Hello Friesian breeder enthusiast!!!! :):):)

Welcome to the Ultimate Guidebook to Your Friesian Breeding Success! So excited to have you here and being interested in, perhaps, breeding with a Friesian.

I remember when I first saw a Friesian for the first time. My heart stopped. I was in awe of their beauty and power. They truly are a magnificent animal, made all the more special by their most beautiful soft, kind temperament.

I count my lucky stars every time I wake up and get to work with these amazing animals. Our stallions are so easy and fun to work with, all different in personality and in talents, but all special and wonderful in their own way.

I am excited for you! One step closer to achieving your breeding Friesian Dream. Maybe you are looking to breed a stallion to ride and compete? Maybe a mare to breed and show? Maybe a gelding? I'm not sure what your exact dream is and breeding is a lottery, but I know for most of you, you are just looking for a special horse. A horse you can grow with, learn with and have fun with, and I know by breeding to us you will achieve that goal.

We look forward to supporting you and helping you with anything you need in this journey. We are to help and we understand it is a big decision and can be overwhelming, so please reach out if you need us for any step of the way.

Hi and welcome to the Ultimate Guidebook to Your Friesian Breeding Success!I am so excited you are reading this and really look forward to meeting you in person, and helping you move forward in your friesian breeding dream.I understand it can be overwhelming at times, and there is a lot of information coming to you. That’s why we have created this resource for you, to hopefully answer every question you have, and to help you make an informed decision moving forward so you can ultimately achieve your dream friesian breeding objective. There are only 3 decisions you need to make!1. The first thing you need to do is to figure

out if you want to bring your mare to stud, or do AI with a skilled vet at home. We have put in “The Easy Breeding Guide” on pages 7-8 for these two options to be explained to you.

2. Then it’s time to go through all the stallions - Ebony Park have 4 very different stallions for you to choose from, and we also be chatting to you in your breeding consultation to help you choose the perfect stallion for your mare.

3. Deciding what will suit your budget best - a payment plan over 11 months, or an upfront payment.

Once you have made those decisions, we then process your application form and contract, which can be found on pages 25-49 (depending on what you have chosen and payment option) - this reserves the stallion of your choice to make sure you don’t miss out.

Then the fun starts, and we have three special gifts coming your way, as our way of saying thank-you for trusting us with your Friesian Dream! The three gifts are:1. Access to “The Complete Guide to

Horse Breeding Made Easy” which is a comprehensive look at everything involved from when you first breed your mare, to when your foal turns 3 years old and is ready to break in! Don’t worry - it’s all in easy to understand language!

2. A Friesian Experience with the stallion that you have chosen to breed to! This includes grooming whichever of our stallions your mare will be bred to, and a photo opportunity!

3. I can’t tell you anything about this one except that you will receive it in the post. . . so keep an eye on your letterbox!! :)

Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions you might have. It is very important here at Ebony Park to match the right horse for the right person, and that stretches to breeding the right horse with the right mare.

Kate Langdon

Chapter One: Choosing a Stud

Page 7: Ebony Park Ultimate Breeding Guidebook 2014

Ebony Park Performance Friesians | Breeding Brochure 2014 | Page 7

THE EASY BREEDING GUIDE – 7 EASY STEPS TO BREEDING YOUR MARE

STEP 1 – CHOOSE YOUR STALLIONYou must make sure the stallion you have chosen highlights your mares strengths and improves on her weaknesses…the stallion should be a complement to your mare. There are many ways to do this – staring at conformation photos, looking at inbreeding coefficients, deciding if the stallion and your mare will combine to make a foal that is suitable for your purposes... or, if you are breeding with Ebony Park, we will do this for you in your one on one private consultation.

STEP 2 – BOOK IN YOUR MARERead the contract carefully – some studs don’t have live foal guarantees, or you may pay for the semen rather than for a pregnancy. Ebony Park does offer a live foal guarantee, and you only pay the service fee once per pregnancy.

