At our October meeting Decorating Den encouraged us to express our personal style by showing us dramatic before and after pictures of beautiful bedrooms, fun family rooms, elegant dining rooms and spicy kitchens!
In November as we begin our holiday celebrations, our members will attend a wine tasting at Wine Styles, where we will learn about the various types of wines. This year our holiday party promises to bring adventure to our lives! We are celebrating at Tapas Capriccio where the expected, is the unexpected. We are looking forward to sharing this exciting adventure together!
Remember, CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community, so all funds raised will go right back to the community in scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well. Membership in the CWC is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ at 7:00p.m. for social time and refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is located at Queenston and West Road.
If there are any adventurous ladies out there, that love to have fun and would like to participate in giving back to the community, we encourage you to come join us! Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you! As you are probably aware, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office patrols the neighborhood of Copperfield. With concerns for the safety of numerous children playing in the area, people jogging, the driver of motor vehicles in the area, as well as the fact it is a violation of the State of Texas Traffic/Transportation Code, the following issues are of concern to residents of Copperfield as well as that of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Department has initiated a traffic initiativefor Copperfield with a zero tolerance policy.
• (1) Running of Stop Signs – Remember your vehicle must come to a COMPLETE STOP prior to proceeding from a stop sign. – If you are caught not coming to a complete stop, you will receive a traffic citation (ticket).
• (2) Speeding – There are speed limit signs posted on all major roadways (Longenbaugh, Queenston Boulevard and West Rd.). The speed limit within the villages of Copperfield is 30 mph unless otherwise posted. – If you are caught traveling in excess of the posted speed limit, you will be subject to receiving a traffic citation (ticket). Please adhere to the posted speed limits.
• (3) Roadside Parking – Please remember that in parking along the side of the roadway (in areas where it is not posted “No Parking”), vehicles should be parked in the direction of the flow of traffic for the side of the roadway of which they are parking, and vehicles should not be more than 18 inches from the curbside. In addition, vehicles should not be within: 15 feet of a fire hydrant, 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection, or 30 feet from a stop sign.Let’s look out for one another. Stop at the stop signs. Adhere to

The Langham Creek Cheerleaders hosted over 1300 beautifully dressed guests at their fabulous Homecoming extravaganza on Saturday, October 1, 2011. The Berry Center came alive with spirited decorations highlighting the “Let It Roll” theme and great music and fun. Thank you to all the cheer parents and LCHS administrators who worked to create this special evening for the students.
When the cheerleaders were not working on Homecoming, they could be found on the sidelines of several of the LC volleyball games. LCHS Cheerleading is year round – they represent and support all the best Langham Creek has to offer. Thank you, Cheerleaders, for your tireless efforts!
Next on the agenda is competition season. The cheer squad will be working on a routine that they will take to two different competitions in the spring. In the midst of that, they will be in the gyms supporting our various Lobo basketball teams. Go Lobos!

Stuffed Animal DriveThe Compass Rose Girl Scout
Service Unit is sponsoring a New Stuffed Animal Drive for the Houston Police Department in November and December at area schools. Information about collection dates will be distributed in the coming weeks.
This third annual drive was a Girl Scout service project initiated by Julia Marie Briggs, who passed away unexpectedly in May, 2009, at the age of 13. Julia was an active athlete at Hamilton Middle School, Captain of the Cy-Fair Iron Maidens Lacrosse Team and a busy Girl Scout. As a Cadette scout, Julia was working to earn her Silver Award by organizing a service project for the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division. She saw a need to comfort young children who were involved in homicide cases, whether as witnesses or even suspects. Julia arranged a new stuffed animal drive that was to kick off in December 2009. Within days of her passing, her Lacrosse team members and Girl Scout troop members decided that they would finish this project in her honor. With thousands of new stuffed animals collected each year, this worthy project continues today.
Please watch for information from your school about upcoming collection dates. Collections also will be held at Compass Rose Girl Scout events in November and December and at the Cy-Fair Burning Flower Lacrosse Classic tournament, named in Julia’s honor, in early December. Consider donating new stuffed animals in memory of a young woman and her promise and in honor of young children in need.

