For By Grace Are You Saved Through Faith; And That Not Of Yourselves:

It Is The Gift Of God Not Of Works, Lest Any Man Should Boast.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which

God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

DRAWING NEAR Hebrews 10:22-25 (KJV) Let us draw near with a true heart in full

assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our

faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,

as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Four reasons why we should assemble together

FOR A CLOSENESS TO THE SAVIOR {vs 21}

Psalms 5:7 (KJV) But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will

I worship toward thy holy temple.

Jeremiah 7:2 (KJV) Stand in the gate of the LORD'S house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

FOR THE CONVICTION OF SIN {vs 22}

Acts 2:37 (KJV) Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

FOR THE COURAGE TO BE STEADY {vs 23}

FOR COMPANIONSHIP WITH THE SAINTS {vs 24}

GETTING UP WHEN YOU’RE DOWN

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Psalm 103:2

Christians who become discouraged and despondent find it hard to see the bountiful care God is constantly showering on them. The comforting promises of the Word of God and the help of Christian friends are but two benefits that are always near at hand. When downhearted believers deliberately begin to count their blessings rather than nurse their troubles or air their complaints,

the clouds of despair begin to break and light shines through.

There is, or shall we say, “Should be a bond of love between Christians that the unsaved do not understand, nor can they comprehend.” The Scripture bears this out. Jesus said, as recorded in John 13:34-35, “ A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one

another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” Our Lord also said in Matthew 12:33, “the tree is known by his fruit.” According to the Apostle Paul’s writing in

Galatians 5:22-23 “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance” or self control. This being a factor in the Christian’s life it should not be difficult for us to love one another.

Jesus said in John15:12-13 “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” For the disciples of Christ to love one another upon such grounds, and in

such a way as He loved them, is what His heart greatly desires, and is very much set upon. Also, Ephesians 5:25 .…“Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” What an honor to have the strongest love that has ever been revealed in this world bestowed on us. And it is the greatest privilege to be able to love and demonstrate that love as we minister to the family of God. It is often reward enough just to be able to extend that love to someone else, but Jesus said, “whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.” Matthew

10:42 …Imagine, the satisfaction of helping a friend in need and being rewarded by God Himself also! That’s like having your cake and eating it too! We should make the love which Christ had for the church a model for our lives in our relationship to and with the

Christian community, the church. This Scripture in Ephesians relates to the Husband’s love for his wife, but our bond with our Christian friends should be this strong also.

A gifted preacher suffered a nervous breakdown. During one of his periods of extreme anxiety, a friend told him that with the Lord’s help he could overcome his depression. He suggested that the minister think of all the people who had exerted a good influence upon

his life over the years. Then he asked, “Did you ever thank any of them?” The downhearted man confessed that he couldn’t recall ever having done so. His friend urged him to start with just one person and write to him, expressing his appreciation.

The pastor acted on his advice. When he learned that his letter had greatly encouraged the one who had received it, his heart was also lightened. So he jotted down the names of others who had helped him. Before long, he had written more than 100 letters. As he

counted his blessings, he realized that the Savior was actually encouraging him through these individuals. Soon he began thanking God daily for His love and goodness.

Counting your blessings and delighting in the Lord is one effective way to defeat despondency.

If you find yourself wearing a spirit of heaviness, try the garment of praise.

I Forgot To Thank Him

I woke up this morning and knew that today, the sun would not be shining and the clouds would be gray.

As I stepped outside, rain fell upon my head.My car wouldn't start so I walked to school instead.

I forgot all of my assignments, I failed all of my tests.I dropped my head in disgust and asked the Lord for one request.

Lord, why is it that things won't go my way?He gently replied, "Dear child it is because you didn't

thank me yesterday.I woke you up and enabled you to see the sun again.

I gave you shelter, protected your family, and even let you make a new friend.

I blessed you far greater than I ever had before. But you were too busy to thank me once more.

You didn't feel sick because I maintained your health. You had money in your pocket because I maintained your wealth.

You had shoes on you feet and clothes to wear, too.You had plenty of food to eat, and what did you do?

You ignored me and went about your tasks. But when you wanted something you never hesitated to ask.

I was there when you needed me, and that wasn't too long ago.But when things started going your way,

it was me you did not know.As if that weren't enough, I provided your favorite luxuries.

This was something I didn't have to do-theyweren't even necessities.