STEP 3 – FIND OUT WHERE SHE IS IN HER CYCLEIf you know when your mare is in season, watch for the signs, and the minute your mare starts to exhibit these signs, call your vet to get a scan. The signs are:

• Squatting and urinating when being teased – the tail will be held up high• Allowing the teaser stallion to approach and smell her (especially her back end!)• Winking of the vulva• Squealing when approached by the teaser• Behaving differently when you are riding her, or even just out in the paddock

If you don’t know when she is in season, that’s fine, just call your vet for a scan, and he/she will be able to tell you where the mare is in season and cycling appropriately!

STEP 4 - FIND OUT WHEN SHE IS GOING TO OVULATEFrom when your mare first starts to exhibit the signs she is in season, she will generally ovulate 3-5 days later. Call your vet to scan the mare for more exact times – the vet looks at follicle size (the follicles contain the eggs) and how the uterus looks to determine when she will ovulate. The vet will let you know when your mare will most likely ovulate and when you need to breed her. If you have left it too late and she is going to ovulate before you have a chance to inseminate her – don’t stress!! The vet will be able to tell you what to do – he may want to come back and give her drugs to bring her back in season faster. The vet also has drugs that can help her to ovulate sooner than she would naturally if needed – this is to ensure you have the best possible chance to get your mare pregnant!

Page 8: Ebony Park Ultimate Breeding Guidebook 2014

Ebony Park Performance Friesians | Breeding Brochure 2014 | Page 8

STEP 5 – ORDER SEMENSome studs collect only on certain days of the week and need 48 hours notice to collect and ship semen, Ebony Park collects every day of the week and requires only 24 hours notice.

STEP 6 – BOOK VET TO INSEMINATEBook your vet in for a time as soon after the semen arrives as possible so that they can inseminate the mare for you – your vet will be flexible, but will need some notice! Once the vet has inseminated your mare, it is a good idea to get them to come back and scan her the next day to make sure she has ovulated and has the best chance possible of falling pregnant. Some mares do not ovulate when they are expected to!!!

STEP 7 – PREGNANCY TESTWe suggest you get your vet out to pregnancy test at 16 days after insemination/ovulation – this is to make sure there are no twins! Another scan at 45 days is also ideal, as many pregnancies will terminate before this time, and this will give you a higher chance of successfully breeding your mare again in the same season!

Page 9: Ebony Park Ultimate Breeding Guidebook 2014

THE THREE STEP GUIDE TO GETTING YOUR MARE PREGNANT AT STUD

STEP 1 – DROP MARE OFFSTEP 2 – WAIT FOR POSITIVE PREG TEST CALLSTEP 3 – PICK MARE UP

The choice of whether you breed your mare at home with chilled semen, or bring her to the stud is a very personal one – there are pros and cons for each method! Think about your specific situation, and what is going to be best for you.

Some mares may not travel well, and tend to stress out when they leave the familiarity of your property or a particular horse they may share a paddock with. Some mares will already have a foal at foot and you may not want to risk travelling the foal so early in life. If this is the case, then you will probably want to have semen shipped to you from Ebony Park rather than inseminated fresh.

However, breeding with fresh semen ensures that your mare has the largest window of opportunity in which to ovulate as the semen will last longer when inseminated fresh! It also ensures that just the one person (the stud) is organizing everything – scanning, collecting and inseminating can be all timed so that your mare has the best chance of getting pregnant. Some stallions may have high quality fresh semen, but it does not chill or freeze well, and therefore has less chance of getting you mare pregnant. On the other end of the scale, some stallions need extender added to their semen in order to make it last long enough! The stud will also have a lot of experience with breeding, and will take the hassle out of you having to learn all of the ins and outs – you just have to hand the mare over and let them do all of the work!

There is also a negative side to shipping semen. You may need to take time off work to accommodate to when the vet can come out to scan or inseminate your mare, and lots of mares may not work exactly to the textbook, so this can be a time-consuming process. Vets don’t always run on time, as they are very busy during the breeding season and can’t always get to you when they say. Some mares are allergic to the extender we use to prolong the life of the semen, and will not get pregnant unless you inseminate them with fresh semen! The postal service, while usually good, does not always get semen to you on time – this does not often happen!

