If you would like to explore the possibility of becoming Catholic or if you are Catholic and want to better understand your faith, we invite you to join us on a journey of discovery. We journey together and that is exactly what the RCIA is all about, journeying together toward a deeper rela-tionship with Christ and a deep-er understanding of our Catholic faith. Contact

A rare gift Sarah Gray was three months pregnant with identical twin boys when she and her husband, Ross, learned that one of them suffered from anencephaly, a fatal birth defect. Six months later, Thomas and Callum were born; Callum survived, but Thomas died six days later. Sarah and Ross decided to donate Thomas’ tissues and organs to science research. They were able to donate his liver, his cord blood, his retinas and his cor-neas. A short time later, Sarah was on a trip to Boston. She re-membered that Thomas’ corneas had gone to the Schepens Eye Research Institute at Harvard. She and Ross had signed away any rights to future information about the donation. But she decided there was nothing to lose by calling. “I donated my son’s eyes to you a couple of years ago,” Sara explained to the receptionist at Harvard. “I’m in town on business for a couple of days. Is there any chance I can stop by for a ten-minute tour?” The woman who answered paused. “I’ve never had this request before.” The woman asked Sara to hold for a moment; finally, someone came on the line and said she would be wel-comed. The next day, Sara met one of the researchers at the lab. The researcher said that an infant’s eyes “are like gold to us.” Thomas’ cells were still being studied at the lab as they developed treatment for a number of different eye ailments. The warm and grateful welcome she received gave Sarah “the bug.” So she and Ross arranged visits to the other three labs around the country where their little boy’s tissues had been sent. At Duke University, they learned that Thomas’ blood was part of a study on how anencephaly develops. Scientists at the Cytonet lab explained how Thomas’ liver was being used to develop lifesaving therapy for liver disease. And at the Universi-ty of Philadelphia, the Rosses saw how Thomas’s retinas were a Godsend to researchers looking for ways to treat retinoblasto-ma, a deadly cancer of the retina. For Sarah and Ross and Callum, the donation of Thomas’ tissue was no longer an abstract “nice thing to do.” The extraor-dinary good of Thomas’ gifts became something real to them. Their feelings of grief turned into pride. Their son and brother was with them in this life-giving work. Sara and Ross Gray model the generosity of heart and spirit of optimism of the gardener in Jesus’ parable. Like the gardener who sees some hope for the struggling fig tree, the Rosses are able to see beyond their grief to make some good come from their little boy’s death. As God’s mercy and compas-sion know no end, we are called to embrace the faith of the gar-dener: to work and re-work our own small plots and realize its harvest of compassion and grace.

Dear Parishioners: Several weeks back, Fr. Paul and I attended a presentation on safety for churches. While the information was very good, it presents some unique challenges for Catholic churches and how we gather to worship God. We are wondering if there is anyone who shares these safety concerns and might be willing to help develop some strategies and procedures for all four of our churches. Call me, if interested. Also looking far ahead, Sunday, September 1 will be OUR Parish Picnic, a four parish picnic, at Brady’s Run Park. Details will fol-low but mark your calendars. Week three of Lent starts today. If you find yourself stumbling in your Lenten resolutions, don’t give up. Remember Jesus fell on His way to Calvary. Ask for His strength and compassion. Pick yourself up and keep going. Stations of the Cross are a powerful Lenten prayer. We have lots of opportunities: 4:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul, Beaver; 6:30 p.m. at Holy Family, New Brighton; 7:30 p.m. at St. Cecilia, Rochester and St. Felix, Freedom. There is also a children’s version at Saints Peter and Paul at 2:00 p.m. (School children are the leaders). I am happy to share with you that we have hired a Facilities Manager for our four parishes. Bruce Whipple is his name. He has an extensive background in construction and maintenance. He is also certified as a teacher and has been doing substitute work. Bruce and his wife live outside of Freedom. He will be starting as soon as his clearances and papers are in order. We owe thanks to the interviewing team: Bill Anzalone, Rob Dunbar, Al Gallo, Fr. Paul and Ethan Russell. CONFESSIONS THIS WEEK: Wednesday – March 27 @ St. Cecilia, 6:00-6:45 pm; Saturday – March 30 @ Saints Peter and Paul

You'll be transformed through insights into this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. Participants in this seven-part series will see (on our beautiful new 72 inch screen) how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm; how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church; and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.

During Lent we will once again use the “Sacrifice Jars” as we did last year. Through your past support, we collected enough donations to provide 8 meals for the Men’s Shelter in Beaver Falls. This year we will divide the donations between

two great causes. We will continue to have the Youth Group do the dinners for the Shelter but we also want to give a portion to be used by our Voice of Justice Committee for the stu-dents in Rochester Elementary School. 210 children here in our own community are provid-ed with backpacks which contain enough foods items to tide them over through the weekend. These children would not have sufficient food were it not for the efforts of the Voice of Justice and the Revis Island Foundation who is re-sponsible for filling the much needed items in the backpacks. In February, they placed ap-plesauce cups in each backpack and plan to provide individual cereal bowls in March, fruit snack pack for April, and an orange for May. Please be generous with your Sacrifice jars will be in the back of Church starting on Ash Wednesday and will be collected by Easter Sunday.
