A Message from the President

Bob Brody

Message from the President, Bob Brody

Dear fellow CCR Members,

With CCR’s first event in the books, we are on our way to lots of Fellowship,

Fun and Food, in our Corvettes! Or, we may be driving our OTC’s if we get more weather like

the snow we had in early January. Let’s hope for more sun and warmth. Speaking of sun and

warmth, I missed Graham and Margaret’s Bowling Event due to a family need that required me

to spend a week in Daytona Beach. It was really tough duty walking the beach with tempera-

tures in the high 70’s while the sun shone brightly and waves lapped on my bare feet, but I’m

tough enough to handle that, and I survived it somehow.

Back in VA now, and ready to participate in upcoming CCR Events. The next Members’ Meet-

ing is at the Grace Lutheran Church in Chester and our After Meeting Social will be held at a

local restaurant. We could use some help with After Meeting Socials; please let me know if you

are willing to have one at your home or if you have an idea for a restaurant.

Continuing our traditions of Fellowship, Fun and Food, Gayle, Peggy, Janie and Val have

planned another Valentine’s Brunch on February 12, with bottomless Bubbly and wonderful

food at Meadowbrook Country Club. This Event is always a great time, presenting an opportu-

nity to get out in your Sunday attire to socialize and enjoy a terrific meal.

The annual Bunny Run is scheduled for April 8, so start collecting your bundle of Bunnies to

donate to the Children’s Hospital.

We will make another trip across the Potomac to Captain Billy’s, and we will cruise to the Mus-

cle Car Show in New Kent.

Our Annual All Corvette Roundup is scheduled for June 3. Please let me know your ideas to

make it better.

I have also heard some terrific new Event ideas. Please let us know what you would like to do,

and allow us to help you move your idea forward and make it a wonderful new CCR Event. We

have many veteran OD’s who will happily provide help and guidance.

Events are the lifeblood of CCR, so please join in. The best way to get to know other members

and make new friends is to participate. I hope to see all the regulars AND many new faces at all

the upcoming CCR activities.

Best wishes, warm regards, and remember to Save The Wave!

Life is a highway, and I wanna drive it in my Corvette with my best friend Doris as co-pilot.

Your CCR friend,

Event Re-Cap CCR BOWLING EVENT

January 21, 2017 OD: Graham & Margaret Wilson

We started out on a rainy afternoon for our bowling event at Bowl America Eastern Bowl on Williamburg Road in East-

ern Henrico. Our members greeted one another, grabbed their bowling shoes, balls and let the games begin! There was

a grand total of 6 lanes with 22 bowlers and a cheering squad consisting of Susie, John, Butch, Joyce and SueAnn, Mike

and Connie! Thank you guys for coming out to cheer on your members and to show your support to this event.

After bowling for 2 hours our members had “bowled” up a hearty appetite and we all got in our cars and headed to

Cracker Barrel for an early dinner. Once there we were seated and orders were taken and the stories and laughter con-

tinued throughout the meal! Graham and I would like to thank all of the members who came out to make this bowling

event a success and fun was had by all who attended!

This is the 4th year of the bowling event and Graham and I were asked to add the bowling event to twice a year! We defi-

nitely will take this suggestion into consideration depending upon attendance and interest from our members.

Upcoming Event CCR 21st Annual Bunny Run

Saturday, April 8, 2017

ODs – Cecile & Ed Custer

On Saturday April 8, 2017, CCR members will be welcoming spring with our 21st Annual Bunny Run delivering plush bunnies to

the patients at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond. This is our version of a teddy bear run, only better!! Again this year, CCR is

inviting ALL Corvette owners to join us for this fun and extremely rewarding event. The only requirements for participation are that

you drive a Corvette and bring 1 or more plush snuggly bunnies. All bunnies need to be new and in individual plastic bags. (Grocery

produce bags work well and most stores will let you have them for free.)

Since this is our 21st year for this much anticipated event I would like to break our past record of 42 Corvettes set several years ago.

This year let’s aim for at least 50 Vettes to roar into Children’s Hospital with our furry cargo. To achieve this goals please invite

every Corvette owner you know and even those you don’t know but see cruising around town. It is a great event to let fellow Vette

owners meet CCR members and learn about our amazing Corvette Club with an enormous heart.

We will meet at 12:15PM at Smith Turf & Irrigation located at 2201 Dabney Road (23230). (Behind the Sears Appliance Outlet) We

will depart for Children’s’ Hospital at 12:45PM. We will enter through the Hospital’s Brook Road entrance and park along the side

of the building until all of the children are in place and ready for our arrival. Once everyone is ready, our parade of spectacular

Vettes will proceed and unload the bunnies. After unloading we will visit with the children, parents & staff and enjoy refreshments.

This is a rain or shine event although it doesn’t dare rain until we have finished unloading our special cargo. Participants are invited

to accompany us to Texas Roadhouse on Rt.1 near Virginia Center Commons for lunch around 2-2:30PM.