And when it was time to get on your knees andshow your gratitude,

You decided that after such a fulfilling day,you weren't in the mood.

So I decided to give you just a little test.To show you how it would feel to stop being blessed."

I began to realize what the Lord was saying. And when I got home, I fell to my knees and started praying.

He said, "My child, you have learned and you know I do forgive. But remember to remember this day as long as you shall live.I love filling your life with joy, and your pain I'll alleviate it.

But just a simple thank you would show how muchyou appreciate it."

In Memory Of Cash Cagle

It’s your birthday again and it has been a while since you left us...

Oh how our heart aches to see your smiling face.We long to feel the soft touch of your hand.

We long to hear your tender encouraging words, and your sweet soothing voice.

The memory of you will never fade, you will be in ourhearts forever and always.

The day will come when we are with you once more.Until that day we will never forget.

Rest in peace...And Happy BirthdayWe will always love you.

Bible’s For Sale

A preacher concluded that his church was getting into very serious financial troubles. While checking the church storeroom, he discovered several cartons of new Bibles that had never been opened and distributed. So at his Sunday sermon, he asked for three volunteers from the congregation who would be willing to sell the Bibles door-to-door for $10 each to raise the desperately-needed money for the church.Jack, Paul and Louie all raised their hands to volunteer for the task. The minister knew that Jack and Paul earned their living as salesmen and were likely capable of selling some Bibles. But he had serious doubts about Louie who was a local farmer, who had always kept to himself because he was embarrassed by his speech impediment.Poor Louis stuttered badly. But, not wanting to discourage Louis, the minister decided to let him try anyway. He sent the three of them away with the back seat of their cars stacked with Bibles. He asked them to meet with him and report theresults of their door-to-door selling efforts the following Sunday.Anxious to find out how successful they were, the minister immediately asked Jack, 'Well, Jack, how did you make out selling our Bibles last week?'Proudly handing the minister an envelope, Jack replied, 'Using my sales prowess, Iwas able to sell 20 Bibles, and here's the $200 I collected on behalf of the church.''Fine job, Jack!' The minister said, vigorously shaking his hand. 'You are indeed a fine salesman and the Church is indebted to you.'Turning to Paul, 'And Paul, how many Bibles did you sell for the church last week?'Paul, smiling and sticking out his chest, confidently replied, 'I am a professional salesman. I sold 28 bibles on behalf of the church, and here's $280 I collected.'The minister responded, 'That's absolutely splendid, Paul. You are truly a professional salesman and the church is indebted to you.' Apprehensively, the minister turned to Louie and said, 'And Louie, did you manage to sell any Bibles last week?' Louie silently offered the minister a large envelope. The minister opened it and counted the contents. 'What is this?' the minister exclaimed. 'Louie, there's $3200 in here! Are you suggesting that you sold 320 Bibles for the church, door to door, in just one week'Louie just nodded. That's impossible!' both Jack and Paul said . 'We are professional salesmen, yet you claim to have sold 10 times as many Bibles as we could.''Yes, this does seem unlikely,' the minister agreed. 'I think you better explain how you managed to accomplish this, Louie.'Louie shrugged. 'I-I-I re-re-really do-do-don't kn-kn-know f-f-f-for -sh-sh-sure,' he stammered.Impatiently, Peter interrupted. 'For crying out loud, Louie, just tell us what you said to them when they answered the door!''A-a-a-all I-I-I s-s-said wa-wa-was,' Louis replied, 'W-w-w-w-would -y-y-you l-l-l-l-l-like t-t-to b-b-b-buy th-th-th-this b-b-b-b-bible -f-for t-t-ten b-b-b-bucks ---o-o-o-or--- wo-wo-would yo-you -j-j-just l-like m-m-me t-t-to st-st-stand h-h-here and -r-r-r-r-read it t-to y-y-you??'Remember the funniest jokes were the clean ones? They still are

When God the Holy Spirit called us to salvation in Jesus Christ He had a purpose for us in His kingdom’s work…….Romans 8:28 …we know that all things work together for

good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Our First Love

Think back to the day when you met Him,When you surrendered your all to the Lord;

Do you remember the grace He had shown you,How He paid the price we could never afford?

How free you had felt from the bondage,No longer carrying that great burden of sin,Knowing that you had finally been forgiven,

His presence was now felt within.

A new life had begun with the Savior,You had longed to learn of His ways,

Your desire was to earnestly seek Him,In His word and in prayer everyday.

