because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him

JOHN 6:5b-9• Jesus said to Philip, "Where are we to buy

bread, so that these people may eat?" He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little." One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?"

man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing

Think About it…When Faced with Pressing Problems, we

often Focus on OUR LACK instead of HIS SUFFICIENCY

JOHN 6:10-13• Jesus said, "Have the people sit down."

Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, "Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.“…

SpurgeonTruly, he who writes this comment has

often felt as if he had neither loaf nor fish; and yet for some forty years and

more he has been a full-handed waiter at the King’s great banquet

JOHN 6:14-15• When the people saw the sign that he had

done, they said, "This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!" Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself

Deuteronomy15:15-18

• "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—just as you desired of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.' And the LORD said to me, 'They are right in what they have spoken. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

JOHN 6:51-54• – I am the living bread that came down

from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you…

PiperHe is opening this window on His glory,

NOT that we might get excited about how useful he might be in getting what we

already wanted, but that we might see that He Himself is better than anything we ever wanted. The point is that the Son of God has come into the world not to GIVE you

bread, but to BE your bread

the world is my flesh

Thielicke“Success exposes a man to the pressure of people and thus tempts him to hold on to his gains by means of “fleshly” methods and practices, and to let himself be ruled wholly by the dictatorial demands of incessant expansion. Success can go to my head, and will unless I remember that it is God who accomplished the work, that he can continue to do so without my help, and that He will be able to make out with other means whenever He “cuts me down to size”
