SAS (founded in 1983) is located near Grenoble in the French Alps. We design and manufacture high performance, research laboratory instruments and software for electrochemistry, battery testing and fuel cell testing.

Bio-Logic’s product range is based on a modular and flexible design. We offer electrochemical workstations and battery test equipment from single channel up to 64-channel systems, integrating EIS capability and high current boosters.

SP-200 High-end potentiostat SP-200 is the newest, research grade, value-oriented potentiostat/galvanostat in the EC-Lab® product range. With excellent specifications in a portable chassis, the SP-200 is the perfect instrument for any application in electrochemistry especially corrosion. The SP-200 offers outstanding features such as a floating mode, analog filtering, a built-in calibration board, and 9 stability bandwidths for a better control of the cell. Additionally, the SP-200 can be purchased with a standard DC potentiostat or an EIS capable one. There is also an Ultra Low Current (ULC) option. On-site experiments can be performed thanks to its portable design.

SP-300 Fast, sensitive, stable and modularSP-300 is a state-of-the-art research grade potentiostat/galvanostat/EIS with remarkable specifications. The base specifications are the same for both the SP-300 and the SP-200 including floating mode, analog filtering, built-in calibration board, and stability bandwidths. The SP-300’s modular chassis accept an optional high current/high voltage option board. Alternatively, the SP-300 can accept a second potentiostat board (either standard or EIS) and perform as a Bipotentiostat. It is also a multiple user system as each channel board can be used independently by two different researchers.

VSP Affordable research grade multichannelsThe VSP is a research grade potentiostat system in a 5-channel modular chassis. This allows the VSP to add additional capability in the way of plug-in “modules”. These modules provide EIS capability (included on the potentiostat board), low current measurement (uses 1 additional slot), 4 A current booster (two slots) and additional potentiostat channels (each one takes one slot). The internal 4 A option takes two slots in the VSP chassis and requires a potentiostat board to be used with it. External boosters from 2 A up to 100 A can be used with each channel in the VSP.

VMP3 16-channel research grade potentiostat systemThe VMP3 is a research-grade multi-channel potentiostat. With its modular chassis design, up to 16 independent potentiostat channels can be installed. The VMP3 can be equipped with additional capabilities, including low current measurement, impedance. Each potentiostat installed in the VMP3 can be connected to an external high current booster channel. The VMP3 is also a multiple user system. Thanks to the Ethernet LAN connection capability, several computers can be connected to the unit at the same time.

Boosters

VMP3 technology Deliver more power to your application with a high current boosterSP-150, VSP and VMP3 potentiostats can be interfaced to a separate current booster unit. These modular booster units can have different booster modules placed inside them (2, 5, 10, or 20 A). In the standard booster chassis there are 8 available booster slots and the current limit is 20 A. Each booster channel is connected to a potentiostat board. There is an 80 or 100 A booster unit. The 80 A and 100 A booster exist also as a stand alone system (HCP-803, HCP-1005 see page 16). One 4 A booster kit can be directly inserted in the VSP chassis.

VMP-300 technologyHigh current and high voltage boosters. From 1 pA to 150 A and from 5 V to 48 VA range of internal boosters has been designed to increase the current and the voltage specifications of the SP-300, VSP-300, and VMP-300. Four models are available: ±1 A/±48 V, ±2 A/±30 V, ±4 A/[-3;14] V, ±10 A/[0;5] V. MPG-2xx series R&D grade battery test stationsThe MPG-2xx series is proposed as a range of 5 units (in fixed configurations) with or without EIS on every channels:- MPG-2: 16 channels/100 mA each,- MPG-205: 8 channels/5 A each,- MPG-210: 4 channels/10 A each,- MPG-220: 2 channels/20 A each,- MPG-240: 1 channel/40 A.

The MPG-2xx series can be provided in a rack capable of supporting up to 5 units. Only one computer is necessary to control all the units thanks to the Ethernet connection. With this connection, the MPG-2xx series can be installed on a Local Area Network to allow multiple users to access the instruments and follow the battery cycling from anywhere. The MPG-2xx series offers a temperature measurement and three optional connection modes to the battery (battery holder, short or long cables). BCS-815Battery cycling test stationsThe BCS-815 is a multi-channel module in 19” format. Each BCS-815 module is composed of 8 channels, with each channel providing up to 15 A @ 5 V, 10 A @ 7 V and 5 A @ 9 V. Any of the channels within a module can be connected in parallel to increase the maximum current up to 120 A. Every channel in a module is EIS-capable over a frequency range from 10 kHz to 1 Hz for accurate and fast determination of the battery internal resistance. Up to eight BCS-815 modules can be added to a single BCSC-8 cabinet. As an alternative, the BCSC-4 can accommodate four BCS-815 modules. Each channel of the BCS-815 module allows for temperature measurement with K-type thermocouples.

