Lecture Information

Plan:I will use my PDF lecture slides to create recorded movies. I am able towrite on the PDF notes with a stylus (pen) and this allows me to addextra comments/notes/graphics while I record my voice for the lecture.

These movies will each be about 15 minutes, and 2 or 3 movies willcoincide with each MWF lecture.

This week’s M and W lectures are posted now in ICON under ‘OnlineLectures’.

These will be .mov files. Apple’s QuickTime programs, and WindowsMedia Player are all able to play .mov files. I believe iPad (iOS) deviceswill also play these files. If we have any issues, I can convert to mp4files (but I haven’t had trouble in the past).

I plan to upload them to ICON on the day of the lecture (by 12:30),but I may be able to upload multiple lectures early.

Lecture Information

Class poll: Raise your hand if you have successfully downloaded andviewed a posted lecture movie in ICON.

Plan Addition:

I would like to do a few ‘live’ Zoom lectures.

This will give you a chance to ask questions or just touchbase.

Perhaps once a week for a synchronous ‘live’ lecture (it will be taped soyou do not have to be present).

If I have zero participants, I will go back to non-synchronous lectures :)

Let’s take a poll, show of hands for who WOULD be interested in theoccasional synchronous lecture...

Homework

Homework will be assigned as usual and appear on our public coursehome website.

Electronic submission of HW7 went well. Some options used:1 Write out the mathematical equations using LaTeX.2 Use Paint 3D on laptop, do handwriting, save as image and then

embed in Word or Latex.3 Use scanner on the iPhone by... Opening ‘Notes’ on iPhone, creating a

new note, tap the camera icon at the bottom, it will give you an optionof Scan documents. The camera will scan the document and save as aPDF. (This is preferred over *just* a smart phone picture.)

4 Take a picture and embed it in Word or LaTeX.

Completed homework will be uploaded to ICON while we’re doingOnline Teaching.

Homework - returning work

I’ve emailed with the grader, and it sounds like he has the ability touse ”add stick notes” to a PDF on his Mac.

He will use this to show you the points that you received and to addcomments.

They will be returned electronically via email.

Homework - office hours/help via email and Zoom

1 If you have a question, first try email. I can often convey what isneeded through that platform, but not always.

2 Office hours: 9:30-11am M & W (the usual)

BUT I WILL NOT START THE ZOOM OFFICE HOURS UNLESS IGET AN EMAIL REQUESTING HELP!!

So, just email me if you need help on homework or you have otherquestions that can’t be answered by email, and we can connect viaZoom by joining the scheduled meeting.

Exams - Exam 2 Friday April 3

Exam 2 will be this Friday from 12:30-1:20pm.

I may be able to set a time for release on ICON, or I will send thePDF via email.

I’d like to use Zoom as a proctoring tool

You will be connected during the exam.ICON has online quizzes, but I’m not sure I want to stay within thelimitations.Proctorio may be another option, but I’m not sure I’ll get much morethan what I will get with a Zoom proctoring.It will be open note, but it will be long enough that you won’t be ableto look everything up in that amount of time!!!MAKE A NOTECARD FOR YOUR YOURSELF!!

Returning exams:

At 1:20pm, you should take a photo of your work (each page with apicture) and send it to me via email (this is a place holder for theactual submission).

As soon as you can after 1:20pm, I’d like you to upload the submissionto ICON in the same manner as you uploaded HW7.