Does that fire still burn deep within you?Do you walk faithfully down the path that He leads?

Is your communion with Him still as preciousOr do you cry out to Him when there's only great need?

Lord, I pray we'll remember you always,We'll not forget the great sacrifice you made,

The blood that you shed there at Calvary,May the memory of that day never fade.

When you arose from the grave "three" days later,Proving there was life after death evermore,

May we realize the awesomeness of your rising,The eternal life that we now have in store.

Now, Oh Lord, I pray that you'll remind us,To daily worship our Father Above,

Rekindle the fire that once burned so brightly,For You, our dear Savior, OUR FIRST LOVE.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have

everlasting life.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee

with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Psalm 103: 2-4

Learn To Fly, Like A Butterfly

The air is full of butterflies.Flying so effortlessly in the sky.

No weight they carry, to hold them down.Never a worry or a frown.

And yet not long ago, they were...A crawling little... caterpillar.

I wonder if they knew they’d be...A beautifully butterfly, flying so free.

They do not question how long they’ll live...But are happy with each day God gives. They trust that he will always provide,

whatever they need...to survive. So learn to trust...and fly away,

from cares and worries of today.See how beautiful life can be...

Rely on Jesus, to supply your needs.By: Valerie Bauer Rousseau

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned,in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content...Butmy God shall supply all your needs according to his

riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:11 & 19 KJV

Lost With GodMy Lord, God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know

for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am

following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to

please you does in fact please you. and I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about

it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will

never leave me to face my perils alone.

Let us trust in God and allow Him to work out things for good in our lives. Let us cast our anxieties on Him,

and rest comforted in His love. By doing so, we will have our answers in due season, because God has promised that patience will indeed bring plentiful

rewards to our lives.

Someone has written these beautiful words. One must read and try to understand the deep meanings in them.

The Ten Commandments we should follow in life all the time. And along with them these are great things to keep in mind.

1] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble; it is a "steering wheel" that directs us in the right path throughout life.

2] Do you know why a car's WINDSHIELD is so large & the rear view mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our

FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on.

3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write.

4] All things in life are temporary. If going well enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong don't worry, they can't last long either.

5] Old friends are like Gold! New friends are Diamonds! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you

always need a base of Gold!

6] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!

7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision."

9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has

prayed for you.

10] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES; it takes away today's PEACE.

“The blood of Jesus Christ . . . cleanseth us from all sin.”

He is the First and Last, the Beginning and the End! He is the keeper of Creation and the Creator of all! He is the Architect of the universe and the Manager of all times. He always was, He always is, and He always will be... Unmoved, Unchanged, Undefeated, and never Undone! He was bruised and brought healing! He was pierced and eased pain! He was persecuted and brought freedom! He was dead and brought life! He is risen and brings power! He reigns and brings Peace! The world can't understand him, The armies can't defeat Him, The schools can't explain Him, and The leaders can't ignore Him. Herod couldn't kill Him, The Pharisees couldn't confuse Him, and The people couldn't hold Him! Nero couldn't crush Him, Hitler couldn't silence Him, The New Age can't replace Him, and Donahue can't explain Him away! He is light, love, longevity, and Lord. He is goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, and God. He is Holy, Righteous, mighty, powerful, and pure. His ways are right, His word is eternal, His will is unchanging, and His mind is on me. He is my Redeemer, He is my Savior, He is my guide, and He is my peace! He is my Joy, He is my comfort, He is my Lord, and He rules my life! I serve Him because His bond is love, His burden is light, and His goal for me is abundant life. I follow Him because He is: the wisdom of the wise, the Power of the powerful, the Ancient of days, the Ruler of rulers, the Leader of leaders, the Overseer of the overcomers, and the Sovereign Lord of all that was and is and is to come. And if that seems impressive to you, try this for size: His goal is a relationship with ME! He will never leave me, Never forsake me, Never mislead me, Never forget me, Never overlook me, and Never cancel my appointment in His appointment book!

