HM King Hamad Launches 112-km Saudi Oil pipeline Link

HE Oil Minister Attends ADIPEC 2018(Continued from Page 1) Since its inception in 1984, ADIPEC has provided an unrivalled platform for industry experts to come together and share knowledge and meet with peers. ADIPEC remains in the top 3 oil & gas events in the world welcoming delegates, visitors and exhibitors from across the globe. The multi-disciplinary conference was intended for international and regional oil & gas professionals, involved in both the

technical and non-technical functions within the industry. The Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) participated in ADIPEC 2018 with a major stand featuring its latest developments and projects in oil industry. ADIPEC serves as a solid platform for global experts and decision-makers to discuss developments in technology, unconventional resources and international collaboration towards meeting global energy demand.

(Continued from Page 1) The pipeline project is a vital economic milestone which will form the nexus for further integrated projects, HM the King added. His Majesty lauded the longstanding cooperation between the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) and Saudi Aramco since 1945 and added that the new pipeline would serve to ensure this relationship continues to deepen for years to come. “The Kingdom of Bahrain cherishes the strong historic bonds it shares with Saudi Arabia and is committed to further strengthening these ties to drive continued sustainable development. The inauguration of the new AB-4 oil pipeline project is just one of a number of joint initiatives that will undoubtedly benefit the people of both nations”, he stated. His Excellency the Oil Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said the 112-km-long AB-4 pipeline will have a capacity averaging 358,000 barrels per day. Its launch signals the biggest expansion in the history of Bahrain’s oil refinery – a massive project which is expected to be completed within four years, he stated. The overall value of crude oil imported from Saudi Arabia would exceed $10 billion per year in refined oil, the Minister said. The pipeline will build on Bahrain’s many achievements, most notably the recent large oil discovery off Bahrain’s coast.

It was held at the Capital Club in the Bahrain Financial Harbour. The workshop was entitled ‘The New Bahrain Corporate Governance Code’. The presentation covered a range of issues regarding the new Corporate Governance Code, including: What’s new in this version of the Code? Overview of the Corporate Governance Principles, the requirements under the Code and an explanation of the ‘Comply or Explain’ structure to the Code. Improving the performance of the work teamIn November ILM2 groups 25 and 26 made their first individual assessed presentations on how to improve the performance of the work team. It was a daunting task; research a theory of motivation, prepare slides and script and deliver it in front of 10- 15 other delegates and a video cameraman! In spite of that several delegates managed to score 100% (subject to Internal Verification)The delegates, from Tatweer and Bapco, had to deliver the presentation in 10 minutes and then receive feedback from their colleagues, and the ILM assessor, Neil Porter. They all agreed that it was a tiring, but worthwhile day and they learnt a lot from each other. Special commendation goes to those who were involved in the shutdown and still managed to attend the Programme despite only having a few hours’ sleep! The groups will be back in December when the topics will be Understanding Change and Briefing the work team. These last two modules of the ILM 2 Programme are particularly relevant for Bapco with BMP underway.

Recognizing Hassan SalmanFor the first time in the refinery history the DCS (Yokogawa Centum XL) was installed in 1990 and was inaugurated in 1992-1993 in the 4A CDU and No. 2 Power Plant. Before that, the plant’s monitor and control system was old, pneumatic and not centralized. Part of it scattered in the plant’s courtyard and work stations, most of these systems were problematic and obsolete. The DCS has overall improved the functions of the plants. It is very fast, very accurate and does a number of functions that cannot be performed by pneumatic control; it also reduced maintenance cost and occupies less space. The DCS is fully centralized and all the plant monitoring and control parameters are at the operator’s finger tips by using few relatively small monitors located in the control room. After 18 years of the DCS systems being in service, it became obsolete and not anymore supported by the OEM (Yokogawa- Japan). It had to be upgraded to the latest version. Therefore, Power and Utilities department in cooperation with Process Control and Instrumentation department set up a project to upgrade DCS Centum XL to the latest version VP CS3000 in both No. 2 Power Plant and Utilities Plant. The project cost was about US $ 3,000,000.The first step of this project began in mid-2010 and the road map was developed

