JD Southwell knows of a 1969 T-Top 427
4-speed for sale. Anyone interested contact JD. Tom Ury is now the expert on
replacing an inner fender piece on a C-7. Seems their C-7 tangled with a pylon last season, pointing out, yet again, that Vicki was driving. Anyone suffering the same fate, contact Tom for expert advice. Mike Sabo knows of a set of new, original,
unused knock-off wheels for a 1964. Probably costly, but if you are in the market, contact Mike Sabo. Centerfold – National Corvette Museum-
Bob Balink shared pictures of his Corvette selected to be the centerfold in the NCM magazine. Congratulations to Bob for being selected. See picture in this newsletter.
Museum Update – Barrett Benson shared
information about upcoming events and raffles at the National Corvette Museum. Purchasing a new Corvette and taking the Buyers Tour will get you a birth certificate for your car. Upcoming Events – Lorren Loewen
referred members to his monthly email and report of Rocky Mountain Region sanctioned events and CSCC activities already scheduled. The Rocky Mt Region has submitted a bid for the 2019 NCCC Convention. Events will be centered in and-around the Denver area. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 pm.
Dear Colorado Springs Corvette Club, Thank you for your generous $891 donation to National Mill Dog Rescue on 1/11/2017. Your gift is being put to good use for the rescue and care of the dogs we save; and for the programs that help us educate the public about the commercial dog breeding industry. Lifetimes of misery are transformed in an instant when we lift these courageous survivors out of their cages and into our arms for a trip home to freedom. Despite the suffering they have endured, we find they are amazingly resilient. Within a short time, they learn to trust our loving touch. After that, it isn’t before they are ready to become treasured family pets. Since 2007, donations like yours have helped us save thousands of mill dogs and accomplish much, much more. Thank you again for supporting our mission. Our gratitude is truly immeasurable. Sincerely, Theresa Strader Founder/Executive Director [email protected]

St. Patrick’s Day Parade By Chris Capshaw On a blustery March 11
th, our club was well represented in the Colorado Springs annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Eight Corvettes
and their Irish- for- the- day occupants were all shined up and adorned in green Irish regalia. While our wannabe Leprechauns awaited the signal to proceed, they were busy speaking enthusiastically to the innumerable people passing by who stopped, and admired America’s only true sports car. The signal eventually came so we all formed up, and proceeded down the parade route where we were greeted by thousands of adoring fans. All along the route the smiles, screams, and applause increased as the RPMs approached the red line. A big thank you goes out to Carol Reel, and Rick Mendoza for doing the heavy lifting for this event, as well as: Chris and Jonathan Capshaw, Doug Cox, Tanya Hrabal, Thomas Lynch, Phillip Moore, Patty Strauch, and James and Kelly Zajicek.

Get to Know Your Fellow Members
An Interview with Jerry & Denise Phillips By Diana Dittman
How long have you been a CSCC member? Since October 1984
What Corvette(s) do you currently own?
A 2004 Commemorative LeMans Edition Convertible; In the past a 1975 coupe, a 1974 coupe, a 1972 convertible, a 1986 Convertible.
Marital Status? Been married for 34
years How did you meet? They met each other
while working at the Broadmoor Hotel. Jerry kept flirting with Denise while she worked in purchasing. At the time, Jerry was going through a divorce and Denise thought he was still married so she thought he was a “slime-ball”. When he would come around, she would go hide somewhere. They finally went out for drinks and Jerry convinced Denise to date him. Their first date was going to the Doobie Brothers concert at Red Rocks. Where are you from? Jerry was born in
Indiana and lived there for 16 years in a town between Hammond and Gary. Then his family moved to Colorado since his brother was stationed at Fort Carson. Denise’s Dad was in the Air Force so they moved around. She was born in Arkansas, lived in Alaska, North Dakota, Germany, back to North Dakota, then to Florida. Her Dad wanted to retire there. She went to high school in Florida. Then her family moved to Colorado.
Employment? Jerry recently retired (in
February) as the mechanical manager from the Broadmoor Hotel. He was there for 40 years. He was in the Navy for 4 years right out of high school. He then started college after that while also working at the Broadmoor. Denise also has a career at the Broadmoor Hotel. She has been there for 37 years. She started as an assistant purchasing agent. Then she was an administrative assistant in the engineering department for 20 years. She is currently an executive administrative assistant. Kids? They have 2 daughters and 2 grandchildren. Jennifer is 32, and married to a soldier. They have 2 kids, a boy, Conner who is 7 and a girl Aubrey who is 3. Jennifer is very involved in PTA and Conners school. They live in Georgia. Amy, their other daughter is 29 and is a mental health technician at Cedar Springs in Colorado Springs. She works with kids between the ages of 7-17. (Bless her heart!!) Pets? They have a dog named Tucker
who is 4 years old and a Havenese mix. Favorite club activity? The car rally’s
and eating out!! Hobbies? Denise enjoys needlework and
reading. Jerry’s hobbies include the Corvette and computers. Now that he is retired, he says he will get more hobbies since he will have more time! What is the best vacation you ever took? Several trips come to mind. Right
before they were married, they took a road trip to San Diego in the 1975 Corvette. They stopped in Pagosa Springs to see Jerry’s Grandparents and right outside of Pagosa the Corvette broke down so he had to call his Grandfather to help him come and fix it on the side of the road. Then Jerry was determined to drive all the way to San Diego in one shot. They made it to about 20 miles outside of San Diego
when he just couldn’t make it anymore and had to stop and rest. They also enjoyed a vacation to Cancun with their daughters. Another trip was to Italy in 2014 with members of their family including daughter Amy, Denise’s Mom, her 2 brothers, sister in law and her parents. They are also looking forward to an island beach vacation to St. Lucia in April of this year. What is your dream corvette? Jerry’s is a
1971 LT1 convertible Brands Hatch green with saddle interior. Denise’s is a 1963 split window in blue or black (something that goes with her hair she says). How did your love of Corvettes come about? Jerry has loved Corvettes since
when he was a kid. He painted his Stingray bike a Corvette blue. Denise said she married into it. Anything else you would like to add?
They absolutely love the club and the people. They have met some of their best friends from the club. Thanks for the interview Jerry and Denise.

