● Google Plus debuted on Sept. 20, 2011,less than a year and a half later, the network has become the No. 2 social network in the world behind Facebook.

● Facebook has 1.15 billion users● Google+ has 540 million users● LinkedIn has 259 million users● Twitter has 220 million users

How is it Different?

● Can video chat, chat with friends, watch videos with friends.

● Go to Google+ from Youtube. ● Google "Hangouts" only for Google+ users.

Mainstream Google Products

● Picnik – Online photo editing service. Picnik closed on April

19, 2012. They've packed up and moved some of their most

popular tools and effects to Google+.

● Orkut – Social networking service, where users can list their

personal and professional information, create relationships

amongst friends and join communities of mutual interest. In

November 2006, Google opened Orkut.

● iGoogle – Customizable homepage, which can contain

Web feeds and Google Gadgets, launched in May 2005. It

was renamed to iGoogle on April 30, 2007.iGoogle will be

discontinued on November 1, 2013.

Google Strategy for Google+

● Google launched the Google+ service as an invitation-only "field test" on June 28, 2011.

● Google+ is Google's 4th try at a social media site. ● Each Google+ member had 150 invitations to give out

until September 20, 2011, when Google+ opened to everyone 18 years of age or older without the need for an invitation.

● Before Google+ was launched it was otherwise known as "Google Circles".

Google+ Business Features

● Google+ connects with Google Apps for business purposes.

● Private Sharing: Now, Google Apps users can control how content is

posted to Google+. For example, a Google+ post can easily be restricted

to within an organization or be shared with specific partners outside of an

organization.

● Video Meetings: Google+ Hangouts, which is now integrated with Google

Apps, allows video conferencing for up to 10 people. This feature allows

face-to-face meetings using either webcams or smartphones.

● Administrative Controls: The admin settings allow administrators to set

company-wide defaults for posts and restrict Hangouts to specific users to

ensure private meetings.

Google Plus Usage

● Most people that have a gmail account have a Google Plus account.

● Some may never use them but they have them without even knowing.

● People still often choose to use other social media websites still instead of google plus.
