PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
So spring has sprung. Wish someone would tell whoever controls the
weather because I’m going to my grandchildrens’ sporting events dressed
like it’s winter! It would really be nice if we could put a few nice days
together. I’m not asking for beach weather quite yet but a few consecutive
days of sunshine in the mid 70’s would be nice.
That being said, 16 members of Club Corvette in 10 Corvettes did take
advantage of a partly sunny day and cruised up to Corvette Mike’s new location in MA. We
were met by Elaine Kemp who gave us a quick tour of the new facility and allowed us to
wander and gaze upon the 30 or so Corvettes on display. (I believe there’ll be more about this
trip in this month’s newsletter.) If you don’t know or have never met Elaine, take a minute at
our upcoming CCC show and seek her out. Maybe wait until she’s done cleaning her beautiful
Z06 and then introduce yourself to Ms. Corvette New England. Elaine is one of those
individuals who lives, eats and breathes Corvettes. Each month as the clubs throughout New
England finish up their newsletters they’re sent to Elaine who then distributes them to all the
other clubs. It’s Elaine who is the gatekeeper of all Corvette news. If it’s important, whether
someone has a car for sale or someone is in need of technical help, it’s Elaine who gets the
word out. Now I know she’s going to be embarrassed and say that it’s nothing, but a “Thanks
Elaine for all you do” is in order.
The Club picnic is coming up fast and I hope to see many of you there. It’s always a good time
and of course there is plenty of food. So come on out to Hammonasset State Park on June 11,
bring a lawn/beach chair and enjoy a great day of comradery with your fellow Club members.
This is one event you don’t want to miss. A shout out to Stan and Mary and all the members
who help put this all together. If you’re over 65 be sure and get your Charter Oak Pass. It’s
free and gets you into most state parks at no cost. You can get one right at the main gate of
the park.
The weather can only get better, so get out there and cruise in your pride and joy and don’t
forget to wave!
Peace,
Jack Stacey

CCC MEMBER STEVE LUDWIG WINS THE GOLD
Steve Ludwig traveled to
Steamboat Springs, Colorado, to compete in
the Nastar National
Championships in ski racing.
Having placed first twice
and second twice in the Silver Division, Steve has
moved up to the Gold Division.
"I had low expectations
but was able to win Gold this year in a tougher
division - a total surprise." It was two
days of racing against
the best qualifiers in the country, divided by age
group. There were two runs each day and each person’s best times were averaged for their final score.

BEN LaCROIX’S LOVE OF BASEBALL – by George Macary
I want to take this opportunity to express
my gratitude to all of you Club members
that responded to my message on April 13
in support of my grandson Benjamin. For
those of you that don’t know what I am
talking about, let me give a brief
background.
Several Club members know Ben from the
days when he participated in some of our
Club events: parades, Toy Cruise,
Branford Dining Room, and others. Since
those days, and as Ben grew, his
participation in CCC events diminished but he passed down his Club support to younger
brother Matthew.
What has not diminished in Ben’s life is his love for Baseball. He started that aspect of
his life at age 5, hitting the ball off the “T.” Fast forward, and I do mean “fast” - all you
grandparents know what I am talking about. Every year for the past fifteen years Ben
has played baseball. He still hits the ball off a “T” but now it is to sharpen his skills at
the college level. Ben just completed his sophomore year of baseball at Western New
England University in Springfield, MA, and what a year it has been! His school is part of
the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) of 10 teams.
Some of you periodically ask me, “How’s Ben doing?” so without going into the details of each game I’ll summarize his year this way: in 13 games his school listed him as a top
performer. In one week he was selected CCC Player of the Week, batting .375 with multi-hit games including 2 doubles, a triple, a home run, 13 RBI’s, scored 18 times and
stole 2 bases. Ben was also selected to the CCC all-conference first team and he is first in CCC home runs (5), RBI’s (35).
Now where did all of your support came into play? Ben was nominated in a national
competition, along with five other players from around the country, for the honor of being selected “Baseball Hero of the Week.” I put out my message of April 13 and you
all responded with votes which helped Ben receive a total of 400 votes, surpassing his nearest competitor, a player in PA at 374 votes. Enough said. Am I starting to sound
like a PROUD GRANDPA? YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT I AM !!! Once again, thank you all for
your support. Maybe someday we will be able to take a bus cruise to Yankee Stadium where Ben will get us free seats in a section reserved for Club Corvette. Sorry Jack, we
may still let you come but you’ll have to wear a NY hat!!!

