Meshal Fakhroo trainee operator in the Utilities section was recognized by Mgr. P&U in the presence of his section head; Janardhanan Mannu, for his diligence and alertness in identifying a fuel gas leak in the utilities plant pipe trench. On 18th Oct’2018 at 01:30 AM, during his routine shift patrolling, he had identified a gas leak on the Khuff gas header at south of phoenix bridge downstream of Valve No.15 in a congested location. This leak finding leads to immediate isolation of the header with alternate supply

arrangement and by following the leak protocol process. Identifying and isolating the flammable gas leaks without disturbing the plant operation is a critical activity and it is not only protecting the plant and facility but also in conserving the energy resource. By Meshal’s identification of this leak and the proper execution of his shift activity and duties proved the effectiveness of Osool Bapco: #2, #6, #8 and #10.

7 Tips to SAVE the environmentWe have all heard about the climate change and its horrible consequences. We normally feel useless and powerless to fight against it, but the truth is that every single one of us has a massive power and can really make a difference. By making some easy changes in our daily life we can certainly help to save the environment.#1 Use your car less. Walk, use your bike or public transport and if you really need to use your car, make an agreement with more people to share it.#2 Watch the water. Simple gestures can save a lot of water and money: close the tap when you’re not using the water (while brushing your teeth, lathering your hair, etc), fix that leaky toilet, shorten your shower time, use dishwasher and washing machine when full, etc.#3 Avoid unnecessary packages. Choose to buy in bulk, make

your own products at home or when there’s no choice but buying something in package, choose the one with least packaging and avoid buying food that is individually wrapped.#4 Recycle. You can help reduce pollution just by putting that soda can in a different bin. It really makes a difference.#5 Make a wise use of energy. Switch off and unplug those devices that use electricity when not in use. Avoid leaving items plugged in, such as phone chargers or microwave (they can use “phantom” electricity), turn off lights when you’re not in the room and use rechargeable batteries.#6 Go zero waste. Or reduce the amount of trash you produce. You can achieve this by avoiding disposable items like plastic cutlery, coffee stirrers, straws or fancy decoration in your drink. Instead, use a reusable cup or mug for your everyday coffee and a reusable water bottle that you can refill all over again. Bring your own

fabric bags when shopping, stop using paper napkins and use cloth napkins instead, etc. #7 Be a mindful consumer. Buy less and second hand or used products. Always ask yourself how your purchases are impacting other people and the environment before purchasing anything. Buy items that will last a lifetime and for those things that you need for brief or occasional use, borrow or rent them. Donate or give to friends or family those items you don’t want or use anymore.

5 Major Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water Over Winter

We all know the importance of staying hydrated during the warm summer months, however for many of us our water intake declines over winter. There are less visible reminders to ensure you drink water and you are less likely to feel thirst in the cooler weather than you would during hot summer days. It is even more important to drink lots of water during winter than it is during summer. Here are five key reasons why you should up your water intake to stay healthy and hydrated over the winter months.1. Fight Winter DehydrationAs the weather cools, we find ourselves wrapping up in more layers and turning on the heaters. This artificially warm environment is coupled with the dry air of artificial heating which leads to winter dehydration. Winter dehydration is harder to notice – particularly if you are not sweating and you are feeling cool. You may not have realised that you haven’t drunk any water during the day, particularly as your body’s thirst response significantly diminishes in cooler weather. But, dehydration can cause significant impacts to your well-being. It is vital you keep hydrated to regulate your body temperature, allowing your blood to carry important nutrients and oxygen around your body and remove toxins from your body.2. Improve Your SkinThe dry and often stagnant air created from central heating and heated air-conditioning can really take its toll on your skin. The dry

air and the contrast between being in a warm room to going outside in the cold can cause your skin to crack and chap. Water is vital in keeping your skin cells full and hydrated, reducing the risk of chapping and peeling.Water also removes impurities in your body, which, when not well-hydrated, can come through via your pores, causing blemishes.3. Be More EnergeticAre you partial to the mid-afternoon slump or perhaps need a midday caffeine boost to help you ward off fatigue? It is likely you are suffering from dehydration, a major cause of daytime fatigue. Keeping well hydrated will ensure your bodily functions are supported and running efficiently. When you are dehydrated your body functions slow down and use up your extra energy resources, leaving you feeling tired and sluggish. Keep a glass of water to hand and sip regularly to keep you alert and energetic during the day.4. Fight Winter Weight GainWhen the weather is miserable and the days are dark our bodies want comforting; often this manifests itself in comfort food – often highly calorific and unhealthy. Before tucking in, why not drink a glass of water beforehand? Our brains often mistake thirst for hunger and after drinking water that hunger trigger has been satisfied. This means you may not feel the need to snack or eat more food and can resist the temptation easier. Being well hydrated also helps our

