Thank you to everyone who has already made a

pledge to the 2018 Catholic Ministries Annual

Appeal (CMAA). Your gifts will benefit so many

through the thirty ministries our annual appeal

supports. Our Goal $106,700

Amount pledged $79,061

Amount paid $44,033

Our hope is that every parishioner will contribute as

partners in caring, as every gift — large and small —

makes a difference. If we raise more than our goal,

70% of the amount paid over goal will be returned to us

for our use. This is an amazing opportunity for our

parish!

Please prayerfully reflect on your pledge to this year’s

CMAA. In-pew envelopes are still available in the

church, or you can make a gift online at

jolietdioceseappeal.org.

We are Partners in Caring For our Future Shepherds

Studying at Mundelein Seminary is "a blessing and a challenge at the same time," says Deacon Max Behna, a seminarian from Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Naperville who will be ordained a priest for the Diocese of Joliet this year. "We're challenged to become the best men we can be - ultimately, the best Fathers we can be." The number of men preparing to serve as priests for the Diocese has increased from 20 to 43 over the past fourteen years - a tremendous blessing! These holy men spend as many as eight years in formation before ordination, costing an average of $40,000 per seminarian each year. This is a huge financial burden and without the CMAA, most would be unable to pursue their vocation. Your gift to the CMAA helps to provide the education and experience our men in formation need to become the best priests they can be.

Seniors It's reminder time.....St. Anthony's Seniors will meet at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Be sure to be ready to play our scavenger hunt. You might just be asked for that unusual item in your pocket or purse!! Fol lowing our meet ing and scavenger hunt we will enjoy cake and

coffee. Yum!! Remember to bring your singles because we will then play Bingo! Yes, you may bring a friend or two to join our group!! If anyone has a question, please call Patricia Backus @ 708-720-9321.

St. Vincent dePaul Society St. Anthony Conference

Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of

self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul will show the love of the Risen Christ by bringing your love to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.

Next Sunday, April 8 is our Food Pantry. Please help by bringing food supplies of non-perishable foods and daily need products, and/or your monetary gift envelope for collection during the Mass times. Your generosity is helping 45 families during their times of struggle. If you wish to participate in the St. Vincent DePaul Organization, stop in the hall to talk to one of the officers or members next Sunday. If you wish to help with set up for the food pantry, Call Rose Govert

815-464-5806 for time we will be setting up. All other information about St. Vincent DePaul, please call the office phone number 815-469-3750 x114. For SVDP clothing/household item pick up call 630-321-4658. Have a Blessed and Joyous Easter.

St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women Hosts

To Support Waterleaf Women’s Center

Thursday, April 12th at 6:30 p.m. Memenas Hall

You’re invited to join us in supporting Waterleaf Women’s Center by showering their clients with much needed baby and family items. Wish list items include diapers (size 4,5,6), onesies, receiving blankets in neutral colors, teething rings, rattles/soft toys, Target/Walmart gift cards, gas gift cards. Waterleaf Women’s Center is a pregnancy resource facility endorsed by the Respect Life Office of the Diocese of Joliet. Its mission is to assist men and women who consider abortion as their only option when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. With compassion and a non-judgmental approach, Waterleaf provides free counseling, medical services and educational materials to empower those individuals to choose life. The center also supports the Project Rachel Project ministry which helps those suffering from the aftermath of an abortion.

Mary Griffith, Development Director at Waterleaf will be here to give us more information on the center and tell us how we can help its mission to support Life. Hospitality and refreshments will be served. All are invited.

Catechist Corner Are there proofs for the Resurrection of

Jesus?

There are no proofs for the Resurrection of

Jesus in the scientific sense. There are,

however, very strong individual and collective

testimonies by a large number of contempo-

raries of those events in Jerusalem. The

oldest written testimony to the Resurrection

is a letter that St. Paul wrote to the

Corinthians around twenty years after Christ's

death: "For I delivered to you as of first

importance what I also received, that Christ

died for our sins in accordance with the

Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was

raised on the third day in accordance with the

Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas,

then to the Twelve. Then He appeared to

more than five hundred brethren at one time,

most of whom are still alive, though some

have fallen asleep" (1 Cor 15:3-6). Paul is

recording here a living tradition that was

present in the original Christian community

two or three years after Jesus' death and

Resurrection, when he himself became a

Christian on the basis of his own staggering

encounter with the risen Lord. The disciples

took the fact of the empty tomb (Lk 24:2-3)

as the first indication of the reality of the

Resurrection. Women, of all people, discov-

ered it - according to the law of that time they

were not able to testify. Although we read

about the apostle John that he "saw and be-

lieved" (Jn 20:8b) already at the empty tomb,

full assurance that Jesus was alive came

about only after a series of appearances. The

many encounters with the risen Lord ended

with Christ's Ascension into heaven. Never-

theless, there were afterward and there are

even today encounters with the living Lord:

Jesus Christ lives. (YOUCAT question 106)

Dig Deeper: CCC section (639-644)

We sometimes have a hard time under-

standing things that happen in life. For

example, we don't understand why a rela-

tionship ends, why someone gets sick, or

why someone chooses a particular person

as his or her friend. In the Gospel for

Easter Sunday, we encounter several

people who had a hard time understand-

ing what was happening in their lives. The

Gospel for Easter Sunday tells us that

Mary of Magdala thought that someone

had taken Jesus' body. The disciples did

not yet understand that Jesus had been

raised from the dead. During Lent we

prepared ourselves to remember and

celebrate Jesus' death and Resurrection.

