The competitions in 2017 Homecoming Week will be divided into
the following university Divisions:
EIU homecoming 2017
Greek-Lettered Organizations Division This division includes all social-service based Greek-lettered organizations that include but are not limited to the PanHellenic, National Pan-Hellenic and Inter-fraternity Councils recognized fraternities and sororities. In addition “local” or “non-affiliated” Greek-lettered organizations that would include Alpha Psi Lambda will compete in the RSO Division. Two or more Greek organizations competing in the Greek Division shall compete as ONE entry.
Residence Hall DivisionThis division includes all of the on-campus residence halls, which include – Pemberton, TRIAD, LSD, Thomas, Andrews, Lawson and Taylor Halls.
Registered Student Organizations Division (RSO’s)This division includes all campus Registered Student Organizations, which are not affiliated with PanHellenic, National Pan-Hellenic or Inter-fraternity Greek-lettered organizations or Residence Halls.
Faculty/Staff DivisionThis division includes all of the EIU Administrators, faculty, staff and EIU offices/departments.
Community DivisionThis division includes all community-based businesses, civic groups, organizations and residents in the Charleston or surrounding areas.
There will not be competition between divisions. Competition will remain within each division (for example: Lawson Hall will only compete against other residence halls and not with Greeks or RSO’s). The only exception(s) may include HC Coronation and HC Pep Rally/Yell Like Hell.
Overall Winners for each division will be selected when all Homecoming Week activities have been completed. Winners will be determined by the highest overall point totals awarded among the competing Faculty & Staff, Greeks, RSO’s and Residence Halls within each division.
First and Second place awards will be given out to the Overall Divisional winners. Also first and second place awards will be awarded to Overall Event winners in each competition.
An overall Homecoming Spirit Award will be awarded in each division to the EIU Department, Greek/RSO/Hall that demonstrates excellence in EIU school spirit and sportsmanship throughout their preparation and participation in EIU Homecoming Week.
Overall Homecoming Point Totals will be awarded throughout the week of EIU Homecoming. Overall Homecoming Point Totals in the RSO/Greek/Residence Hall/Faculty & Staff Divisions will be available on-line at the 2017 EIU Homecoming Website beginning Monday, October 2nd. Each year the "Paint the Town BLUE" campaign is held throughout the city of Charleston in support of EIU Homecoming Week. Sponsored in conjunction with the City of Charleston's tourism department, "Paint the Town BLUE!" is an spirit campaign for local Charleston businesses, civic groups and agencies to showcase community support during the 2017 EIU Homecoming Week -October 16-21. The Charleston community is invited to showcase its Panther Pride throughout the weeklong EIU Homecoming Week.
E.I.United Day of Gi v ing – Hurr icane Relief Effort
E.I.UNITED a campus-wide campaign FUNDrive has established October 18th - “GO BLUE Jeans” as a Day of Giving with a goal of raising funds for hurricane relief. Whether you like Levi’s jeans, Boot cut jeans, Mom Jeans, or Skinny Jeans, the EIU community is invited to donate to “GO BLUE Jeans for Charity” and receive a donation sticker to wear blue jeans to work and class in support of hurricane victims. Here’s EIU’s chance to wear jeans with a purpose! Make a $5 donation and receive a HC Donation sticker to be proudly displayed and worn during EIU Homecoming Week - Oct. 18th to show EIU support for Hurricane Relief victims. All proceeds to be donated to a hurricane relief fund.
Billy the Panther Mascot will be spreading EIU Pride during Homecoming Week at area Charleston/Mattoon grade and middle schools and will feature coloring contests, prizes and giveaways!
The Panther PAW Patrol will be prowling the EIU campus in golf carts during Homecoming Week 2017 looking for members of the EIU community wearing BLUE! Some lucky winner(s) will receive “Blue Swag Bag” prizes and gift cards giveaways for showing their school pride and spirit!
HC “Welcome to the Jungle” Famil y Fun Night
“Welcome to the Jungle” Family Fun night is an entertaining night of Family Fun for EIU and Charleston families. This popular kid’s night features activities that include BINGO, refreshments, carnival games, arts/crafts stations and prizes for all ages!
One of many HC events taking place during EIU Homecoming Week. EIU campus departments, office, halls and cafeterias will have the opportunity to show-off their EIU Pride in this spirited competition. There are multiple categories for competition including: Door Decorating, Office/Dept. Decorating, Residence Hall Decorating and Cafeteria/ Foodcourt Decorating for prizes and bragging rights!
HC “Rumble in the Jungle” Kick-off on the Quad
One of the highlights of EIU Homecoming Week is the official kick-off celebration of EIU pride and spirit! The EIU community is invited to officially kick-off EIU Homecoming Week featuring – music, food, and fun games and Blue Swag Giveaways on the quad.