A comprehensive software packageEC-Lab® is an advanced software package for performing electrochemistry measurements. With more than 15 years of development and constant improvement in techniques and features, EC-Lab® software has become the benchmark in potentiostat control software.

Display modeTwo view modes are available in EC-Lab®. The setup of experiments can be done with a technique menu, or by inputting parameter values into a spreadsheet. Most of the experimental parameters can be modified “on the fly” during the experiment, with the changes stored into the raw data file. The appearance of the software interface is able to be adapted to create the best working environment for the user.

Experimental sequence builderEC-Lab® software contains more than 80 techniques. These techniques can address applications in voltammetry, EIS, corrosion and energy source development. A powerful technique builder can execute a series of different modular techniques, wait and loop features to create complex experimental sequences. Even within each technique, the user can create up to 100 linkable sequences of that experiment with different parameters. When a certain level of the experiement is reached, an email can be sent to the user.

EIS measurementsEIS measurements can be made in both controlled potential and controlled current modes from 10 µHz to a remarkable 7 MHz. The patented “drift correction” algorithm and multiple stability parameters allow users to acquire the high quality data from their EIS measurements (more informations in page 22).

Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Built-in EIS capability with equivalent circuit fitting

MeasurementsMany units in the electrochemistry product range developed by Bio-Logic can be equipped with a built-in EIS analyzer. This measurement is based on the DSP technology that mixes accuracy and fast sampling.This feature results in several major tools developed in our control software: single sine and multi sine EIS techniques, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) based integration, cycle averaging up to 16 frequencies and a patented drift correction.

Controlling techniquesAC sine waves can be superimposed on a DC potential or a DC current value. Additional techniques are available that impose the sine wave on a potential (SPEIS, also known as Mott Schottky technique) or a current (SGEIS) sweep. Finally our EIS techniques can be sequenced to apply different defined conditions during the frequency sweep.

AccuracyAccuracy is given by the error observed on the phase and on the magnitude. For almost all of our potentiostats, we specify 1%, 1° accuracy below 500 kHz, which is reduced with a booster. For SP-200/300 technology, the performance is higher and reaches 0.3%, 0.3° accuracy in the same area.

ModelingEC-Lab® software offers Z Fit, a modeling tool for equivalent circuit fitting. Over 150 standard circuits combining 13 elements and two minimization algorithms (Simplex DownHill and Levenberg-Marquardt) are available to investigate impedance data. Z Fit and Z Sim tools are available in EC-Lab® demo version.

FCT-50S/Z & FCT-150S/Z Two models for 25 and 50 cm² PEM FCThe FCT-50S/Z and FCT-150S/Z are compact fuel cell test stations designed for PEM FC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell) testing. Based on feedback from our customers, they are designed to be the most flexible test stations on the market. The compact chassis integrates a programmable electronic load (250 W), gas and water control circuitry (flow, pressure and temperature) and data acquisition. The electronic load uses state-of-the-art technology and is capable of reaching very low voltage levels (virtually 0 V) at 150 A (for FCT-150S/Z) and 50 A (for FCT-50S/Z). Ecorr changes due to flow rate variation on mild steel sample (obtained by SDS technique).

The potentiostat/galvanostat give an average response of the electrode material and it is considered that it is homogeneous. However, for optimization purposes, it might be interesting to confirm this homogeneity and to study the spatial dependence of the electrode properties. Our local electrochemistry platform is a modular system that can include up to 9 techniques. The table below summarizes the techniques, the type of information that can be obtained, the smallest size of the features that can be detected and the typical applications.

Scanning systems

Focus on ic-SECMic-SECM allows the user to separate topographical and electrochemical information in a single experiment using standard SECM probes.An approach curve for an area scan experiment can be performed automatically or as directed by the user. The approach curve is performed by controlling and measuring the vibration amplitude of the probe. Press a button and the M470 approaches, finds and scans the surface.