When I fall, He lifts me up! When I fail, He forgives! When I am weak, He is strong! When I am lost, He is the way! When I am afraid, He is my courage! When I stumble, He steadies me! When I am hurt, He heals me! When I am broken, He mends me! When I am blind, He leads me! When I am hungry, He feeds me! When I face trials, He is with me! When I face persecution, He shields me! When I face problems, He comforts me! When I face loss, He provides for me! When I face Death, He carries me Home! He is everything for everybody, everywhere, every time, and every way. He is God, He is faithful. I am His, and He is mine! My Father in heaven can whip the father of this world! So, if you’re wondering why I feel so secure, understand this . . . GOD said it and that settles it. God is in control, I am on His side, and that means all is well with my soul. Everyday is a blessing because GOD IS!

Would You Listen?

THE SITUATION: In Washington, DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, this man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2,000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After about 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule. About 4 minutes later: The violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk. At 6 minutes: A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again. At 10 minutes: A 3-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly. At 45 minutes: The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.After 1 hour: He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all. No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 milliondollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100 each to sit and listen to him play the same music. This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities. This experiment raised several questions:*In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?*If so, do we stop to appreciate it?*Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context? One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the bestmusicians in the world, playing some of the finest music everwritten, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made . . .

How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?Remember ...Yesterday is history,Tomorrow is a mystery,Today is a gift from God.That's why it's called: The Present.Enjoy life NOW .. it has an expiration date

Future Minister

After a church service on Sunday morning, a young boy suddenly announced

to his mother,"Mom, I've decided to become a minister

when I grow up.""That's okay with us, but what made you

decide that?""Well," said the little boy, "I have to go

to church on Sundayanyway, and I figure it will be more fun to stand up and yell, than to sit and listen."

Dear Lord,

So often I question your ways and fail to trust in you, thinking

that unless things are done MY way, they will not be done

properly. I repent now Lord and ask that when I think this way,

You will remind me that Your plans are far greater than mine.

In Jesus name,Amen

The Janitor

An unemployed man goes to apply for a job with large computer company as a janitor.

The manager there arranges for him to take an aptitude test(Section: Floors, sweeping and cleaning).

After the test, the manager says, "You will be employed at minimum wage, $5.15 an hour. Let me have your e-mail address, so that I can send you a form to complete and tell you where to report for work on your first day."Taken aback, the man protests that he has neither a computer nor an e-mail address. To this the manager replies, "Well, then, that means that you virtually don't exist and can therefore hardly expect to be employed."Stunned, the man leaves. Not knowing where to turn and having only $10 in his wallet, he decides to buy a 25 lb flat of tomatoes at the supermarket. Within less than 2 hours, he sells all the tomatoes individually at 100% profit. Repeating the process several times more that day, he ends up with almost $100 before going to sleep that night. And thus it dawns on him that he could quite easily make a living selling tomatoes. Getting up early every day and going to bed late, he multiplies his profits quickly. After a short time he acquires a cart to transport several dozen boxes of tomatoes, only to have to trade it in again so that he can buy a pick-up truck to support his expanding business.By the end of the second year, he is the owner of a fleet of pick-up trucks and manages a staff of a hundred former unemployed people, all selling tomatoes.Planning for the future of his wife and children, he decides to buy some life insurance. Consulting with an insurance adviser, he picks an insurance plan to fit his new circumstances. At the end of the telephone conversation, the adviser asks him for his e-mail address in order to send the final documents electronically. When the man replies that he has no e-mail, the adviser is stunned. "What, you don't have e-mail? How on earth have you managed to amass such wealth without the Internet, e-mail and e-commerce?Just imagine where you would be now, if you had been connected to the internet from the very start!"After a moment of thought, the tomato millionaire replied,"Why, of course! I would be a floor cleaner at a computer company!"

Wrong Number Just In Time

Rick volunteers with prison ministries, and in his work has become friends with a pastor of a store front church. The pastor's church is called Almighty God Tabernacle.

It was about 10:00 PM, but his wife didn't answer the phone. The pastor let it ring many times. He thought it was odd that she didn't answer, but decided to wrap up a few things and try again in a few minutes. When he tried again she answered right away. He asked her why she hadn't answered before, and she said that it hadn't rung at their house.

They brushed it off as a fluke and went on their merry ways. The following Monday, the pastor received a call at the church office, which was the phone that he'd used that Saturday night. The man that he spoke with wanted to know why he'd called on Saturday night.

The pastor couldn't figure out what the guy was talking about. Then the guy said, "It rang and rang, but I didn't answer." The pastor remembered the mishap and apologized for disturbing him, explaining that he'd intended to call his wife. The man said, "That's OK. Let me tell you my story. You see, I was planning to commit suicide on Saturday night, but before I did, I prayed, 'God if you're there, and you don't want me to do this, give me a sign now.' At that point my phone started to ring.

