COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND ATHLETICS 2014-15 ANNUAL REPORT 01
Dear Dolphins Fans,
At the College of Staten Island, we measure the success of our student-athletes in three different areas – in the classroom, in competition, and in the community – and I am truly proud to report that our student-athletes continue to excel in all three areas.
First and foremost, our student-athletes continue to receive recognition for their outstanding academic performances. Sixty-two of our student-athletes were named to the CUNYAC All-Academic Team and four student-athletes received additional distinction as CUNYAC Honorable Mention Scholar-Athletes of the Year. We emphasize the importance of academic success and I credit our coaches for recruiting top student-athletes.
On the playing fields, CSI Athletics finished second in the CUNYAC Commissioner’s Cup, which is awarded to the top overall athletics program and based on championship standings for all sports. In one of the closest standings in history, our athletics programs
won six CUNYAC Regular Season Championships and five CUNYAC Tournament Championships.
Additionally, our men’s basketball program successfully completed its journey to capture back-to-back ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament Championships. I continue to have high expectations for all of our athletics programs and expect to build on our three NCAA Tournament appearances this past year.
I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). SAAC continues to strengthen our relationships within the community and our student-athletes embrace several opportunities to get involved throughout the academic year. Whether it is managing a toy drive and delivering gifts to the local children’s hospital or raising awareness and funds for breast cancer, our student-athletes continue to lead by example and positively impact the Staten Island community.
I recognize that the condition and reputation of our athletics facilities are vital to the recruiting process and it is important to keep our facilities in the best conditions possible. I am very excited to share our most recent updates and our future plans as we continue to enhance our facilities. Earlier this year, we received a $1 million grant to resurface the entire track and expand the current bleachers to accommodate an additional 500 spectators. The grant will also allow us to start both men’s and women’s track and field programs. Beginning next year, our soccer fields will undergo a $2 million transformation to install new Field Turf and state-of-the-art bleachers, lighting, and a press box to improve the fan experience at our soccer games.
As you can see, it is an exciting time here at CSI. I challenge all of our alumni and friends to get involved and support the positive endeavors of our student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. Whether it is by making a financial contribution, attending and sponsoring a special event, or cheering on our Dolphins at an upcoming game, there is no shortage of ways for you to get involved.
As Director of Athletics, I am committed to helping the College of Staten Island become a top-tier athletics program and compete for CUNYAC Championships in our 14 varsity sports.
Your generosity and dedication are paramount to our success. Together, we will continue to elevate the profile of CSI Athletics and provide our student-athletes with the best opportunities to reach their fullest potential.
As always, thank you for your continued support of CSI Athletics and Go Dolphins!
