How amazed would the Christians of those days be if they could see how the seed has grown. It has spread to parts of the world of whose very existence they were totally unaware. We, today, need to have their trust and confidence in the power of the Kingdom to survive and spread. The seed of Faith lies dormant within each of us. 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time On this Eleventh Sunday in ordinary

time, we have two parables told by

Mark. Both are images of the Kingdom

of God, of God’s truth and love

spreading among people throughout

the world. In the first, God’s work is

As in the parable of the Sower, the

seed is the Kingdom. Night and day the process of growth continues without any

continues. The seed sprouts and grows and the sower does not know how. The outcome

is certain. Once the seed is ripe, it is time for the farmer to bring in the harvest. And that

is our task: to bring in the harvest which has been planted in the hearts of people.

In the second parable the Kingdom is compared to a mustard seed. Both of these

parables were words of encouragement to a struggling Church, living in small, scattered

communities and surrounded by hostile elements. How amazed would the Christians of

those days be if they could see how the seed has grown. It has spread to parts of the

world of whose very existence they were totally unaware. We, today, need to have their

trust and confidence in the power of the Kingdom to survive and spread. The seed of

Faith lies dormant within each of us. When we permit the Holy Spirit to nurture it with

tender loving care, it grows miraculously to gigantic proportions. Fr Rony

SVDP Winter Appeal: Jubilee Parish Vinnies conferences launch their annual Winter Appeal across the 19th to 20th June Masses. Vinnies are experiencing steady requests for emergency relief across all corners of the parish. COVID-19 related escalations in domestic violence and rental stress, both well reported in the media, are driving need. We again humbly appeal to the enormous generosity of our parishioners to support Vinnies’

‘Good Works’ and encourage you to petition family, friends and neighbours of like-minded charitable spirit to also contribute. Our Vinnies conferences are also actively recruiting members who can give from just 3-4 hours a month, ideally mid-week, to assist in the distribution of emergency relief to our ‘companions’.

Ruby Jubilee of Jubilee’s Shepherd: In the Bible the number 40 is used 146 times. Moses, Elijah, and Jesus each fasted in the desert for 40 days. In each case they gained new insights into God’s ultimate plans. Year 2021 is a special year in the life of our Good Shepherd, Fr Gerry, and for us as his sheep. On June 29th Fr Gerry completes 40 years of

priesthood. Now it is our turn to acknowledge the 40 years’ service of our good shepherd. The thanksgiving Mass will take place at 4:30pm on Saturday 26th June, at Sacred Heart Church, Rosalie. A light refreshment will follow. I invite all of you to this grace filled occasion to give thanks to the Lord, and congratulations and the promise of prayer to Fr

Gerry. Fr Rony

No to Waste: Pope Francis on June 5, 2013 addressing the General Audience shared his concern to be aware of the culture of waste. "I would like us all to make a serious commitment to respect and protect creation, to be attentive to every person, to counter the culture of waste and disposable, to promote a culture of solidarity and of encounter. Man is not in charge today, money is in charge, money rules. God our Father did not give the task of caring for the earth to money, but to us, to men and women: we have this task! Instead, men and women are sacrificed to the idols of profit and consumption: it is the ‘culture of waste.’”

Knowingly or unknowingly, we become part of this culture of waste. It has much to do with what we buy, the quantities, the packaging itself - surrounded with polystyrene, cardboard, and shrink-wrap. Dear friends, are you ready to counter act the ‘culture of waste’ with our simple acts, at least practised in our homes? For example, re-use carry bags, stop unnecessary purchases, stop the wasting of food. Fr Rony

BATTLING VAD LEGISLATION WITH PALLIATIVE CARE PUSH Queensland State MPs have the interval between now and late August to weigh up how they will use their conscience vote on the assisted suicide and euthanasia legislation (aka VAD legislation).

The church is not the only voice in this debate but it doesn’t deserve to be marginalised or openly ignored, especially when its position supporting ‘palliative care first’ is echoed by major medical providers (the Mater, St Vincent’s Healthcare, Southern Cross Aged Care), as well as key peak bodies (Australian Medical Association, Palliative Care Queensland, Catholic Health Australia).

Information fact sheets will be available to parishioners to develop their understanding and questions to be asked of our politicians.

