    combination of people, hardware, software

communication networks and dataresources that collects, transforms

and disseminates information in an organization

    Transaction ProcessingSystems

TPS are aimed at improving the routine

business activities on which all organizationsdepend. A transaction event or activity thataffects the organization. Commontransactions include that occur vary from

organization to organization. Howevervirtually all firms process transactions as amajor part of their daily business activities.

    Example:-

In case of Railway ticket reservation system, the TPS

data contains the location of available seats, in case of

an order, this data contains a list of products available

for sale, their prices and related data.TPS program generates two types of outputs-

    1) It sends message back to the operator terminal

    2) It generated printed documents.

    Types of TPS:-

There are two fundamental types of TPS:

    1. On-line Systems

    (online transaction processing)

    2. Batch Systems

    (Batch transaction processing)

    Transaction Processing is

    the set of procedures for

    handling the transactions:

    Common activities include:

    1. Calculation2. Classification

    3. Sorting

    4. Data Retrieval

    5. Summarization

    each f i rm :-

    1. There is high volume transactions.

    2. Each transaction is similar.

    3. The procedures for the transaction are well under

understood and can be described in detail.

    4. Few exceptions to the normal procedures occur.

    KnowledgeWork System(KWS):-

KWS such as scientific or engineering design workstation,

promote the creation of new knowledge and ensure that new

knowledge and ensure that new knowledge and technical

expertise and properly integrated into the business.

Limitation of expert system Knowledge in not always readily available

It is hard, even for a highly skilled expert to abstractgood situational assessment when he is under timepressure.

The vocabulary that experts use for expressing factsand relations is frequently limited.

The approach of each expert to situational assessmentwhen he is under time pressure.

Most expert have no independent means of checkingwhether their conclusions are reasonable.

    1. It is computer based I.S. that Collect, Process, Store

and Transmit e-messages, documents and other

forms of communications among individuals, work

    groups and organizations.

    2. O.A.S. increases the productivity of managerial

end users and other professional and staff

Word Processing:-It is the use of computer system toAutomate the transformation of ideas into a readable form

    of communication.

Desktop Publishing:-It is used by organization to design &

print their own newsletters, manuals, brochures and books

with several type styles, graphics and colors on each page.

    Image Processing System

Image Processing:-It allows end-users to electronically

capture, store, process and retrieve images of documents

that may include numeric data, text, handwriting, graphics

and photographs also known as Electronic Image

    Management.

Electronic Document Management:-It is based on Image

processing technology that views a document as

something that has been authored for humancomprehension

Interactive Video System:-It integrates image processing

with text, audio and video processing technologies.

    E-Mail:-

    Advantages of e-mail are-

    Instant Distribution

    Unlimited Distribution

    Better Time Management

    Easy Implementation

E-meeting System(EMS):-It involves the use of video,

audio communications to allow conferences &

meetings to be held with participants who may be

scattered across a room, a building or country or the

globe. It also promotes GDSS (Group Decision
