Eleven members of Norwich City FC Down’s Syndrome squad, along with parents, carers and CSF

sta� , made the long journey north to Tyneside last month for their autumn tour, thanks to funding from CSF's Sporting Light Appeal.

Highlights of the trip included a ground tour of St James’ Park (with a chance meeting with Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren!) and a visit to the iconic Angel of the North.

The trip’s � xture, which took place in Newcastle United’s � rst-team training dome against the Newcastle United

Foundation’s DS Active team, � nished four goals apiece.

Following their � xture, the team got the chance to watch the Canaries � rst-team in action against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. The team were also given the good news that the Pink Un’ Pickers, a Canaries supporter group, had generously donated twenty-two full Norwich City FC away kits to the team, which will be worn on future trips.

Among those travelling with the squad, was eighteen-year-old Sam Copeman who had the honour of bringing out the

match ball at the West Bromwich Albion � xture the following week, as the club’s Community Hero.

ON TOUR: NORTH-EAST FUN FOR DS TEAM

CSF and East Norfolk Sixth Form College launched a new partnership last month that will greatly enhance

the range of sports programmes and courses available to students in the region.

Special guest Declan Rudd joined College sta� and pupils as well as representatives from CSF at the College to help mark the occasion. The event o� cially con� rmed the new ‘CSF Hub’ status of the College, which will see two new football-based courses o� ered to students from September 2016: an Elite Boys’ Football programme and a Girls’ Futsal scholarship programme, which will be the � rst of its kind in the region.

Declan Rudd re� ected: “As someone who grew up in Norfolk, it’s great to see � rst-hand these new opportunities being given to local footballers, which support

not just their football development but their education too.”

Ian Thornton, Director at CSF added: “This exciting new chapter in our relationship will see innovative programmes give a new generation of

local talented young people additional avenues to develop excellence not just on the � eld of play but o� it too. Through this partnership, CSF, Norwich City Football Club and the College can continue to inspire young people through sport for many years to come.”
