Second Priority: Mechanical Engineering / Information Technology

4. Project Name: Enhancement of Investment Planning associated IT systems

5. Business Objectives:

To enhance GE Multi-Area Reliability Simulation Program (MARS) to improve its productivity and data input accuracy.

To enhance Project Investment Management System (PIMS) for better coordination with Project Documentation Workflow System (PDWS).

6. Project Descriptions:

Investment planning is conducted regularly and required following IT systems to support investment decisions. GE MARS is a standalone DOS program based on MONTE CARLO

simulation approach, which is used to assess the adequacy of generation supply to satisfy customer load requirement.

A great deal of data (such as load forecast, outage plan, planting program, etc.) currently requires manual input for running the simulation. Enhancement opportunities (such as automatic rendering of input and output files, ability to cater for day/night import profiles, etc.) were identified to improve productivity.

The PDWS is an electronic platform launched in late 2015 aiming at managing the whole project approval process starting from project development to post-implementation.

The PIMS is linked up with PDWS aiming at managing both technical and financial contents of each power plant projects to support the investment decisions.

Recent review revealed that PIMS’s linkage with PDWS could be further enhanced for better coordination with the PDWS.

7. Project Deliverables:

Enhancements to GE MARS and PIMS for better support to the investment planning processes.