digestive systems to function and process food better, which is vital during the months when we tend to over consume. Make sure you drink plenty of water to give your body a hand in digesting food.5. Protect Your Immune SystemThe winter months can be a testing time for our immune systems, with the many airborne viruses that we all seem susceptible to. Dehydration can seriously weaken our immune systems barriers. The lack of water can dry out the mucous membranes in our lungs and sinus passages which can reduce their resistance to infections.Keeping well hydrated during winter ensures that the barriers used to protect your body from colds and flu are fully functional and completely intact. To ensure you stay fighting fit during the winter, make sure you keep drinking water regularly and fight back against the viruses.Hopefully, these five reasons will be enough to remind you to keep your water intake up during the cooler months and keep you happy and healthy on the inside and outside.

Cell Phone Safety TipsAre cell phones safe? Opinions are varied. Why not err on the side of caution and minimize your risk when using your mobile phone. keep these tips in mind for safer chatting:

1. Talk less, text more. The further you keep your phone from your head, the smaller the risk of energy exposure to your brain. If you just need to relay information or ask a basic question, do it with a text rather than a call.2. Keep your mobile conversations to a minimum.Phone conferences and leisurely gabfests should be done on a landline. When you need to make a call on the go, keep it short and sweet.3. Use a headset.Use a hands-free device like a headset or talk on speaker phone, If you hold the phone 2 inches away, the signal is about one-fourth the original strength. At four inches away, it’s about 1/16th as strong. Even better is a hands-free kit with a wireless air tube nearest the earpiece.4. Keep your kids’ phone use to a minimum.Since children’s skulls are thinner than adults’ and their nervous systems are still developing, researchers believe they

may be at a greater risk for cell phone-related cancers. They’ll also be exposed to the potentially harmful radiation significantly longer than their parents’ generation. Until more is known about the possible carcinogenic effects of cell phone use, curb your kids’ cell phone habits by encouraging texting or using a landline instead.5. Consider your cell phone caseCell phone cases can make matters worse because they may block the phone’s antenna. The device must work harder to transmit signals which may lead to more radiation exposure for the user. Certification testing done by phone manufacturers are done with bare phones with no accessories.6. Switch to flight or “off-line” mode when not in useFlight mode turns off the wireless transmitter thereby reducing exposure to exposure to radiation fields. Make it a habit to either switch to flight mode or turn it off altogether when not in use.6. Avoid weak signalsWhen your phone has to work hard to find a signal, more radiation is emitted. Some phones can ramp up their emissions 1000-fold when the signal is weak. 7. Avoid use in a moving vehicleIn a moving vehicle, the cell phone antenna is constantly scanning for contact. Radiation emissions, therefore, are increased. While it’s tempting to use your phone in the car or while traveling, you’ll minimize your risks by sticking to stationary locations where there is a strong signal.

Awali CSD New Chiller Plant and Chilled Water Piping Network ProjectVariable Primary Flow (VPF) System, Variable Speed Compressors, Fans, Pumps, AHU’s and Vav’s