During the season of Easter, the Church

asks us to reflect on Jesus' Resurrection

and what it means for us as His disciples

today. We can spend time during the

Easter season thinking about Jesus'

Resurrection and the gift of eternal life

that He gives to us.

Question for Children: Even the disciples

had a hard time understanding Jesus’

Resurrection – it is that surprising. What

does Resurrection mean to you? What

does Easter mean to you?

Question for Adults: In what ways has God

called you to die in Christ? How is this

expressed in your own life?

Educating yourself on Easter What does Easter have to do with eggs? For

the early Christians, eggs were a symbol of

the resurrection and eternal life in Christ. In

fact, Saint Mary Magdalene used the egg to

preach the Gospel to the Roman Emperor. In

the early days of Christianity, hen or duck

eggs were painted, and each color had a

meaning: Red = the blood of Christ, Ivory =

the shroud, Green = rebirth, Blue = the peace

of the Easter season, Yellow = the early light

of the day of resurrection, Purple = the pas-

sion of Christ (color of Lent).

THE RETURN OF EASTER The return of Easter should be to the Christian life the call of a trumpet. It is the news of a great victory. It is the solution of a great perplexity. It is the assurance of a great triumph. ~Frederick Temple

PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST On Easter morning everything—the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music—everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the

eyewitness accounts in today’s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing “Alleluia!” In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John’s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives?

Welcome To Our St. Anthony Community of Faith

The RCIA Class of 2018

ELECT:

Amy “Maggie” Land & Michael Mackowiak

CANDIDATES:

Marcos Corral & Margie Cox

It is with great joy that we welcome into St. Anthony Catholic Church these four individuals who, since

September, have been meeting on Tuesday nights at the Padua Center learning about what Catholics

believe and just what it means to be a “practicing Catholic”.

Over the last seven months they have read about & heard from different speakers from our parish on the fol-

lowing topics:

Faith, Scripture, Sacred Tradition, The Magesterium, The Mass, The Saints, Holy Days, Prayer, The Trinity, Ad-

vent, The Meaning of Christmas, The Liturgical Calendar, Mary, The After Life, Church Teachings on The Dig-

nity of Human Life, Peace & Social Justice, The Seven Sacraments, Lent, The Stations of the Cross, How to

Make Moral Decisions, Putting Your Faith into Action, Holy Week & The Triduum.

We concluded our course of study with a day-long retreat at the Franciscan Mother House in Frankfort. The

day was spent in prayer and reflection for our Elect, who would be baptized, and for our Candidates, who

would be completing their sacraments of initiation.

We congratulate our new brothers & sisters in Christ upon their entrance into our St. Anthony Community of

Faith and as a Faith Community we will continue to support them in prayer as they join us as fellow Catholics

in our common life long journey of Faith.

May God be with each one of us every day of our journey!

St. Anthony, pray for us!!

ALL ABOARD TO SPAIN/FRANCE AND THE PASSION PLAY IN OBERAMMERGAU!!! 12 DAYS IN SPAIN AND FRANCE

(including Barcelona, Montserrat, Lourdes, Carcassonne, Avignon, Nice and St. Paul de Vence) Departing September 2, 2019

We will begin our journey in Spain where we’ll visit the amazing monastery of Montserrat with its Shrine to the Black Madonna. In Barcelona, we’ll discover the diverse cultures of the inhabitants and conquerors of the past as they have left their imprint on the art, architecture, customs, religion, food, dance, dress and lifestyle of present-day Spain. Our adventure then crosses the Pyrenees Mountains to Lourdes, France. Our stay in Lourdes allows for a full day dedicated to visit the Shrine. We then continue to the medieval, walled town of Carcassonne. Later, we travel through Provence...visiting Avignon, the home to seven Popes in the 14th century, Nimes with its rich Roman Heritage, and the famous Pont du Gard (the Roman aqueduct) which is considered to be one of the all-time greatest engineering feats. Our adventure comes to a close as we motor to Nice and St. Paul de Vence. Here we will travel off-the-beaten-

path visiting the Provence of the Impressionists and will motor through areas where the passing centuries have left a

stunning architectural legacy—Roman amphitheaters and aqueducts, medieval castles, cathedrals and walled

cities.11 DAYS IN IMPERIAL AND ALPINE EUROPE (Including the 2020 OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY

(includes Hungary, Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic), Departing August 30th, 2020.

THE PROMISE

During the Thirty Years War the deadly plague raged throughout Europe, until in 1633 it reached even the

tiny Alpine village of Oberammergau. During the next six months, so many villagers died of the Black

Death, that the townspeople took a solemn Vow – if God would release them from the plague, they would

perform once every ten years the story of the Passion of Christ. From the moment the Vow was taken, no

one else in the village succumbed to the plague and so the first Passion play was performed in 1634.

What began as a single performance in the churchyard has developed over 380 years into a masterpiece of theater and music, with all the villagers involved either on stage or behind the scenes. For the Oberammergauers, the passion play is a labor of love and the Vow still has real meaning in their lives. And so they are now preparing for the Passion play of 2020.

HOSTED BY FR. RICHARD SMITH AND FR. JOHN SPONDER. All of the above programs are based

on flights from Chicago, include comprehensive sightseeing, many meals, a professional tour manager

and three and four star hotels.

AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING WILL BE HELD: SUNDAY MAY 6th, 2018 AT 1:00 PM (AFTER THE 12 NOON MASS) in the St. Anthony Room in the Padua Center.