Shipping semen, however, allows you to keep the mare where she is without transporting all over the countryside, allows you to use your own vet, and means that you are able to get semen from a stallion who may be over the other side of the country!

Whichever process you choose, Ebony Park is here to discuss with you your personal needs and preferences, and help you to decide the best way for you and your mare to get a foal on the ground in a year’s time.

Ebony Park AbeAbe is currently competing and winning at the Grand

Prix level in 2012 and 2013 with consistent scores over 61%, improving with each competition!

Early in his career Abe was the horse to beat in Novice bringing home 3 Novice Championships

with scores up to 71%. He also took home an Advanced Championship in 2008 and competed

and qualified for the prestigious Dressage with the stars in the Grand Prix in 2012, and the Grand Prix and

Grand Prix Kur in 2013.

Abe is now established in Grand Prix and hasn’t disappointed, with scores up to 63.9%. This horse is continuing on a legendary Grand Prix career. Ebony

Park Abe is an exceptional stallion to ride. He is powerful and responsive and carries you through any

situation with pride and attitude.

To ride him is pure joy! He is solid, strong and powerful! Abe takes you into a test almost like a war horse taking you into battle. He is proud, noble and loves to show off

and be the centre of attention.

Born 29/03/2000, 16.2hh, jet black

imported Friesian ster stallion.

First Friesian stallion in Australasia to

compete and win at Grand Prix level in

dressage.

Abe has been awarded the sports predicate

from the KFPS. He is the first stallion in

Australia to achieve the award due to his

outstanding results in the dressage arena.

Ebony Park Dante

Dante is by Champion dutch stallion Norbert 444, who has won the prestigious Friesian Stallion Show in Holland for

the last 2 years in a row – 2012 and 2013. We imported his gorgeous mother, Ebony Park

Jantje from Holland, and within 2 months of his birth, Jantje was competed by Natasha, with

three floating paces and one of the easiest horses to ride! Dante looks to be a superb mixture of sire and dam – he is solid, strong and powerful, at the

same time being easy and willing to train.

Natasha says this stallion is the definition of ‘easy’ – you get on and do nothing, and the horse performs

exactly how you want underneath you. To handle he is quiet and obliging. He has great bloodlines and breed potential, and we can’t wait to breed him

for the first time this year for some gorgeous foals in 2015!

Dante started competing in 2013, and by spring of this year, we will be bringing him out medium!

Ebony Park ElkoUnfortunately, due to a paddock injury to his knee, Elko is no longer able to be ridden, and has been retired from the competition arena.

Ebony Park is extremely disappointed and upset by this incident, however we are very happy that he is still able to be bred, and has still retained his breeding permit (not something to be taken

lightly, as the KFPS are very strict about awarding breeding permits!). When Elko

was able to be ridden he was destined to be Natasha’s Olympic Grand Prix horse.

He had everything! Three amazing paces, the desire and trainable

temperament, and was quick to learn and improve. In his short career he scored up to

72% in preliminary and gained 44 grading points qualifying him for the 2006 Australian Dressage Championships in Novice in

only 2 months of competition.Born 21/04/2001, 17.1hh, jet black

Breeding Permit for 2014-2015Registration Number: 5280 0420 0305 315

Jorrit is an exceptional dressage stallion that made it through to the very prestigious 70 day performance test for approved stallions.  In the performance test

in Holland, Jorrit was within days of being approved as a stallion but a muscle strain hindered his

movement and was unfortunately eliminated late in the test.

He was also awarded a breeding permit from the KFPS when they came out for the 2013 Keuring. This is only awarded to very select Friesian stallions who

possess the desired characteristics of the breed. There are only a few Friesian stallions in Australia

that hold a current KFPS permit, and Ebony Park is very proud to offer Ebony Park Jorrit to the

discerning Friesian breeder. This permit is limited to only 20 mares so please book quickly and as early as

possible to avoid disappointment!