YIELDS YEARLY ENERGY SAVINGS OF APPROXIMATELY 175,800.00 BD. The recently completed Awali Air-Cooled VPF Chiller Plant No. 5 and new chilled water piping network Project by Awali Corporate Services Department (CSD) has phased out the aged constant flow Awali Water Cooled-Centrifugal Chiller Plant NO. 3 having old wooden structures Cooling Tower and corroded underground chilled water steel piping which was very expensive to operate and to maintained, in-efficient cooling system especially during high humid weather conditions. The new Air-Cooled Chiller Plant No. 5 operates automatically with high efficiency during high humid weather condition and high ambient temperature, it was tested to run continuously without tripping even when the ambient temperature rises to 52 0C. The Air-Cooled Chiller Plant No. 5 consists of the latest technology available equipment as follows: 1. Variable Primary Flow (VPF) System. 2. Variable Speed Chiller Screw Compressors. 3. Variable Speed Chiller Condenser Fans. 4. Variable Chilled Water Flow Evaporator (Heat \Exchanger).5. Variable Speed Chilled Water Vertical Pumps. 6. Non-corrosive High-Density Poly-ethylene (HDPE) Piping for underground chilled water system. 7. Fully-Automatic Chiller Plant Manager Smart Control System. The new Chiller Plant No. 5 chilled water piping network was successfully connected with Awali Main Office (AMO), Corporate Services (CSD) buildings and will be connected soon with Library AHU and other surrounding buildings using a chilled water HVAC system. The Design of AMO & CSD HVAC system are having Variable Speed Air Handling Units (AHUs), Pressure Independent Variable Air Volume (VAV) Boxes for each room or space with a temperature control thermostat installed in each room to provide independently controlled room temperature. The Chiller Plant VPF pumping system utilizes a variable capacity cooling system and a variable flow water pumping system to modulate cooling and water flow to meet chilled water needs and save operating costs. Chiller cooling capacity is modulated with variable speed drive screw compressors, variable speed condenser fans and variable chilled water flow based on the desired leaving water temperature. Water flow is modulated with VFD controlled variable flow primary pumps based on the differential pressure across the water system. With reference to the Pump Affinity Laws: Flow varies with rotating speed, head varies with the square of the rotating speed, and brake horsepower varies to the cube of the rotating speed. Since most air-conditioning systems only reached peak load few hours a year, the HVAC system operates at part-load conditions most of the times of the year. Energy is wasted by continually running the pumps, compressors and condenser fans at constant flow (speed). An efficient distribution system uses a variable flow that tracks the variable thermal load. The new VPF chilled water Pump delivers 1660 gpm @ 100BHP, at 50% flow reduced by pump VFD on part-load conditions, the pump BHP is reduced to 12.5 BHP. This equates to 87.5% energy savings. BenefitsConstant flow pumping systems traditionally utilize staged cooling system and constant flow water pumping system. Variable primary flow (VPF) systems save energy. Variable primary flow pumping systems save energy compared with constant flow pumping systems during part load operation because water flow is reduced, and less pump energy is required. In addition, with reduced water flow during part load operation, less compressor energy is required, therefore reduced compressor speed. Installation costs for constant flow pumping systems and variable flow primary pumping systems are similar because only an additional pump VFD is required in the variable flow primary pumping system.

ith less water flowing through the chiller, VPF system saves enormous or significant compressor energy by reducing the speed of the screw compressor by VSD. Variable flow primary pumping can also minimize efficiency losses during “low ΔT syndrome” conditions because of the ability to vary water flow through the chiller. To maintain a minimum water flow rate through the chiller, VPF pumping systems include VFD controlled variable speed primary pumps and supply water bypass line. The bypass line includes a modulating valve and return water flow meter to ensure the bypass operates only at the lowest loading conditions. To maintain condenser head pressure and optimize performance, VPF pumping systems included VFD controlled variable speed condenser fans.Benefits of VPF Air-cooled Chiller Plant: 1. Fully automatic system, soft-start Chillers and Pumps without electrical surge current. Requires

smaller Electrical Panel and cables compare to constant star-delta motors. 2. Operates at high efficiency during high humid weather and high ambient weather.3. Provides significant energy savings due to variable speed drives and variable flows. 4. Requires less Plant space.5. VPF provides enhanced capacity. VPF controls permit flow through evaporators to be increased

above design value6. VPF systems are not prone to low delta T syndrome.7. Reduced Initial Costs – A VPF system uses fewer pumps and fewer piping connections than

primary-secondary systems, which means fewer electrical lines. 8. Cooling Towers are not required. Condenser water pumps and piping are not required. No water

treatment required as no condenser water.9. Low Noise Chiller Plant. 10. Chillers, Pumps and Fans equipment have longer life expectancy due to reduced running rpm. Pump & Compressor Energy SavingSoft start and less energy is required to operate a compressor and pump and at a lower speed resulting with enormous energy savings. AHU Fan Motor Energy SavingVariable speed AHU utilizes a VFD to modulate the speed of the fan motor during part load conditions. At lower speed of the Fan or Blower, less energy is required to operate a fan at a lower speed resulting with high energy savings. The new Awali Air-Cooled Chiller Plant and Piping network Project was designed, specified, managed, executed and completed by Bapco-CSD Team of Manager, Supt’s, Engineers, Architects and Safety Officers together with the approved Contractors without any lost time and without accident or injury.