for this purpose. The DCS all equipments were purchased in 2011 from Yokogawa. In 2012 the factory acceptance test was conducted at their warehouses in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This contractually was required before shipping the equipment to the refinery for final installation. In 2013, the actual upgrading of the DCS work had started on hot cut over basis (This means the plant was live). This is vital to have all process units undisturbed. To achieve this task, the upgrade process was initially a bit slow so that the refinery’s process plants were not affected. The replacement process was complicated and needed skilled staff and a long period as stated above. As mentioned earlier, the process of replacing the DCS required highly skilled staff. Therefore, few high caliber operators were involved in the project for limited time and they were: Walid Naseef, Hussein Al-Oraibi and Ahmed Shihab, and Hassan Salman who had stayed on the project from the beginning till the end.Hassan Salman during his work on this sensitive project, which was directly linked to the control of all parts of the Power Plant and Utility plant, he referred to many issues related to the operation and revealed some p r o b l e m s that could

have caused a disruption in the operation process which would cause undesirable outcomes on to the production of 550 lb steam which is very vital to the Power plant as well as to process units operation.Hassan Salman persistency, loyalty, knowledge and moral, were acknowledged by all, within the project team members and his superiors. Recently, P&U Manager, A Qader Jaffer, in presence of Generation superintendent Majeed Abdulla recognized Hassan Salman for his excellent performance on the project and thanked him for his perseverance, dedication and continuous follow-up throughout the period spent in the project of modernizing the DCS systems.

Mohammed

Hussain, Manager Learning and Development, presented the certificates and congratulated those present for having invested time and effort in getting the most out of the course which has also given them a greater understanding of Bahrain and their colleagues. The Oil and Gas Academy will offer a further introductory course in the New Year and an intermediate course later on in 2019.

Bapco Diploma trainees successfully completedevelopmental training course at Outward Bound Oman

A cohort of 19 first year Diploma trainees from Bapco’s Oil & Gas Academy of Bapco, accompanied by two of their instructors, has recently undertaken a rigorous outdoor training camp aimed at instilling in them work ethics, discipline and team building skills. The challenging adventure expedition was conducted by renowned leaders in the field, Outward Bound in Muscat, Oman between the 13th and 15th of November. The programme consisted of three days and two nights in the wilderness without access to mobile phones

or any other trappings of modern life. This encouraged them to remain focused and engaged in the tasks that confronted them: obstacles designed to test their limits of emotional and physical endurance and highlight the link between effort and result. It was a resounding success in fostering team spirit and creative problem-solving skills coupled with determination. The trainees reflecting on the experience said:“We learned how to achieve our goals even if they were difficult, how to prepare ourselves

before any challenge to accomplish what we want, and how to work and communicate as a team with respect. We also discovered techniques on how to manage our time, resources and supplies, and useful camping skills. The work ethics we were exposed to, along with useful lessons and exercises will be invaluable in our future careers.”They were also pleased how the coaches were very friendly and supportive and thanked Bapco for sending them on an adventure of a lifetime. Mark Evans, General Manager of Outward

Bound Oman, said that ‘we are honored that such a well-respected organization as BAPCO has entrusted us to challenge and develop its young talent and we have all very much enjoyed working with the Bapco team.”Mohammed Hussain, Manager Learning and Development, commented that “Bapco has always placed great importance on developing the youth of Bahrain and we are delighted to provide our first cohort of Diploma trainees the opportunity for personal growth which Outward Bound Oman offers.”

BOOST Success: make sure thatworking and working surfaces are stable and level.

Boost Observation, NEIL GILBERT from CSD Awali noticed that the carpet tiles under the observee’s chair were loose and making the movement of the desk swivel chair difficult and was also a potential tripping hazard as the carpet tiles kept riding up out of position. A work order was raised and the tiles from the perimeter of the room that were not walked on were interchanged and the carpet tiling made safe.

80 different ways. Start with the R in the top left-hand corner. Go to the A on the right. Now go straight on to the D. You can now complete the word in four ways, because there are four A’s available through which you may reach an R. There are four ways of reading through the right-hand A. There are the same number of ways through the A that is immediately below the starting point. The total is now eight. If you take the third route diagonally through the A, you will have the option of using any one of the three D’s, You may now complete the word in four ways. You can spell RADAR in twelve ways through the diagonal A. Twelve plus eight equals twenty readings, that all start from the R in the top left-hand corner. The four corners are equal.