I looked at the caller ID, and it said, 'Almighty God'.I just got the courage today to call back.~Author Unknown~

The Rusty Car

A car transport trailer pulled up to the house with ten cars. The driver got out and rang the doorbell. Clad only in a housecoat and slippers, the owner of the house answered the door."I have two Rolls Royce's, two Ferraris, a Bentley, a Cadillac, a Mercedes, a Corvette, a Porsche, and an old Impala. All of the cars are brand new except for the Impala," the driver of the transport trailer said."What are you parked in front of my house for?" the homeowner asked?"The cars are for you. You have an anonymous benefactor who has given you ten cars. There is no charge, there is no obligation, you don't even have to say thanks. If you don't want the cars, I can take them back immediately and tell him to never send you anything again and he won't," said the driver. The homeowner was both puzzled and excited. Who was this person? Who in the world would give such valuable gifts without a single string attached? Looking at the shiny new cars the excitement grew."Will you sign this delivery receipt and this form that gives you the titles to all of the cars?" the driver asked."Sure," the homeowner said. It was like winning the lottery. With the titles freshly in hand the homeowner went to inspect the newfound treasures more closely. "Wow!" the homeowner thought examining each car as they gleamed and shined in the bright sunlight. "Magnificent, and I didn't have to pay one dime for them," said the homeowner. Then the homeowner approached the Impala. It was old and had seen its better days decades ago. The paint was rusted. The tires were worn. It didn't even look like it would run."Why in the world did he give me this?" the homeowner wondered. Then the homeowner began to get angry. "Does he think that I would drive around in a piece of junk like that? It's ugly compared to the rest of these fine cars. What was his purpose in giving me that?"Just then an older neighbor passed by. He stopped at the transport truck and admiringly viewed the cars. He inspected each one carefully, one by one, the Rolls, the Ferraris, butonly the old Impala arrested his attention."My goodness, I used to have one of these when I was young," the old neighbor recalled with a wishful look in his eyes. Although he admired the other cars, he had no real interest in them. His eyes were fixed on the Impala. "Would you by any chance consider selling it? I'll pay you whatever you want for it."The anger at the old car was abated as the homeowner thought, "This is too good to be true. Nine new cars and now someone wants to buy this piece of junk."That's the end of this story. Don't understand it?It's a parable.

"About what?"Even if you don’t like the rusty old Impala, be thankful for the gifts that you do treasureand never let the one negative diminish the many positives.

That rule will take you a long way in life and in love.

My PartyI planned an exclusive party.

I worked on my plans lavishly. The theme of my party was "pity"And the only guest was "poor me."I dwelt upon each hurt and sorrow,

And probed all the problems I faced,While each of the slights I had suffered

Around me I carefully placed.I spent endless hours in my misery,Recalling the depth of each pain,As each reappeared it grew larger,Thus causing more pity to gain. The longer I stayed at my party,

The more I felt sorry for me.And the lower I sank in depression,

The less of real hope I could see.I reluctantly opened my Bible,

And read of God's love and His grace. The Lord touched my heart at that moment,As tears coursed their way down my face.

I started to count all my blessings,And realized as never before,

That when I think they're all numbered,

WAITING FOR THE WIND...

My nephew's 10 year old son came for a visit one hot, July weekend. I was enticing him to stay inside by joining him in a nintendo game. After being mercilessly defeated by a more experienced player, I suggested that we relax awhile. I collapsed into my favorite recliner to let my neck muscles relax and my ego recover from such a beating. He had slipped out of the room and I was catching a few relished moments of peace and quiet. "Look, Alice," he said enthusiastically as he ran over to the chair where I was recovering."I found a kite. Could we go outside and fly it?"Glancing out a nearby window, I noticed there was not a breeze stirring. "I'm sorry, Tripper," I said, sad to see his disappointed eyes, but thankful for the respite from more activity. "The wind is not blowing today. Thekite won't fly."The determined 10 year old replied. "I think it's windy enough. I can get it to fly," he answered, as he hurried out the back door. I peeked through the slats in the venetian blinds to watch determination in action. Up and down the yard he ran, pulling the kite attached to a small length of string. The plastic kite, proudly displaying a picture of Batman, remained about shoulder level. He ran back and forth, as hard as his ten year old legs would carry him, looking back hopefully at the kite trailing behind. After about ten minutes of unsuccessful determination, he came back in. I asked, "How did it go?""Fine," he said, not wanting to admit defeat. "I got it to fly some."As he walked past me to return the kite to the closet shelf, I heard him say under his breath, "I guess I'll have to wait for the wind." At that moment I heard another Voice speak to my heart. "Alice. Sometimes you are just like that. You want to do it your way instead of waiting for the Wind." And the voice was right. How easy it is to use our own efforts to accomplish what we want to do. We wait for the Wind only after we have done all we can and have exhausted our own strength. We must learn how to rely on Him in the first place! -Alice (Anon.)