SARATOGA SPRINGS – by Ken Uliano
Win/Place/Show… In my whole life I never thought I’d need to know these terms, but
understanding their meanings sure would have come in handy last Friday night, May 5,
at the Saratoga Casino and hotel.
Our long weekend for Barb and me started on Thursday morning when we started out
from home in Stratford and drove our C5 convertible to Saratoga Springs, NY. The sun
was out so I felt optimistic and I threw my clubs in the trunk with our suitcase, figuring I
might be able to get in a round on our “free” time. FREE TIME!! What free time?
We arrived at the Gideon Putnam Hotel about noon. What a great place – it was built in
1935 and the only description that comes to mind is stately but with all the amenities of
today. And it was just walking distance from the car museum.
We got our first card for the poker run, had lunch at the hotel, and did some exploring.
Cars from all over, including Canada, starting rolling in so we had to go take a look. By
then it was time to get ready for the “meet and greet barbeque” in the Hotel Portico.
The Buffet dinner was fantastic. We met more new friends and caught up with Club
members that we seldom see but always enjoy. After dinner we were introduced to a
game called “Left/Right/Center.” Barb played and had a great time.
On Friday morning we all headed to the Saratoga Battlefield to get a history lesson
about how important the victory truly was. It was the first time in history that an entire
British army (more than 7000 solders) had to surrender to what was at the time not
even another country, but what the Brits thought was just a bunch of rebels. It turned
out to be the turning point of the war because that victory convinced the French to join
us, which cemented our freedom and made the Brits have to defend other areas of the
world.
After that we “trotted” over to the National Horse Racing Museum. We got another card
for the “Poker Run.”
Then we “loped” over to the Saratoga Winery - just in time because we were all thirsty
by then. We got our third poker card. By that time we had to get ready to go en masse
to the Harness Race Track at the Saratoga Casino and Hotel for another great buffet
dinner.
On Saturday morning we “cantered” over to the car museum to see more beautiful cars,
although NOT ONE VETTE. Go figure. Then we got another card.
It was getting near lunch time and we were nearly 40 miles from Lanzi’s on the Lake so
we used a bit of horsepower and made it in plenty of time. Barb stopped counting
Corvettes after 85. We had a great view of the lake.
After that we did a little sightseeing and headed downtown.
Pag

Saturday evening’s festivities started with the Kentucky Derby. Some ladies even
brought hats and Randy Flock was all decked out in his jockey outfit. I hope someone
has a picture of him. We had another great dinner, future trips were discussed, and the
results of the poker run were presented. Barb and I had 3 queens and never even got
close to winning a prize.
Thank you Randy for the great effort!
Lastly, two years ago when we got our C5, Barb and I thought that the car was going to
be the fun part. Little did we know that the real fun was Club Corvette of CT.