What is CFIMLAX?The answer is Cy-Fair Iron Maidens Lacrosse.
The Iron Maidens were formed about ten years ago and have an impressive resume for the short time the program has been in existence. The Iron Maidens Varsity program has been runner-up in state the past two years and will be led by a senior-rich squad during the 2011-2012 season. The Middle School program is instrumental in developing the younger players and preparing them for the high school level. The Iron Maidens also offer programs for girls as young as 3rd grade.
Lacrosse is considered to be North America’s oldest sport and was originated by the North American Indian. Youth Lacrosse in America is the fastest growing segment of the sport and High School Lacrosse is seeing phenomenal growth compared to other sports.
The high school teams practice at Bleyl Middle School and the middle school and youth practice at the Coles Crossing Fields. The regular season takes place in the spring and the teams compete in tournaments during the fall. The Iron Maidens attend the Halloween Shootout (Dallas Area) each fall and take 4-5 teams to play in the different age groups.
In December every year the Iron Maidens host the Burning Flower Tournament. The 2011 tournament will be held December 3rd -4th at Cullen Park (19008 Saums Rd., Houston TX). This tournament has taken on a more special meaning in recent years as we honor the memory of one of our former players. On May 30, 2009, thirteen year-old Julia Marie Briggs, a former Iron Maiden, suddenly and very unexpectedly passed away from Mediastinal Lymphoma (a very rare and aggressive cancer). Prior to her passing, Julia was beginning her quest to attain the Silver Award for Girls Scouts. Her idea was to gather stuffed animals for the Houston Police Department for homicide detectives to give to children to hold for comfort in times of crisis. Please come out to see some fantastic girl’s lacrosse and donate stuffed animals to support the Houston Police Department.

CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR NEWSOctober winds blew a flurry
of activity for our young men and women. Beginning with our women’s PJ Party on the 7th. They decorated (and ate) sugar cookies, created perfect nails, made friendship bracelets and ate pizza!!! Make over’s provided by Natasha Manly were stunning! The women got to know each other better and their beauty radiated inside and out.
The annual Fall Concert was fabulous and well attended on the 11th. The students voices filled the air with a joyous noise and helped to officially ring in our autumn notes.
Our Italian themed dinner theatre was a delight! Grazie Mandola’s for the fabulous Italian fare! While feasting, the silent auction was fun as well as helpful for raising funds for our many upcoming events. Our Men and Women wowed the audience with song as well as Labay and Truitt Middle Schools. We thank our many contributors for our auction items: students, parents, Art Class/Wine Glass, Pampered Chef, Houston Astros and Stokes Hardware, just to name a few.
Varsity Mens Pictures were taken at the Battleship of Texas for our upcoming Texas Music Educators Association participation. This honor will take place in early 2012. In addition, we would like to announce an impressive number of our choir students were selected for the District choir. This is an auditioned selection and to have 30 speaks well for our music direction! Also, Mission Burrito on hwy 6 is on the 15th. Tell them you are with the choir as we receive a generous 25% of your food total! Take a night off and let someone else do the cooking!
A big round of applause to all our volunteers for whom we would not operate. Thank you for your time selling tickets, handing out programs, baking treats, escorting and chaperoning, driving here and there as well as just plain having fun with our children. CY-FAIR KIWANIS CLUBThe 2011-2012 Board of directors and officers were installed at
the October 4 meeting by Gwen Branch, Texas-Oklahoma District Lt. Governor. New officers are Andrew Lawrence, President; Louis Iselin, Vice-president; George Crowl, secretary; James Meadows, treasurer; immediate Past President, Steve Gleinser; and members of the Board: Paula Hoffman, Mike Larivee, Peggy Presnell, Tasmina Quddus, and Jeff Savois.
The Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club meets at Hearthstone Country Club on the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at 12:15 for lunch and informative programs.
