disability celebration at club - norwich city matchday programme

A special evening laid on at Carrow Park last month gave participants on a Community Sports Foundation (CSF) disability programme the chance to celebrate their achievements with family, friends and CSF staff. The participants, all from Assist Trust - an adult disability centre based in Norwich - were invited by the Foundation to the evening as a reward for successfully completing the ‘On Your Marks, Get Set, Go’ programme. Over the course of a few months last year, the participants raised money for CSF’s Sporting Light Appeal through a community project they helped to organise, plan and deliver, under guidance from CSF disability coaches. A total of over £500 was raised by the group, through a bag pack at supermarket chain Morrisons and a ‘Cream Tea and Scone Day’ held at the Assist Trust centre in Norwich. The programme, which is funded and delivered by CSF, runs annually and aims to develop three key areas for participants: communication, teamwork and leadership skills. To aid with group bonding, the participants also enjoyed a three night residential at Kingswood outdoor activity centre in Overstrand, where they took part in a number of exciting team-building activities including high ropes, bushcraft and archery. The money raised through the community project was also used to help fund a new football kit for the Assist Trust football team. At the celebration evening, CSF Disability Officer Darren Hunter presented the kit to Charles Moore, Support Coordinator at Assist Trust. The team will wear the new football kit for the next Aviva Grand Prix League, a monthly tournament run by CSF with funding from Club sponsor Aviva. Darren Hunter concluded: “The evening was put on as a thank you to them for all their efforts and dedication throughout. “They were a fabulous group to work with and put their heart and soul into all aspects of the project.” The Foundation wishes to thank Ray Humphries, who runs the Great Yarmouth Gateway Club, for kindly volunteering his services as resident DJ for the evening. A special evening laid on at Carrow Park last month gave participants on a Community

Sports Foundation (CSF) disability programme the chance to celebrate their achievements with family, friends and CSF staff.

A total of over £500 was raised by the group, through a bag pack at supermarket chain Morrisons and a

‘Cream Tea and Scone Day’ held at the Assist Trust centre in Norwich.

At the celebration evening, CSF Disability Officer Darren Hunter presented the kit to Charles Moore,

Support Coordinator at Assist Trust.

The team will wear the new football kit for the next Aviva Grand Prix League, a monthly tournament run by CSF with funding from Club sponsor Aviva.

Darren Hunter concluded: “The evening was put on as a thank you to them for all their efforts and dedication throughout.

“They were a fabulous group to work with and put their heart and soul into all aspects of the project.”

The Foundation wishes to thank Ray Humphries, who runs the Great Yarmouth Gateway Club, for kindly volunteering his services as resident DJ for the evening.
