderful weather we have had this spring! Students have continued to work extremely hard to meet their learning goals throughout the Spring months. In addition to this, they’ve been very active in school activities— track and field, talent show,

goodwill, reading clubs, cheerleading , French Camp and Author Visits.

June is just as busy!! Congratulations to our Grade 3 and 6 students who are finishing up the Educational Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing this week. They have

prepared well and put forth their best efforts throughout their 6 days of testing.

End of year trips are planned : Kindergarten—Cave Springs—June 1 ; Primary—Port Dalhousie—June 14 ; Juniors—Cave Springs—June 25, and Intermediates– Camp

Wahonowin—June 11-15 .

Congratulations to Mrs. J. Kelly!!! She has chosen to retire from teaching after a successful career spanning 38 years. She will be dearly missed by our students who each day are eager to enter the world of the French language as Madame presents critical thinking challenges to them. Many of our students who have been taught and mentored by Madame Kelly have gone on to be successful French teachers, or government workers with a bilingual role. We wish her good health and happiness as she opens a new chapter in

her life. Thank you Madame for your kind and determined verve for learning and teaching.

We will also be saying farewell to other staff as they relocate to other schools for next year: Mr. Tempest will be transferring to Dalewood, and Mrs. Meecham will be

transferring to Grand Avenue.

We will welcome our new students to Central on Tuesday, June 19th from 4 –6:30 pm. We will have several student guides to show our new families both the school and relate

some of the wonderful events that happen within the halls of the school each day.

Our new Grade 6 students will also participate in a “Welcome to Central” afternoon on June 18th. This will give them an opportunity to meet our current grade 6 students and

get to know our school a bit better.

Congratulations to our athletes who competed valiantly at TRACK AND FIELD ZONE back in May. Good Luck to those who were successful as they compete against the best of the best at the DSBN meet on June 11th. Thank you to the many hours our coaches have put into

training our students for success.

CHEERLEADING SQUAD COMPETES AT

CANADA’S WONDERLAND

The Cheerleading Squad competed at Canada’s Wonderland’s International Competition on

Saturday, May 26th.

The girls had a wonderful day and completed

their routine with confidence and accuracy.

Then they got to enjoy the remainder of the day

on the rides.

The leadership team will be hosting a FAMILY, FOOD, FUN & FITNESS NIGHT on June 6th, 2012! This after school event will take place from 4:30pm-6:30pm and is open to all students and families of our Central School community.

The focus of this open house is on the importance of staying fit, healthy eating, and having fun while be-ing active. Throughout the school there will be various displays, and interactive activities for all ages to enjoy! A holistic nutritionist will be on site to share information and there will also be Zumba lessons tak-ing place in the gymnasium!

Please come out and enjoy this exciting event.

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS AT CENTRAL SCHOOL

With the warmer weather upon us and hopefully staying, Students are reminded to wear appropriate clothing for our school setting

1. Hats or head coverings must be removed upon entry into the school and not worn indoors.

2. Shoes must be worn indoors due to safety/fire regulations.

3. Students, regardless of age, are not permitted to wear inappropriate clothing which includes: - short shorts( approx. a 6 inch inseam), halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti strap tops, “see through” tops or mesh tops (unless worn with an undershirt)

4. Exposed undergarments, bare midriffs and backs are not permitted. Shirts, blouses, T-shirts and sweaters must be long enough to cover the midriff.

5. Clothes bearing written statements, or diagram (pictures, logos, people) that do not promote a positive and safe environment; that are racist, suggestive, or in bad taste, or that advertise al-cohol, drug or tobacco products are not permitted.

Remember a positive school culture and tone are integral to the creation and enhancement of a school environment committed to the achievement of personal and academic excellence.

Important Dance-A-Rama Information Friday, June 1st, 2012

Thank you for all your help collecting money for Dance-A-Rama. Our theme for this year’s dance is ‘Canadian Olympic Pride’. Below is the schedule for the dance. Please note that although each student is asked to pledge $5 in order to make the dance successful, no student will be excluded if they were unable to bring $5.

The second and third place fundraisers will receive a cash prizes, also, the top fundraising class will receive a pizza party. Money raised will be used to purchase a new class set of SMARTboard interactive devices!

Congratulations to Central's Battle of the Books team. They have been working hard reading a number of books since March, and will be competing in a trivia-like competition based on their readings in June. We know they'll do well! IPADS IN THE CLASSROOM An interactive tool that supports and extends the opportunities for learning and development

The ipad:

• is active, hands-on, engaging and empowering;

• can be tailored to provide practise and reinforcement of activities at each child’s own developmental level;

• improves traditional learning activities by saving time, meeting each child’s individual learning needs, moti-

vating reluctant learners and making learning fun;

• provides visual, audio and tactile learning;

• provides children with instant feedback and enhances feelings of success;

• is a library, a writing centre, a listening centre, a math manipulative, a science book, a workbook, an art sta-

tion, a music and musical instrument studio, a camera, a recorder and so much more!

The touch screen enables children with poor fine motor skills to

practise their handwriting in a safe, easy to erase mistakes mode.

Using Ipads in Kindergarten as :

• A math centre activity

• To practise fine motor skills and the alphabet

• A reading centre

• Large/small group instruction

der. 2) There is a new payment method now available: Online Banking! You can set Fundscrip up as a 'payee' through your internet banking website for direct payments from your bank account. Unlike paying via credit card or Interac, there are no fees taken off the school's earnings using this method. As it takes a day or two for the payment to be processed this way, however, you do need to place your order and make your online pay-ment a few days before Fundscrip's order cut-off date. EFT (void cheque) payment will continue to be an op-tion as well.