APRIL 29 CRUISE TO CORVETTE MIKE’S NEW LOCATION
by Linda Ungerleider (Additional facts provided by Jack Stacey and Don Byrne.)
We had perfect weather cruising to Corvette Mike's with 10 Corvettes and 16 members.
We were greeted by Corvette owner and Corvette Mike’s sales person, Elaine Kemp. There were approximately 30 new and used Corvettes on display, ranging from a ’78
Pace Car with only 5 miles on it to new C7’s. It was explained that Corvette Mike's has an arrangement with a local Chevrolet dealer in which the dealer sends brand new
Corvettes to Mike's for display and sale. When purchased, the sale takes place at the
dealership. The idea is that Mike's gets more foot traffic and has more Corvette knowledge than the dealership.
While we were on the tour of the facility, Elaine and I realized we had something in
common besides our passion for America's best muscle/sports cars. She and I were both Airforce kids, living in many locations and attending many schools with families
committed to serving this country.
Jack and Dennis brought in pizza and salads and it was a nice day trip. Thanks to our leaders for putting it together.
If you weren't at the May meeting you didn't hear this story. I left Corvette Mike’s an
hour earlier than Jack and Dennis. On their way home they saw a Corvette and said, “That looks like Linda's car.” I waved as they went by like a bat out of hell and then they
disappeared. Apparently I got into Facebook longer than I realized and I think it took me
3 hours to get home.
I can't emphasize enough to new members - join us. It's a group of the best souls. We support each other in good times and tough times and we have a lot of fun. If you are
solo, ladies or gentlemen, you won’t feel excluded. Don't miss out on a great Club with lots of events. As we cruise in numbers, it's always fun to see the reaction from people
in cars along the way.
Save the wave!

VERON RONDO OSTERIA – by Sandy Hague
Sandy and Jack Hague hosted an all-you-
can-eat Italian feast at Viron Rondo Osteria
in Cheshire on April 30. The dinner started
with calamari and mother’s chips, proceeded
to salad, pastas, chicken dishes, and
roasted vegetables and ended with tiramisu.
Sandy and Jack were joined in the feast by
Club members Don Byrne and Ana Covey,
Bob and Robin DeAngelis, Linda and Rod
DeFord, John and Audrey Giorgio, Stan and
Mary Griskewicz, Kori and Walt Kaercher, Roy and Jackie Master, Linda Ungerleider, and
Tony DeLano. Rich Haig (from CT DMV) and his wife and Tony DeLano’s sixteen
friends/family members rounded out the group.
We express our gratitude to Tony. Without his group this dinner would not have been
possible because we would have been below the minimum number of people required by
the restaurant.
The kitchen prepared much more food than our group could eat so the leftovers were
transported in Hague’s Corvette to share with the residents of the St. Vincent DePaul
Homeless Shelter in Waterbury.
Comment by Roy Master: Thank you to Sandy and Jack for the work they put into
organizing this exceptional dinner. The food, the personable wait staff, and the
presentation were fantastic!

It was a special day when Lime Rock Park held its very first races. More than

WATKINS GLEN 2017 – by Rhonda Forristall
Club Corvette has secured 10 rooms at the Hampton Inn in Horseheads, NY, for Thursday, June
29, to Monday, July 3, 2017. The 2017 version of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, headlined
by the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge
Continental Tire 150, will return to the June 29 to July 2 weekend to once again accommodate
teams returning from the 24 Hours of Le Mans event in France. The teams have continued to
dominate the field and we expect another good result in 2017. GM hosts the Corvette Corral
with a large tent placed at the first turn with cold drinks on Saturday and Sunday and meals on
Sunday. Goodie bags include a quart of Mobile One.
This is a great weekend with plenty to do: “Walk the Glen” is a mile-and-a-half walk
through the Glen and waterfalls, and you can visit numerous other waterfalls, drive the
original track, enjoy a scenic dinner on the lake, and participate in too many more activities to
list. So mark your calendars and call Mike or Renee Dansereau for information on how to
reserve your room.

CARLISLE, PA – AUGUST 24-27 – A message from Dennis Krajewski
I know that Carlisle is six months away ( August 24th-27th ), but it is now
time to start planning if you always wanted to go to this incredible all-
Corvette event. Club Corvette of Ct. has reserved 10 rooms for Club
members at the Days Inn, Carlisle South. For those who have been to
Corvettes of Carlisle, you know how hard it is to acquire rooms for that
weekend. If you always wanted to go but were unable to either get time
or get a room before, now is your chance to reserve a great room five
minutes from gate three of the show grounds. What is nice about this
motel is that a number of our members stay here each year. There is a
small cocktail lounge on the second floor of the motel where many of the
members meet for wine, beer and great conversation. If you are
interested, please get in touch with me, Dennis Krajewski, and I will give
you the specifics on how to secure your room for Corvettes of Carlisle this
year.