If a significant number of parishioners heed its call to contact their local MP’s in person both via phone and email and express their views, it may give the member pause to reflect on how they will vote.

This weekend a one page ‘call to action’ page is available.

The “Prayer Circle” will pray with you if you have a need, we would like to help.

Phone Suzanne 0476235016 or Joyce 0400726630 and we will pass your request to our

other team members down the line.

Gloria

Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you,

We adore you, we glorify you,

We give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, Almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

You take away the sins of the world,

have mercy on us;

You take away the sins of the world,

receive our prayer;

You are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ,

his only Son, our Lord, who was

conceived by the Holy Spirit,

(all bow)

born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under

Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried;

he descended into hell; on the third day he rose

again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and

is seated at the right hand of God

the Father almighty; from there he will come to

judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy

Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of

saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen.

As a parish family, we welcome into the

church Prudence Moghan, Sam Spahr,

Sophie Spahr, Olive Fitzpatrick, Harriette Thompson & George Pomfret who were

baptised this weekend.

We rejoice with the families of Emily Cook

& Luke O’Connor who celebrated their

wedding this weekend.

We especially pray for Fredrick Boustead

who passed away this week.

WE PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF ALL THE

FAITHFUL DEPARTED; MAY THEY REST IN

PEACE.

This week, Julian Simmonds, MP for Ryan, attended our school assembly to present St Joseph’s with a new set of flags – Australian, Indigenous and Torres Strait flags. Three of our senior students, Rosie, Sofia and Zara kindly accepted them on our behalf. Rosie gave a lovely thank you speech. These new flags will hang proudly from our flag poles. St Joseph’s social action and justice focus for term 2 is to learn about and support our local SVDP chapter. This term we are supporting SVDP with a Winter food appeal and some cash. Our school is a great supporter of this amazing group. Already we have had to get Kathrine come to collect some goodies. We still have another week to go. As part of our support, we had a ‘Wear a splash of favourite sport or hobby day’ last Wednesday, State of Origin match day. Each student was asked to pay a ‘fine’ of a gold coin or two for the privilege of wearing something not part of our school uniform. Catholic Missions is another group St Joseph’s supports and will be the focus of our Term 3 fundraising. At our school assembly last Monday, we welcomed Sue Williams from Catholic Missions. Sue presented us with a special candle in honour of the Year of St Joseph. She told us a bit about the wonderful work of Catholic Missions.

On Thursday 3rd June the Year 1 and 2 students celebrated mass with the parishioners. Guided by the story of the Prodigal Son, students were encouraged to recognise and admit when they make mistakes. It is only when we realise that we are making mistakes, can we learn from them and make change in our lives. Just as the Son was taken back by his father, God will always welcome us back when we are ready. Yr. 1 Charity.

I loved singing our song – Be the Change! This happy song has been stuck in my head ever since our mass! (Sophia K)

I enjoyed having our parents and grandparents at our mass. (By Harry P)

We loved learning last song ‘God’s Love is Big’! Thank you to the Year 2s for teaching us this new song!

On the Wednesday in Week Six of Term Two, Year Five went to Camp Goodenough and had an amazing experience. We slept in cabins with our friends and stayed up later than we should have. On the first day we were introduced to the considerate camp staff, and we also had our first activity which was billy cart building and riding. We were put in groups and were given instructions and equipment to make the billy carts. One person was steering the billy cart while the rest of their group pushed them around the track.

On Thursday, we had three new and exciting activities; team pursuit, crate stacking and indoor climbing. Our first activity was called team pursuit. We were split into two groups, red and blue. We had to face many different challenges and teamwork played a big role. The next activity was crate stacking. We all had to be put in harnesses and your

teammates controlled a pulley system where crates would be passed up to you. If your crate tower fell, you could still try again to get the highest level. The highest anyone got was eleven but the instructor, Max, told us that his record was sixteen. Then it was time for indoor climbing, where there were five levels. All of us had a go and tried our best and many of us succeeded.

On the last day of camp, we only had one activity left: high ropes. We got into our harnesses and helmets, ready for the activity, but we had to practise using the clips before starting. When we had finished the practice twice, we had the opportunity to try the easy or medium course and most of us tried both. After high ropes, we waited for the bus to arrive with our bags packed and ready. We all had a wonderful experience and would like to thank the camp staff and teachers who all made this memorable trip possible!