“Together We ROAR!”Pep Rall y/Yell Like Hell
The Homecoming Pep Rally & Yell Like Hell event is a campus-wide spirit rally designed to promote Panther spirit and pride through a series of synchronized chants and cheers in preparation for the EIU football game. The EIU Football Team/Coaches, Cheer teams, Panther Marching Band and Billy the Panther will be on hand. The event will feature pep rally, spirit games competitions, and “Blue Swag” Giveaways and prizes throughout the night!
HC PACK theStands BLUE!
Time to “Pack the Stands BLUE” in support of the EIU Football Panthers at O’ Brien Field. EIU Fans will receive a chance to win FREE “Blue Swag” that includes – HC Spirit Tshirts, foam fingers, rally towels, beads and more!
EIU Football Centennial - 100th Homecoming Football Game
EIU Football Centennial - 100th Homecoming Football GameIt’s time to “Pack the Stands!” This year, EIU will kick off EIU Homecoming celebrating the centennial anniversary of the EIU Football Program. The EIU Panthers will host Jacksonville State to commemorate the occasion. EIU has had a homecoming football game every year since 1915 with the exception of homecoming football games in 1918 and 1943 due to World War I and World War II. To commemorate this memorable moment, EIU will pay special tribute to former EIU Football and Cheerleader members. Various special events include – O’Brien Field Tours, Social Reception, HC Parade, Re-union Tailgate and more. For more information go to - http://www.eiupanthers.com/
HC “ROARlty” Coronation Ceremony
One of the highlights of EIU Homecoming Week is the crowning of the EIU HC Court Royalty - Homecoming King, Queen, Prince and Princess, Faculty King, Queen and Lil’ Prince and Princess are crowned to reign over the EIU Homecoming Week celebration. Selection of the Homecoming Royalty includes campus and community – nominations process, interview process and voting.
HC ParadeThe EIU Homecoming Parade is an annual tradition that consists of over 100 campus/community parade entries featuring a HC Parade Grand Marshall, Distinguished EIU Alumni, decorated cars, bands, banners and floats.
HC “You Do BLUE!” It’s time to “Think Blue, Wear Blue” at EIU! – To promote and showcase school spirit throughout the university Friday’s will be designated school spirit day throughout the year to promote EIU Pride! Members of the EIU community are encouraged to show their Panther Pride by wearing “EIU Royal Blue every Friday.
HC Rotary Pancake Breakfast
The Rotary Pancake Breakfast consists of an all-you-can-eat sunrise breakfast for the EIU and Charleston communities prior to the start of the EIU Homecoming Race/Walk and parade events. Sponsored by the Charleston Rotary Club, proceeds from this event benefit local charities.

HC “Let’s Glo Wild!”Cosmic Bowling Night
The MLK Jr. Union will be the place to be for “Glow-in-the-Dark” Bowling with a TWIST! Here’s your chance during EIU Homecoming Week to take a night of bowling to a whole new level! The event will feature a club atmosphere, with a live DJ , special effects lighting, FREE Mock-tails Bar & Appetizers, shoe rental, games discounts and special contests with prizes. A photo booth and HC “Blue Swag” Giveaways will be provided through the night! So come out and bowl the night away during EIU Homecoming Week!
HC Trash Bash Clean-up
After HC Week it is time to clean-up the campus and community! EIU student volunteers will be on the prowl for the annual campus/community clean-up at the conclusion of EIU Homecoming Week.
HC 2.5k Race/WalkThe 2.5k Race/Walk will provide participants of all ages from the EIU and Charleston communities as they race around the Charleston Square to the finish line. Sponsored by the City of Charleston Tourism, prizes and awards will be given to the top place-finishers in each division.

HC “Panther Safe” Health Table D isplay & Presentation
“Panther Safe” is a series of educational table displays and presentations throughout EIU Homecoming Week. “Panther Safe” is designed to raise awareness, promote prevention and reduce risky behaviors among EIU students during EIU Homecoming Week. HERC staff will be available to provide demonstrations and resources on campus safety, effects of drinking and safe partying.
HC “Big BLUE” JungleHealth & Wellness Fair
It’s a “Big Blue” Jungle Out There, It’s Time to Stay Healthy at EIU! This annual event coordinated by the EIU Health Service and Health Education Resource Center is a “healthy dose of Fun” designed to educate EIU students, faculty, and staff on health related topics, resources and behaviors. This Pre-Homecoming event will showcase a wide variety of Health-related booths, screenings, samples, tastings and more offered by campus/community Health Agencies and Exhibitors. In addition, EIU Health Services staff will be on-hand to administer flu shots during the event for a chance at HC “Blue Swag” prizes and giveaways.