GM Corvette Plant News
At the Michelin NCM Bash, GM Corvette Plant Manager Kai Spande
made the official announcement that public tours of the plant would not
be available for approximately 18 months. The last day for public tours
is currently Friday, June 16, 2017. Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter further elaborated on the lack of availability, citing the time needed to tie the new paint shop into the assembly line, and eventually design a new tour route.
While Buyers' Tours and Engine Build options are not available for the 2018 model year Corvettes, R8C Museum Delivery is still available, sans the plant tour portion of the package which can be fulfilled once the tours reopen. Kai and Tadge also announced that the plant will be shut down August-October. For those wanting 2018 Corvettes by the end of July the deadline to order is June 12. Corvettes ordered after that date will be built once the plant re-opens in November.
2018 Corvette Specs Announced
General Motors has released the 2018 Corvette specs, product information and ordering guide - and while neither a rumored ZR1 or "Zora" mid-engine were listed in the materials, we were excited to see the 'Carbon 65' special edition, marking the marque's milestone anniversary.
The new Ceramic Matrix Gray offered on the Carbon 65 replaces Sterling Blue for exterior colors for 2018. While the new options do not present drastic changes to the car, they are carefully cultivated offerings which allow buyers to truly build their dream car.

Ed Welburn to be Inducted in Automotive Hall of Fame
Ed Welburn, former Vice President of General Motors Global Design, has been named a 2017 inductee into the Automotive Hall of Fame. When appointed to his position in 2003, he became the first African American to lead a major automotive design house and only the sixth person to lead GM Design in the company’s 100-year history. He managed 1600 creative designers and sculptors who staff GM’s 11 Global Design studios. Welburn retired last July after 44 years with General Motors.
The Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, MI has been celebrating outstanding automotive achievement since
1939. There are four distinct awards. Induction into the Automotive Hall of Fame is reserved for those who have
made a significant impact on the automobile. This is the single greatest honor in the automotive business. Inductee
contributions are chronicled among the great men and women who have had a positive influence on the industry. What's in the Works for Members As you already know, NCM members now receive GM Supplier discounts on the purchase of new GM vehicles and if you haven't taken
advantage, you still have plenty of time as this program is active through December 31, 2017. Simply contact Stephanie
[email protected] or Becky [email protected] to obtain your authorization code.
In addition to this great benefit, we are working on a few other perks for members and although we aren't able to release all the details
and promote just yet, we want to give you a heads up so you will be on the lookout over the next month or two. Carfax - we have signed an agreement with Carfax to offer NCM members a discount on reports as well as introduce some new
features they have available.
Member Section - Our IT team has been hard at work fine tuning a new member's only section of our website. This area will allow
you to view your personal information, donations, registrations, member-specific information and links and you will even be able to reprint your membership card if needed and see when your renewal date is (if applicable) and when you joined.
Don't forget you also receive discounts on hotels and car rentals through www.alumnibenefits.org/corvette. These include: Car Rentals
- Alamo, Budget, National, Avis and Hertz. Hotels - Hotel Bargin, Wyndham, and Choice properties.
Lifetime members also receive additional benefits of reciprocal programs including the North American Reciprical Museums (NARM) www.narmassociation.org and also the Automotive Museum Group (AMG)
Trial membership program
Beginning with the 2018 model year Corvettes, the Trial membership program will move from a membership to a subscription to America's Sports Car magazine for one year.
The card that is included with each new Corvette will look very similar, but please be sure to share with your clubs that the program has
changed.
