NOMINATIONS for the youthcategories of the Canberra AreaTheatre (CAT) Awards have beenannounced and the Highlands iswell represented.

The awards provide recogni-tion of the contribution made bynon-professional groups to theartistic life of Australia and, inparticular, of Canberra and theregion (which includes theCentral West and South Coast),and encourage individuals inthe performing arts.

The Highlands has tradition-ally done well in these awards.Last year Michael Turczynskiwon best actor in a featured rolein a play (Fawlty Towers) andDavid Preston won best actor ina leading role in a play (TheImportance of Being Earnest)and in 2013 Chevalier picked upseveral awards for their produc-tion of Grimm Tales.

This year local schools and

youth theatre groups havereceived many nominations,and Isabel Clarke has been nom-inated for best actress in two dif-ferent roles.

In addition to these nomina-tions, Oxley College has also hada group piece selected for theOnSTAGE Drama Showcase inSydney, February 2016.Wasteland, featuring MoniqueTurczynski, Samara Low,Antonia Ryman and ChristianLake, will be performed duringthe HSC showcase in Februarynext year.

The school is also celebratingthe selection of works byMonique Turczynski and GraceNaughton as part of theArtExpress exhibition. Gracewill be exhibited in theGlasshouse Gallery in PortMacquarie and Monique will beexhibited in Hazelhurst GalleryGymea, Wollongong RegionalGallery and the GlasshouseGallery Port Macquarie.