Auto-crossing
What You Need To Know It’s the start of another season of Corvette activities - starting Sunday April 23 with our CSCC sponsored Cone Zone Autocross School in the morning and two NCCC sanctioned Autocrosses in the afternoon. Then followed by the 25
th Annual Fun in the Sun
Concours Car Show Saturday May 13.
The autocross school offers the only training class for beginners this year, so if you’re thinking of trying auto crossing, or just want to experience the dynamics of your car, this is it. Information from the September 2016 newsletter: “The club has several helmets for use on race day or one can be purchased for as low as $130. It must be SNELL DOT approved and be built less than 10 years ago. You also must wear closed-toe shoes. If you’re still reading, it’s now time to prep for your first autocross. You must have your car inspected “Tech’d” prior to the drivers meeting. You will need to be there early to walk and memorize the course, get registered, get tech’d, and prep your car. Tech inspection is easy. You need brakes, tires, tight lug nuts, and a tight battery to name a few things. You can learn the rest after your head stops spinning. Car prep, basically, is cleaning out everything that can dislodge. For cars prior to the C5, I recommend you add 4 or 5 pounds of air to your tires to help keep them on the wheels.” For more information, please refer to my tech article published in the club’s newsletter from September 2016.
At the autocross, if you don’t have a race number, you will be assigned one (3 digits). If you’d like a two digit number that is good for the entire race year, and you’re an NCCC member, go to http://www.rmrnccc.org, then click on Competition; Race Number List. Once there, choose any number that is NOT assigned between 16 and 99. The first 15 numbers are for last year’s points winners. After picking your number, go back one screen and select “Race Number Request” - just log in with your NCCC (RM-183-…) number and zip code, and finish the request form. If you wish to purchase removable numbers for the races visit www.soloperformance.com. Numbers must be contrasting in color and at least 6" high, both sides of the car. We usually set up the course the previous afternoon, in case you want to come down and get involved. At the race, you can travel at any speed you want around the course, from slow to really fast—your choice. My preference is to go fast enough that my heart beats out of my chest at the end of it, but that’s just me. If you would like to write an article, or have suggestions for one, contact me at [email protected]. Tom Ury

SINKHOLE 3RD ANNIVERSARY
Can you believe it? Three years+ ago, February 12th
, a
sinkhole opened inside the NCM’s Skydome in the early morning hours and swallowed 8 Corvettes. Fortunately, as staff and visitors weren’t present, the Corvettes and building were the only things damaged. The National Corvette Museum is commemorating the Anniversary by restoring the 1962 black roadster on-site. On February 9
th the ’62 was moved from the Skydome to the
garage bay, where restoration will bring it back to “better than ever.” Museum visitors will be able to view real-time restoration by looking through the garage bay windows, watching Dan Decker do his magic. If you want to see the work from home, tune in Facebook and YouTube where you can choose from a number of videos and enjoy updates and progress reports.
NOTE During your visit to the Museum, you can see the newest exhibit,
4 Rare Colored Corvettes featuring stock shades you don’t see every day:
■ 1982 Silver Green (1 of 123)
■ 1996 Dark Purple Metallic (1 of 320)
■ 1960 Cascade Green (1 of 140)
■ 1969 Monaco Orange
RAFFLE At the April meeting I’ll have $10 tickets for a 2017 Torch Red Stingray convertible, to be drawn April 29
th.
Concours Car Show
What You Need To Know
The Fun-In-The-Sun Concours Car Show is the only show
that is judged for cleanliness in the four- state Region, so here is your impetus to get your car really clean for the upcoming season. The show is for Corvettes only and Corvette people and families, and is not advertised to anyone else. For more information, refer to the clubs newsletter from May 2016 which specifically addresses how this show works and what is judged. Odd Household Tip: Need to reach way-in to light the pilot
light on your hot water heater or gas fireplace and don’t have your blowtorch handy? You can light the end of a piece of raw spaghetti and reach way in with it. Don’t get it wet or it won’t be worth a wet noodle. When done with the pasta, stick a few through 1” long hot dog and boil them for 10 minutes—the grandkids will love it, especially served on last month’s pizza pan.
