The municipality of Kge

The municipality of KgeArea 256 km2About 57.000 inhabitantsAbout 9% are immigrants or their descendants (5.200/122 different countries) About 5.300 employees working for the municipality

About Kge Kge became a borough in 1288 - and is with a picturesque downtown and the largest square outside the capital, one of the best preserved cities from the Middle Ages in the country.

7Kge Town Hall was built in 1552, and is today the oldest town hall still in use in Denmark.King Christian III personally granted permission to build the town hall. It was built in the aftermath of the Reformation using recycled materials from the catholic Saint Gertrudes Chapel and Gr Brdre Monastery.The town hall has been used for many different purposes over the years. Apart from the Council meetings, it was used for weddings of both nobleman an commoners as well as for balls and theatre plays.Since 1884 the hall has only been used for council meetings.

8Kge City arm is shaped by the city seal, which has its oldest preserved print from 1329.- Kge Kommunes city arms is described heraldic: "A gold shield with a red pole bright, over the blue waves between green slopes. To the right a red cross, left a red gate tower in the middle a golden crown, the upper arm with a blue blessed hand. " The city arm of Kge is shaped by the medieval city seal the oldest preserved from 1329 In this design, theres no gate tower. The gate tower is a apart of the first city arm -with a new design from 1514. From 1909 the city arm was I colors.The implementation of Kge design line in 2004, here including a gentle work with the old city arm, and the result was a new city arm.The old city arm is only used in special occasionsThe town council of KgeThe council is the assembly of elected politicians with the overall responsibility of the municipalityThe council must have at least 9 and no more than 31 members and it must be an odd number Kge town council has 27 members representing 7 different parties.Kge Town council has 8 committees

10The mayor of Kge is Marie Strke. She is the youngest Mayor in Denmark, with the age of 29.The role as the mayor is to lead political negotiations, including council meetings held every month. The Mayor is the head of the administration and it is the mayors responsibility to ensure that administrative standards are respected. The Mayor also represent Kge Municipality and conducts weddings ceremonies. Kge has about 110 civil marriage ceremonies every year.

Elections

Elections to the council take place everyfour years on the third Tuesday in NovemberEvery resident in the municipality over the age of 18 can vote. Those who do not have Danish citizenship must have lived in Denmark for 3 years before being able to vote