I Love To Tell The Story

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

I love to tell the story, ’twill be my theme in glory,To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seemsThan all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.

I love to tell the story, it did so much for me;And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee.

I love to tell the story, ’twill be my theme in glory,To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story; ’tis pleasant to repeat what seems,Each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet.

I love to tell the story, for some have never heardThe message of salvation from God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story, ’twill be my theme in glory,To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story, for those who know it bestSeem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.

And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,’Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

Free To Soar

imposed restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. "Free at last" it seemed to say. "Free to fly with the wind."

Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. "Free at last" -- free to lie powerless in the dirt, to be blown help-lessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction.

How much like kites we sometimes are. The Lord gives us adversity and restrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of us tug at the rules so hard that we never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. We keep part of the commandment and (pardon the pun) never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground.

Let us each rise to the great heights our Heavenly Father has in store for us, recognizing that some of the restraints that we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helps us ascend and achieve.

Wayne B. Lynn

One windy spring day, I observed young people having fun us-ing the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing in the heady atmosphere above the earth. As the strong winds gusted against the kites, a string kept them in check. Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing up-ward and against the wind. As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say, “Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!” They soared beautifully even as they fought

Broken Dreams

As children bring their broken toysWith tears for us to mend,

I brought my broken dreams to GodBecause He was my friend.

But then instead of leaving HimIn peace to work alone,

I hung around and tried to helpWith ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,“How could you be so slow”

“My child,” He said, “What could I do?You never did let go.”

Two VisitorsBy Beth Fisher

Used with Permission

Two visitors came to see me, both at the same time, Both were trying to win control of my body, heart, and mind

One was dressed quite plainly, one dressed fit to kill, I couldn’t see the battle they were waging for my will.

One promised to give fame, friends and riches beyond compare, Anything I wanted, it seemed, and while I was standing there,

He showed me how life could be, for a little while at least, I couldn’t see beneath the clothes, to recognize the beast.

The other told of hard times, of sacrifice and pain, Ridicule and persecution, nothing much to gain,

But there was something deep in this visitor’s eyes That made me feel to choose Him, somehow would be wise.

I guess you know the outcome, I hope my life reflects, The one I picked, the path I chose, the one that He directs.

But now at last I see Him, as He truly is THE KING! So, did I choose so poorly, I wonder as I sing...

Eternal praises to my God at last in heaven’s city. Could I have been richer, more popular, what a pity-

For now all I have to show for the pain and unkind laughter, Is a crystal mansion on a street of gold, living happily ever after.

RememberHell Is Real

You’re the Only Way

Sometimes, I get lost upon a cloud of tearsAnd blinding fog, to my eye would pierce; But I know I only have to pause and pray,

Because Lord, You're the Only Way.

When the waves of sorrow engulf my soulAnd worry keeps me inside this gaunt hole;I know that to You, everything I would lay

Because Lord, You're the Only Way.

Sometimes the knife of rage would stab my heartAnd my head feels like falling apart.

I canot find a way to mend them back but pray,Because Lord, You're the Only Way.

You're the Only Road, I know; the Only Way,Even if among a billion stars I'll go astray,

You will still be there, ever near,I will always remember that, as I whisper an earnest prayer.

Two little boys, with fresh young faces but old hatreds fill their eyes.

Glaring across at one another, with anger and despise.“Why do you both feel this way?”

croaks the old frog from his lily pad.“What have you done to one another?” uncertain why they’re mad.

“My father said, this is our way, that his side did us wrong.”“Well my uncle has said, your sides to blame.”

shouts a reply from across the pond. The old frog then looks at both of the boys and

questions with dismay.“How can these brothers someday soar together,

if they’re chained down by yesterday?”by W.A.S.
