Chapter 20: Immigration and Urban Life Directions: You will write a six paragraph essay on the following prompt. Please use the Internet, textbook, and books provided by the LRC to answer the prompt. Writing Prompt Your family has decided to come to the land of opportunity. The journey will take five weeks (five paragraphs). One week (one paragraph) to explain reasons for leaving the country of your choice and the preparation it will take. One week (one paragraph) to explain boat ride over to New York. One week (one paragraph) to explain the Ellis Island experience. Two weeks (two paragraphs) to explain your living conditions, your job, and what new experiences you have encountered. Finally one paragraph on after experiencing what you just went through, should America’s doors remain open to immigrants? Why or Why not? Chapter 20: During our unit of study, we will be having mini lessons on Ellis Island, Angel Island, Student Ancestery, Immigration History, and Immigration Policy. We will be using the Perfection Learning Series (primary sources), textbook (secondary sources), and Ellis and Angel Island websites. There will be formative checks along the way, and we will be checking your papers (rough drafts), and you will be reflecting on your work at the end of the unit (sharing aspects of your paper with the class and a personal reflection on your work).
