Our February meeting turned out to be great fun! We quickly took care of business and went on to play Boncomania! We definitely had Lady Luck in our club that night! The prizes were fabulous and everyone had a great time.

In March we are looking forward to visiting with Sherry Eichberger with “One Green Street”. She will educate us on cosmetics that are actually good for us! Our ladies have overwhelmingly indicated that they are interested in learning more about Healthy Eating, Medical Spa Treatments and just staying healthy over all, so our upcoming programs will involve all of these areas. So, if you are interested in starting off the year in the right direction, please come join us. The more, the merrier!!

CWC is a service organization that gives back to the community. This means that all funds raised will go right back to the community in the form of scholarships for graduating high school seniors, at Lone Star College, Cy-Fair and grants to other non-profits in our community, as well.

Membership into the Cy-Fair Women’s Club is open to all ladies in Northwest Houston/Cypress neighborhoods. Currently we meet the first Thursday of most months at West Houston Church of Christ. Our meetings begin with social time and refreshments at 7:00p.m. immediately followed by a program at 7:30p.m. The church is located at the corner of Queenston and West Road.

Our monthly meetings are not only educational and enjoyable, but they develop lasting fellowships. We look forward to meeting you there! If you have any questions about our club or need directions to the church, please contact Susan McLeroy, Membership Chair at [email protected].

Thank you,Rosie Serrano

OVERPASS PROJECT:On Feb. 27, 2009, the Overpass Project was

defeated. We fought for three years to keep TXDOT from building a freeway overpass in the community of Copperfield (SH6 over FM529). We felt that this was a project that would hold negative impact to our community, both residential and business. We believed that it was not the correct solution to deal with the congestion of that intersection.

We developed an alternative solution (which can be seen on our website) to deal with the heavy flow of traffic through this intersection. During our pursuit to keep the overpass from being built, we presented our plans to TXDOT. As of right now, TXDOT is strongly considering our plans and/or something very similar.

LONGENBAUGH TREES PROJECT:On Arbor Day 2010, (April 30) many trees were cut

down on Longenbaugh for the redesign and adding of lights to Longenbaugh. The Coalition worked with Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack’s office of Precinct 3 to address the loss of so many trees.

On February 28, 2011, the Copperfield Coalition and the County Project Engineer did walk, mark and assist with the placement of 38 Oak trees along the Longenbaugh Corridor from SH6 to Royal Gardens. The tree planting project on Longenbaugh completed on March 25, 2011.

18 Wheelers Parked on Residential Streets:For several years 18 wheelers were parked on both

sides of Sonnet Glen Lane, a residential street on the outskirts of Copperfield.

Copperfield Coalition- (Continued from Cover Page)

On October 6, 2011, the Copperfield Coalition met with Captain Glesmann, Lieutenant Reeves, and Sgt. Breaux of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. As an outcome of this meeting, the Sheriff Department developed a strategy to address this problem.

As of November 27, 2011, there have been no trucks observed parking on Sonnet Glen Lane or anywhere else in the vicinity. We believe that it will remain that way indefinitely.

CURRENT PROJECTS:

THE LONGENBAUGH PROJECT:This is a lane modification project on

Longenbaugh at SH6. We want to reduce the number of lanes at the intersection from 4 to 3 lanes. It would consist of two dedicated left turn lanes and the right lane being a straight/right turn lane. We would then have enough room to reinstall a green

median with shrubs and a flower bed.STORM WATER DRAINAGE:

We are working with the 6 Municipal Utility Districts in Copperfield, Harris County and Harris County Flood Control to find a solution for the excessive amount of high water in our roadways after a heavy rain.

CELL PHONE TOWERS:This project concerns the Cell Phone

Towers that have been built on Cy-Fair school property and at the YMCA. Our concerns are for the safety of our children, the aesthetics and the effects it will have on our property values.

SH6 MOBILITY:This is a joint venture between the

Houston-Galveston Area Council and TX-DOT, to improve safety and traffic flow on Highway 6. We are working with both entities to ensure a smart solution for Copperfield. They are currently planning

for raised medians to be installed from I10 to 249.

Please view our website for the details on our current projects, information and important meeting announcements. CopperfieldCoalition.COM

Bailadora NewsBailadora NewsWhile preparing for contest season, the Bailadoras

have also made some time for fun. The girls and their moms attended the annual Mother Daughter Banquet in December. That event featured the senior girls modeling formals from Muzzies. Seniors are pictured above. In February the Bailadoras and their dates enjoyed a memorable evening at their annual formal “A Night in New York”. The girls are now focused on contest season which will culminate with a trip to Hawaii to perform on the U.S.S. Battleship Missouri in Pearl Harbor during Spring Break.

BAILADORA SPRING SHOW! Be sure to mark your calendars to attend the Annual Bailadora Spring Show ~ Glitz, Glam, and A Touch of Class. The show will be held on Friday, April 27th and Saturday April 28th at 7pm in the Langham Creek Auditorium. Come see the Bailadoras perform their award winning competition dances. Make an impact.

Shoot for a CureThe Langham Creek High School girls basketball team hosted the first

“Shoot for a Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness game on Friday Dec 16, 2011 against Stratford High School. The basketball team held a bake sale, pink lemonade stand, breast cancer awareness station, and sold t shirts. The girls bought pink basketball shoes and were pinked out with even pink eyeliner. J The girls raised $800 and all the proceeds from the game go to “Causes for a Cure” which is a 503C charity to help find the cause of breast cancer. It is founded by Betty Sommer, the mother of a Lowery teacher (Stacey Gaecke), who passed away in 2010 of breast cancer. More information on the foundation can be found at www.causesforacure.org

It is wonderful to see the Lobos make a difference in our community.

LCHS Cheerleaders Winand Larry the Lobo Rocks!

Congratulations to the Langham Creek Cheerleaders for taking first place in the high school division at the United Cheer Texas Open Championship held in Katy on February 5, 2012. The girls also came home with the award for Best Choreography! There was a fantastic turnout to watch their performance and the Lobo fans were not disappointed. Way to go, Girls!

Congrats go out to our own Josh Attra as well. Josh is our phenomenal Larry the Lobo who has been electrifying different events all year. He was invited to perform as Larry the Lobo during a Rockets halftime on January 17th. We always knew he was great, and now so does a whole new audience! Thanks for your outstanding contribution to our school, Josh!
