About Køge - Køge became a borough in 1288 - and is with a

picturesque downtown and the largest square outside the capital, one of the best preserved cities from the Middle Ages in the country.

The role of the mayor- The mayor is elected from among the town council

members- Leads political negotiations, including council meetings

held every month and the meetings in the economical committee - twice a month

- Head of the administration and it is the mayor’s responsibility to ensure that administrative standards are respected

- Represents the municipality of Køge and conducts wedding ceremonies – about 110 civil marriage ceremonies every year

Elections

Elections to the council take place everyfour years – on the third Tuesday in November

Every resident in the municipality over the age of 18 can vote. Those who do not have Danish citizenship must have lived in Denmark for 3 years before being able to vote