Google has been working on their translation applications and web services for a while now. Google Lens is quite impressive as it allows you to point the camera at a menu, a sign, or anything else with a non-native language and it can translate it for you. But what about applications on your phone that do not support your native language? Language Navi is an interesting, nice app. It lets users translate foreign languages inside of the app without any additional help. It uses OCR technology to recognize such languages and then translates them for you. It works in most types of apps, including messaging apps, social media, and others. Most apps with translation (Facebook, Twitter, Google Translate) work quite well, but they don’t work everywhere. It’s an interesting idea with a lot of promise, especially for people who speak multiple languages.

BMTS member Naser Al-Alawi won the 3rd position in the 2000 CC race despite the difficulties his car faced during the race. As for the Drag Race – Round Three, BMST member Hani Hussain hit a new record covering 200 meters in only 3.9 seconds at a speed of 300 kilometres per hour. He achieved the podium after winning the first position, confirming his status as a tough contestant for 2018-2019 championship in “Promod” category, the largest and fastest category in drag races. Hani not only achieved the podium, but also secured an outstanding performance in the “Index”

category with 8.5 seconds, achieving the first position in this category with his car (Copra Jet). There are only 50 vehicles of this brand all over the word, and Hani owns the 37th out of the 50 cars. BMST flags continue to fly high at the BIC podiums, with Mohamed Al-Jalahma – last year’s champion, who won the 2nd position in 4-6 cylinders, and Salman Mahmood who won the 3rd position in “AutoX” and “Drift” races of the same category. The BMST would like to hail the tremendous support of the Company, particularly the Management for all the help in achieving these outstanding results.

Scotland notch second successive victory in New Year’s Day ‘Auld Classico’ encounterThe Awali Football Club’s seasonal offerings finished with another of the annual encounters between players representing England and Scotland - the ‘Auld Classico’ - at the Awali Stadium of Dreams on 1st January. The ‘Auld

Classico’ is one of the major events on the Awali Football Club’s sporting calendar, jointly sponsored by Awali Football Club (AFC) and the Awali Caledonian Society. It generates much, excited interest, both from players and

supporters, to equally watch the match and the diminishing stamina of the players after the exertions of New Year’s Eve.Despite an evenly-matched performance from each team, Scotland went in ahead at half-time with a cleanly-taken strike from the right by first time, midfielder, MacAaron. England responded after the break with a swift equaliser from regular England forward, Chris Young. With the Scottish midfield controlling the game, Scotland hit back with a goal from debutee MacAndrew. The advantage was increased by MacIgor, who had also scored in last year’s Scottish victory. MacAndrew added a second to his tally, resulting in Scotland scoring four goals for the second successive year. England were worthy opponents, but did not find the rhythm to counter to the Scottish verve.

Both teams finished the match with all players still standing, and only two yellow cards used from some enthusiastic tackling, in a match ably referred by regular official, Nick Davies. The AFC Clubhouse witnessed the presentation of the ‘John Kerr Memorial Quaich’ by AFC Chairman, John Jaworski, to the regular Scottish captain, MacJonathan followed by another lively club social, with food kindly sponsored by Awali Football Club. The Scottish man of the match was David Lord and the England man of the match was Chris Young, both chosen by their opposing captains. Many thanks go to all the players and the supporters, but especially to the AFC committee members for helping to make the day such a success and keep this important Awali tradition alive.

The son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher has visited the museum dedicated to his father’s racing career, in Italy. Formula 2 driver Mick Schumacher, who is 19, posted photos on social media of his trip to the museum. Ferrari unveiled the special exhibition at their headquarters in Maranello on 3 January to mark former Ferrari driver Schumacher’s 50th birthday. “Michael has a special place in the history of Ferrari,” the team said. “The museum is decorated with images from the unforgettable years that the seven-time world champion gave to all at Ferrari.” The German suffered serious head injuries in a skiing accident in 2013 and has not been seen in public since.