Wondering where the all of the bunnies come from? Many seasoned CCR bunny wranglers already stocked up during last year’s

after Easter sales. Others of us will be hitting up everyone we know to donate bunnies in addition to the ones we buy. Flyers that

you can post or distribute in order to collect bunnies from friends, family and co-workers will be available at the February meeting

and on the CCR website. If you are unable to attend you may bring bunnies to the February or March meetings. Don’t want to go

bunny shopping, you can make a monetary donation and Cecile will go shopping for you.

Contact CCR’s chief bunny wrangler, Cecile Custer via e-mail at: [email protected] or phone at (804) 338-8362 with

questions or to make other arrangements to contribute bunnies. Can’t make the Bunny Run or Bunny Collection event? You can

bring your bunnies to the February and March meetings.

I have set up a Facebook page for our car “Bunny Vette” to share photos and posts about past Bunny Runs. Not already a friend of

“Bunny Vette, Cecille Custer or Ed Custer) please send a friend request to one of us then share our Bunny Run posts so we can get

the word out about this great event

Hop to it and start gathering new stuffed bunnies from every one you know, don your bunny ears and

join us on April 8th so we can make this our biggest & best Bunny Run yet.!

Upcoming Event 17th Annual Crab Cruise

Saturday, April 15; 2017 ODs: Lori & Dave Dolan

Ok, winter is still here and we'll probably get more snow, but we want to get this event on your minds and calen-dars now so you'll be ready for us in April! By then, win-ter doldrums will be a thing of the past. Spring will have spung and azaleas and dogwoods will be dotting the scenery as we make our way to Capt. Billy's in Popes Creek Maryland. Normally this event happens the Saturday AFTER tax day but that would mean it would conflict with the All-American Muscle Car Celebration at the New Kent Winery. So, this year's event is set for tax day--April 15.

DETAILS: We’ll meet at 1:15 pm behind the Burger King at 9178 Chamberlayne Road (Route

301) & Atlee Station Road. We’ll take roll, sell some 50/50 tickets, have a brief drivers’ meeting and depart at 1:30. Since this is a rain or shine event, if the weather is bad or you’re bringing guests, feel free to drive your OTC (Other Than Corvette). OTCs are fine…they just have to be at the back of our caravan!! Don’t forget your nametags and, if you’ve got a Club Radio, bring it. This is a really easy caravan—no white knuckle driving here—and whether you’re looking out your side windows at the gorgeous spring scenery or looking at the row of Vettes in front of and behind you—your view will be fabulous! The drive from Richmond will take about an hour and 15 minutes, so I think our bladders will hold. Like last year, we will drive straight through without stopping at Hornes. On our way home I'm stopping at Hornes for some ice cream and to check out their mer-chandise. I will make a reservation for 60, but in case our group is bigger, I’ll need to let them know so that they can have enough wait staff for us. So, if you’re free and interested, please sign up for this event or call us (H - 346-5266 or C – 640-9338). Hope you'll be joining us!

The legendary Yenko muscle car is back as an 800 horsepower Corvette

Viknesh Vijayenthiran, Motor Authority, Jan 17, 2017

Back in the 1960s, the muscle cars from Yenko Chevrolet of

Canonsburg, Pennsylvania were highly regarded for their per-

formance modifications. And today the cars are among the most

collectible of that era.

But there are also new “Yenkos” in production, though today the

name is used under license from owner General Marketing Capi-

tal Incorporated. And building the cars is Specialty Vehicle Engi-

neering, whose latest product is the Yenko 2017 Chevrolet Cor-

vette Grand Sport.

The special edition model can be ordered straight from the Chevy dealership and will be built in a limited run

of just 50 cars. The package includes numerous mods, the key one being a supercharger that helps lift output

from the LT1 V-8 to a Corvette Z06-topping 800 horsepower. Peak torque, meanwhile, is up around 750

pound-feet.

But SVE didn’t just bolt on a few mods and call it a day. The package took six months to develop and includes

a stroker kit that increases displacement from 6.2 to 6.8 liters. The team also replaced the crankshaft, H-beam

rods and pistons with stronger pieces and swapped in the fuel system and injectors from the Z06.

SVE also added a few visual tweaks, some of them, like the Yenko logos and striping harking back to the

original Yenkos. The stock exhaust tips are also replaced with SVE’s own design.

For all this you’ll need to pay $46,000 on top of the $66,445 starting price of the Corvette Grand Sport.

The 2017 Yenko Corvette Grand Sport is on display at this week’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Ari-

zona.

For a better look at the car, head to Corvette Fo-

rum which has a full gallery and more details.

By Barry Roper, NCM Ambassador/Lifetime Member

February's upon us and we're recording steady if tentative progress toward Spring

and improving weather for Corvettes and road trips. With that in mind, a preview of fifteen events planned by

the National Corvette Museum's staff for 2017 await our attention and possible participation. Ten of these

functions will occur on the road as part of the ongoing Museum in Motion's continuing inertia. However, by

the time this goes to press, the first Museum in Motion/Off-Site Event will be history for those Corvette fans

attending the MIM: Rolex 24 in Daytona and cheering on the Corvette Racing Team. That event has been sold

out for some time so consider it early next year if interested.