Initial: Date: / / DELIVERY

Page 26: Ebony Park Ultimate Breeding Guidebook 2014

Ebony Park Performance Friesians | Breeding Brochure 2014 | Page 26

We recommend that you keep us regularly updated with your progress so we may offer our help and advice. Standard chilled semen delivery is Tuesday to Friday. Extra transport costs are involved with semen delivery Saturday to Monday – and it is not always possible to deliver semen on these days. Also note that semen is on a first come, first served basis – every effort will be made to accommodate two bookings on the same day, but calling up on the morning semen is required may result in your booking coming in too late as we only collect each stallion once per day.

The stallions are only collected Monday to Friday between the hours of 1pm and 3pm unless otherwise arranged (for express post - couriers will need to be arranged with plenty of time to

spare).24 hours notice is required before semen can be dispatched.

Semen collection outside of these hours, i.e. Saturday or Sunday or without 24 hours notice will attract an extra $100.00 charge, and only if it is possible can we fulfill the request. Although we will do all we can to help with delivery, Ebony Park is not responsible for late or non-delivery of semen for any reason whatsoever. Delivery will be to the address on the order form unless otherwise specified. We will do our utmost to have the semen with you when you require it, but please remember that stallions are animals and not machines and very occasionally they do not wish to perform. Nor can we be responsible for adverse weather conditions affecting delivery - obviously we will always do all we can to get your mare in foal.

COVERING CERTIFICATEOnce your mare is in foal, and on completion of a veterinary certificate to confirm this we will forward you the covering certificate if you have requested a covering certificate.

INSURANCEPlease note that we do not insure semen. Although we have not had a problem to date you should be aware that once semen has been distributed it is no longer covered by us.

COLLECTION COSTSEbony Park charges a $220.00 collection fee which covers the time to collect from the stallion as well as all the materials required to process semen and prepare it for shipping.

You should be aware that once semen has been distributed it is no longer covered by us.

COLLECTION COSTSEbony Park charges a $220.00 collection fee which covers the time to collect from the stallion as well as all the materials required to process semen and prepare it for shipping. This also covers the shipping container, which is a use only once container that once used for your semen can be thrown away, thus removing the need to return the container to the stud, as well as shipping via express post. The first collection and shipment via express post is covered in the service fee. Subsequent collections and shipping via express post will be at the expense of the owner ($220.00 per collection). If the owner wishes to use a courier rather than express post, this will be at their own expense.

BREEDING SEASON The availability of the stallion may be subject to performance commitments. Please check the website www.ebonyparkstud.com or phone 0422 227 364.

TRANSPORTATIONAll costs associated with delivery and collection of semen that is being transported is to the owners account (for express post, this is covered in the service fee, but all other methods of delivery eg. courier, will be at the cost of the mare owner).

VETERINARY CONDITIONS(1) The mare owner will pay for all associated costs for chilled semen. These include transport and

freight costs. Neither Ebony Park nor any associated entity will accept responsibility for the safe and on time delivery of the chilled semen.

(2) A declaration for the attending vet or AI technician to sign will be sent with the chilled semen. This will include the full details of the mare that was inseminated. This form must be returned to Ebony Park before service certificates will be issued.

(3) The mare owner must forward to the stud within 60 days of the last service a veterinary certificate proving a positive pregnancy test for covering certificates to be supplied.

IN THE EVENT OF A NEGATIVE PREGNANCYAll efforts will be made during the breeding season to ensure that your mare gets in foal – Ebony Park pride ourselves on a high pregnancy rate per cycle from all of our stallions. However, in the event that a mare does not get pregnant during the 2014 breeding season, a refund of the service fee will be given to the mare owner in the form of a cheque. This amount will be the value of the service fee, minus the non-refundable booking fee.

LIVE FOAL GUARANTEEIn the event that a pregnant mare does not produce a live foal or the foal dies within 24 hours of the time of a birth the stud will offer a refund on the service fee minus the non-refundable booking fee as outlined above with negative pregnancies. This is only applicable with a Veterinary Certificate stating the mare was in good health and the result of the loss of foal was not due to neglect of the mare.

I have read and fully accept the “Terms and Conditions”.