Not to worry though, that leaves the remaining five + nine adventures still to be had. The On-Site events at the

Museum include the NCM Bash (April 27-29), the annual C4 Gathering (May 18-20), the NCM Le Mans

Viewing Party (June 17-18), the 23rd NCM Anniversary Celebration (August 31-September 2), and Vets 'n

Vettes (November 2-4). Each of these On-Site functions are well described on corvettemuseum.com so the

information won't be detailed here but particularly the Michelin NCM Bash is a blast!!!

It's approximately 660 miles from Richmond to the NCM in Bowling Green, KY, and that constitutes a signifi-

cant road trip for many. Knowing though that that may represent only a warm up excursion for others, the re-

maining nine MIM/Off-Site Events will be identified by geography and date to hopefully generate interest

among CCR members.

+ MIM 'Tail of the Dragon' Run/Biltmore Hotel (April 30-May 3) Asheville, NC

+ MIM: NASCAR in the South (May 8-13) Charlotte, NC

+ MIM: 24 Hours of Le Mans (June 9-20) Paris, Normandy, & Lemans, France

+ MIM: Northwest Passage (July 26-30) Oregon/Washington

+ MIM: 'California Dreamin' (August 13-17) Kingman, AZ, via Rt 66, Santa Barbara

+ MIM: 'Diamond in the Rough' (August 27-29) Roanoke, WV

+ MIM: National Parks Tour (September 17-23) Arizona/Utah

+ MIM: 2017 Monterey Corvette Racing Banquet (September 23) Monterey, CA

+ MIM: Kentucky 1-Lap Tours (October - 3 back-to-back events) Bowling Green, KY

Should you be interested in one or more of these trips, let it be known at a meeting and maybe other CCR

members will fire up their Corvettes and join you on the adventure!

Corvette Racing Finishes 4th, 9th In GTLM at Daytona By Sam McEachern, Jan 29, 2017

Corvette Racing’s No. 3 and No. 4 Corvette C7.R have finished a respective 4th and 9th in GTLM in the 55th running of the 24

Hours of Daytona.

The No. 3 Corvette C7.R, driven by Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and part-time Corvette endurance driver Mike Rockenfeller,

finished the race 1.514 seconds behind the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTB, which was third in GTLM.

The No. 66 Ford GT of Sébastien Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Müller took the GTLM win, with the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR of

Patrick Pilet, Frederic Makowiecki and Dirk Werner crossing the finish line 2.988 seconds behind the leader to claim third.

The No. 66 GT controlled GTLM for the majority of the race. The No. 62 Ferrari, No. 911 Porsche and No. 3 Corvette began to put

the pressure on the Ford late in the race, however a strong final stint by German Ford driver Dirk Muller saw the Ford pass both the

Ferrari and the Corvette to move into the lead.

The No. 911 Porsche was punted by the no. 62 Ferrari in the closing stages of the race, but Makowiecki managed to hold onto the

second place spot and give the all-new mid-engine 911 RSR a podium in its first-ever outing.

A tweet sent out by Corvette Racing post-race indicates the team is disappointed with the result at Daytona after its 1-2 finish last

year, but is looking ahead to the 12 Hours of Sebring in late March.

Tech Tips

We, as Corvette owners (or soon to be owners) take pride in maintaining the vehicle in the

best shape possible. Mediocre or OK is not acceptable. So here are 6 small things I learned

that keep the Vette happy.

1) When you store your Corvette, or if it is not driven for more than 10-15 days, the battery

should be unplugged. Even if the car is not running it still drains battery power for electrical

operation on things like remote start. You can also keep the battery connected and charge it

once every two to four weeks.

2) Beware of the writing on your tires. The air pressure on the side of a tire is not the correct

air pressure for your Corvette, but the maximum for the tire. Follow Chevrolet’s recommen-

dations for tire pressure.

3) Wheel bearings do get old and/or loose. Check them ever so often by grabbing the wheel

and pushing it back and forth. If the wheel is noticeably moving in out and in of the hub, it is

time to take a look at those bearings.

4) The vehicle cannot be lifted any which way. There is a specific procedure for lifting a

Corvette for oil or tire changes. There are specific points where the car jack pressure can be

applied. (Missing these points can cause cracks in the fiberglass body work or broken win-

dows).

To lift it you will need either a low profile lift or low ramps. If you are taking the ride to a

shop make sure they at least have the low ramps to aid the car’s getting on to the high ramp

without damaging the body.

5) If you own a C4, specifically, you will want to crack open the doors, windows and trunk, if

any work is being done under the vehicle. That will allow some room for twisting and will

prevent window and body damage. To be honest it wouldn’t hurt do the same on other mod-

els as well.

6) Although I am a forum fan, a post cannot replace professional aid. If you do decide to do a

lot of work yourself, I strongly recommend you get a repair manual. Otherwise you risk

damaging the vehicle.

There you go!
